Blink vs Green Day debate again.
I enjoy both bands and don't trash any of them.

Saviors is good.
One More Time is good.

Anyone know of any other albums already released or releasing soon that will be a likely contender of the rock category of Grammys. For reference, it would need to have been released September 16th 2023 or later. Only band I can think of Sum 41, who I wouldn't expect to win or even be nominated but the fact that this is their last project/tour  before they break up may make the difference. I find a win very unlikely for them but getting nominated is definitely very possible

Probably Royal Blood. I don't know if it missed the mark, but I can definitely see Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age getting nominated for their latest albums.

Thank you. Well said, my friend. Instead of comparing them, I'm so fucking happy that we're in a timeline where we get a new blink album AND a new green day album. And they're both good!

I have full faith Saviors will debut #1 and will have better sales then FOAM. To my knowledge no other big record is out and a threat to GD having another #1 plus with all the press and push it’s a lock…For Blink look at all the co-writers they have on nearly every song on their album…production is overly clean yet muddy…Travis is married to a Kardashian…Tom leaves the band every 3 years…they are more of a novelty act…I’m saying Saviors goes #1 with 75k minimum in sales based on it being #1 on iTunes, all the press and videos.

Not only is "Saviors" number one on iTunes, it's also currently number one (in CDS & vinyl) on Amazon. I think it'll do well (for a rock record circa the 20s... which we're living in, baby!) and I think it'll sell more than 40-50k. How much more is anyone's guess but I do feel like 40-50k is lowballing it. It very well could sell around that much, there's no way of knowing for sure until a few days from now... but I'm under the impression it's doing better than that. Positive fan response, positive critical response, good marketing... the guys'll be fine.

I’m not sure where that number came from but it might just be the total # of preorders if accurate and the first week’s sales will include that plus all purchases from January 19 onwards so this number could double.

Not to repeat this tired debate again but it is puzzling that Blink sells more records and gets more streams. They've always been seen as the less serious band of the two. Wonder if Blink is thriving in the MGK era of pop-punk revival (which Travis has been part of). Green Day has always felt like a more serious band and has gone more out of that pop-punk box.

I think Green Day is just the band people have higher standards for and have a much more diverse fanbase who are looking for totally different sounds. And I don't mean that in a disrespectful way to blink but when people think of Green Day, their mind immediately goes to Dookie & American Idiot, two hugely successful albums and it's so hard for their new stuff to compete. Then there's the people who want something more like Kerplunk or Insomniac or Nimrod or 21CB or RevRad. Not only is it just so hard to compete with all these albums but it's impossible to satisfy every one of these groups.

blink has had successful albums. Enema, TOYPAJ and Untitled in particular but I don't think any of the albums have reached the status of Dookie or AI and they have less albums to compare with. While there are people who prefer the more immature sound of Enema or TOYPAJ, a lot of people prefer the more mature sound of Untitled and Neighborhoods. Their new album I think seems to kind of blend the more mature sound and immature jokey side of blink. Whether you like it or not, I think it makes sense why most of blink's fanbase would be enjoying OMT. And their most recent albums have been albums without Tom so there just isn't quite as high of a standard for blink fans to be happy. There is also just the fact that blink is currently just more relevant right now with their reunion and stuff

Theyre enjoying it for the same reason we’re enjoying Saviors. It’s better than the last few albums before. For different reasons of course.

Did anyone in 2002 think we’d still be having this conversation 20 years later?

Wow, Austria's biggest radio station played both Bobby Sox and Look Ma No Brains since Friday. Two different songs from a new Green Day album which are not the lead single! That didn't happen since at least 2012 😅

Coma City - 502,870 (+194k)
Corvette Summer - 485,013 (+190k)
Suzie Chapstick - 474,937 (+189k)
Strange Days Are Here to Stay - 447,700 (+176k)
Living in the '20s - 433,051 (+171k)
Father to a Son - 394,688 (+154k)
Saviors - 380,142 (+149k)
Fancy Sauce - 357,721 (+142k)

Bobby Sox seems to be quite a succes! And all of the songs perform better than TADIKM when it was released! Correct me if I'm wrong, but when TADIKM made it to a few charts with about 150,000 streams per day, doesn't that mean that some other songs of the album should chart too?

TADIKM's chart performance is mostly down to its radio play. The reason none of the other singles seem to have charted on the rock charts is because they're not getting airplay. I think TADIKM is still at no. 2 on at least 1 of the rock charts (behind One More Time by blink) so the other singles may be suffering for that reason

I think Bobby Sox is getting a bump because it’s featured on a bunch of Spotify new music playlists. Glad people are hearing it

Oh okay, well hopefully one of the other singles gets some airplay as well

Just read that the current Billboard 200 number 1 had about 130,000 sales last week and number 2 had about 70,000. So Saviors could reach number two next week 🤔

Dilemma needs to start to chart along with Bobby Sox. I still think this album will go #1 all the preorders and sold out copies

GD delivers an amazing album, once again.
I listened all the tracks over an over, and for me is great.
My favs as of now:

The American Dream is Killing Me, Look Ma, No Brains, 1981, Father To Son, Bobby Sox,  Strange Days Are Here To Stay, all of 'em are pure greenday songs. 😀

Not sure if this was on the US NBC broadcast, but Sky Sports in the UK have just used Look Ma in a promo for the Chiefs/Bills game tonight. Mostly instrumental, so doubt most will have realised - it's a shame, would have been a good promo for the album release

Streams should give Saviors at least 20 album sales ate least, so with vinyl, cd and cassette sales it can reach 70k

Excellent review @Robbie1039!!!!!

The American Dream is Killing Me (10/10): What a way to open the curtains to this album.  Hearing the teaser of this sent me into a tornado of excitement.  I kept thinking how the intro riff was 21st Century Breakdown-esque (I became a fan in 2009).  The guitars are big and lively and the vocals sound crisp as hell.  The drums are also huge-sounding.  I think Billie’s voice sounds the best it’s sounded, especially during the pre-chorus.

Totally!!! The opening riff is the most epic intro to a Green Day album that I've ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look Ma, No Brains! (9/10): If any song on this album reminded me of another, it would be this one.  But that’s not a bad thing because they made it a whole new thing!  I’ve played “Maria” and this one back-to-back just to compare how their sound has evolved and they have a much fuller sound these days!  What a banger that managed to get me hyped for the album.  Mike’s bass lines really stick out on this song, especially during the bridge.  Don’t call it a comeback!  This song is super fun to play on guitar, and for that, it gets a boost in my mind.  Classic Green Day, and I actually really like the lyrics and think they go really well with the instrumentals.

It's great!! I'm surprised they cut out the backing vocals we heard in the first teaser in December 2021. The "Woah, woah!!!" It would've fit the song perfectly!!!

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Bobby Sox (7/10):  I can’t believe that the comparison to Chester Bennington’s voice was actually accurate!  I can totally see the resemblance.  I think the best part of this song is the bridge!  I can see why they chose it to be a single!  The solo is very Weezer and the overall song reminded me of Fidlar, one of my favorite bands!  It makes sense since they’ve been having Fidlar’s friends/family help them make their music videos!  The lyrics came off as kind of cringe during my first listen, but I think they’re growing on me!

The first time I heard it I too was like, "OMG IT'S EXACTLY LIKE CHESTER!!!!" Chester would be so proud of this one!! RIP

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

One Eyed Bastard (9/10): The first time I heard this song from the leak, I was wondering why they would have ever decided to keep this banger off an album and immediately thought it would make a great single, so I’m happy they’ve made it one!  This melody allows Billie Joe to use the greatest traits of his voice, and I enjoy the bada bang chorus!  Yeah, the riff reminded me of Pink at first, but it is different enough to not think about it anymore.  The outro heavy power chords, reminiscent of Hitchin’ a Ride’s heavy riff-age, are orgasmic.  Yeah I said it.

The way the mods were scrambling to stop us from sharing the leak made it obvious this would be on the album!!!! Either that or maybe they added it because it leaked! LOL, either way, it was a great choice to include it!!!!!

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Dilemma (10/10): Absolutely the best choice for a single so far.  The song is honest, Billie Joe is singing the fuck out of it, the guitars are heavy, what more can I ask for.  I love me some chunky Green Day guitar riffs, and this one gives me all the chunk I could ask for.

I knew this one would be great ever since I saw the teaser!!!!!!! Love the drop D tuning!!!!

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

1981 (10/10): I was all smiles listening to this song through my headphones today.   That one part before the chorus where the bass is super audible and reminded me of bass lines in “Stuck With Me” is awesome.  Mike’s bass lines are refreshing and full of life throughout this album, but he is definitely on top of his game during this song.  The bass during the bridge is awesome.   Billie’s vocals sound very American Idiot to me in this particular song, with just the right amount of polish.  Thanks Rob Cavallo!

Proud to say I'm one of the first fans that got to hear this song when they played it live in Quebec City last summer!!!! I wasn't at the show but I watched it on a Facebook livestream!!!!

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Goodnight Adeline (9.5/10): This was an obvious standout for me after my listening party and was stuck in my head.  Just wonderful.  And Billie’s ability to hit those high notes cleanly during the chorus blew me away, especially during the first listen.  And then he goes ahead and says hold my (non-alcoholic) beer and sings even higher after the key change!  He’s still got it!  The drum rolls after the chorus are an extremely nice touch as well!  The best ballad on this album in my opinion.

OMG the key change!!!!! Reminds me of Walk Away from the Trilogy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Coma City (7.8/10): The parts of this song that stick out the most are the instrumentals!  The heavy guitar riffs in the middle followed by a breakdown that highlights Tre and Mike’s chemistry really pushes this song to a new level.  Tre’s drum fills are also kick ass.  I kind of wish Tre used more of his toms in his fills at the end because they just sound so awesome, but that’s just me being nit picky.

"Da da da da do de, de de do de you know what I mean?"

"Yeah, Green Day!!!"

Tell me if you got this reference!!!😉

Anyway, this song reminds me of Static Age!!!!

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Corvette Summer (10/10): This song was stuck in my head the most leaving my listening party.  Talk about a hook that grabs you right away and keeps you rocking until the very end of the song.  Definitely one of the most infectious melodies on the album.  Also one of the best crunchy guitar riff moments of the entire album when all of the other instruments drop out.  Its verses remind me of something Oasis would’ve done.  It’s one of several moments where they express that influence!  (Even though it’s a 10/10 for me, I must admit, I would’ve been worried for the album if they released this as a first single haha)

This is the song I heard in Billie's headphones in an Instagram video he posted around the time of the FOAM single in 2019. Glad to see it made it to an album!!!

2 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Suzie Chapstick (7/10): The ba ba dum dum part with electric guitar matching the melody is great and really stuck out to me.   It’s really nice to hear another softer Green Day song like this on the album to keep things interesting too.  Mike’s bass really shines in this song too!  Even though it’s not one of my top songs from this album, it’s a very welcome inclusion.

Those harmonies in the chorus too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Strange Days are Here to Stay (8/10): That better be blue in the intro!  The jangly, crunchy guitar licks in the chorus are so Longshot!  Specifically the song Happiness.  All those side projects have contributed beautifully to the sound of this album.  I saw someone comment on how they think Billie’s “old” deeper way of singing would fit this song better, and I kind of agree, but that doesn’t really take away from the song much at all.  I like the Gen-Z killing Baby boomer line!  I also love the guitar playing during the “fentanyl” line.  It matches beautifully.

It really is "Interesting, in the same way as a song like Letterbomb is interesting!!"

3 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Living in the 20’s (8/10): At first, the song this reminded me of was Sugar Youth for some reason.  I can see why people on here are saying it reminds them of Horseshoes and Handgrenades (one of my top Green Day songs of all-time) The Foxboro-esque solo is always welcome on a Green Day song! Aggressive Green Day songs are always great and the awesome screaming Billie does at the end is the cherry on top.  Tre’s drum fills at the end are also top-notch.

The "Ain't that a kick in the head" part definitely reminds me of the "G-L-O-R-I-A!!!" part in Horseshoes and Handgrenades!!!

3 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Father to a Son (9/10): This song should be a single for sure!  When’s the last time they had a single this soft?  People need to hear this side of Green Day more!  It has huge potential and gets the one of the biggest emotional responses from me during this trip of an album.  The horns that come in are also so sweet!  It reminds me of Brutal Love’s orchestral traits.  Tre hitting the toms, building up to the song’s outro is a great moment.  Overall this song has a wonderful build up throughout its entirety and the last chords remind me of the end of the end of “The End” on Abbey Road.  Grandiose-sounding!

I wonder if they already had a music video made for this when we saw the pic of them with those kid actors!!!!

3 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Saviors (9/10): Billie sounds awesome using the megaphone effect and and the heavy guitar chords that come in like a call-and-response with the vocal line is so satisfying.  The guitar tones for the solo are great!

WTF was that Italian reviewer thinking when they said this wasn't noteworthy?!?!?!?!?

3 hours ago, Robbie1039 said:

Fancy Sauce (10/10): Ending on an extremely high note.  This song was one of 3 that were stuck in my head after my listening party. The melody and the harmonies that happen halfway through the chorus instantly brought a huge smile to my face.  A song like this is exactly what I want from Green Day.  It’s so melancholic.  The production and melody makes me think that this would fit well on 21st Century Breakdown.  Love the guitar lick between the “we all die young some day” lines.  It’s more call-and-response between the vocals and guitar, which is something I really liked on the song “Saviors”.  The instrumental outro is perfect to end this album.  Wow what a closer!  It contains the Green Day “fancy sauce” indeed, as does this whole album.

Fell in love with the teaser featuring this song!!! The teaser version was played on acoustic guitar with a dreamy reverb but I like the electric guitar sound on this one!!!

So during Father of All, Green Day said they wanted to put out more music more often.   But then we waited four years for Saviors.  It was worth the wait, but do you think Green Day need that much time to do a great record every time?  Can they start giving us more music but with their knowledge of what most like and dislike, make them well liked?   Can we get Green Day 15 earlier than 2027 and it be hated on by most of you fools who said they turned pop or the foam flipped, yall the reason that BJ ain't been getting no sleep.  So bump yall, all yall.  If you'll don't like foam, bleep you, yall gonna mess around and turn Green Day back into the old Green Day.   Wait...I burst into spontaneous Dr Dre for some reason.   😄

Do Green Day now need 4 years to make beloved records or can they do quality quicker?
