Really sad if it can’t muster a #1 debut.

Even if the album ended up selling 100k+ copies, there's no guarantee that there wouldn't be some other artist who ends up selling more than 100k

Green Day have had their Grammys (well deserved). Blink never got that kind of acclaim, I'd be happy for them to win. Knowing what a shitshow the Grammys have become though they probably both won't be nominated and also best rock album is a category that's not even televised or given on stage. Sad really if you think about it.

I think Green Day has been shortchanged, atleast before AI. They should have swept for Dookie. No noms for Uno which actually had decent sales coming in at #2 and multiple singles in rotation. No nom for Rev Rad.

Blink has been nominated before. Like the above I think they got snubbed a bit during the 90s and early 00s. Like atleast give a nomination they were successful albums.

Idk I really didn't like the new Blink record. Poorly produced and leaned into the side of Blink I've never liked. Maybe I'm just an Untitled fan, not a "real" Blink fan.

Same boat. The production actually discounted some of the better elements of the record.

Anyone know of any other albums already released or releasing soon that will be a likely contender of the rock category of Grammys. For reference, it would need to have been released September 16th 2023 or later. Only band I can think of Sum 41, who I wouldn't expect to win or even be nominated but the fact that this is their last project/tour  before they break up may make the difference. I find a win very unlikely for them but getting nominated is definitely very possible

BMTH have Post Human Next Gen coming out and Alkaline Trio have Blood, Hair and Eyeballs but whether they’re any good or not, I don’t know yet.

It seems 40-60k is Green Day’s record buying audience regardless of the quality of the release. But FOAM tanked after week one, who are the people that will buy a GD album regardless. Saviors should hopefully do better once reviews and word is out that it’s a great album and then maybe they will continue to have sales past week one.

Im sure it will be a consistent record for them but what they really care about is monthly listeners and GD’s monthly listeners count has apparently increased alot since the maga and musk sagas.

Elon Musk was played like a billboard and he deserves it for his discriminatory business practices against people with disabilities.

I take everything I said about my cd probably not getting here until February back.  Props to Streetlight records for shipping mine in time to have it on release day.  I got the signed version!  I want to share how it looks, but don’t know how to share photos on here!

You can upload to Imgur or Tumblr then from there to GDC but is this it? Saw it on Facebook

I was on one of Green Day's youtube community posts and saw a bunch of angry MAGA dipshits. Really, the attention Elon gave them is only going to be a good thing for them lol. MAGA dipshits driving up engagement on their channel and normal non-dipshits who saw Elon's post probably like Green Day more after seeing them shit on MAGA and Elon getting butthurt about it. Not sure how much of that would translate to people listening to Saviors but any engagement is good

Imagine having endless resources but can’t achieve economies of scale for a car company with 2 models…

Yeah too many variables and rock music just doesn’t sell like it used to.

It’s impossible to figure out how an album that has been out for *one day* stacks up against a 20-year-old and 15-year-old album, each with their own legacies and memories attached to them. We can compare them somewhat on a technical level, but when we’ve been living with these older albums for so long, it’s hard to be objective. Not to mention we as listeners aren’t the same — I’m not 11 or 16 or 19 or 23 or 26 anymore, and that’s why every Green Day album hits different. They change, I change.

But I know Saviors is already among my favorites because of how immediately it resonated with me and reminded me that even though my fandom has evolved many times over, I picked these guys for a reasons that have never changed. I listen to Saviors and all the sudden I’m back in my purple childhood bedroom listening to Shenanigans through a boom box, remembering exactly how it felt then to find music that felt like mine. It is nothing short of magic to me that Green Day keeps finding me and, more times than not, manages to meet me where I’m at in life. I’ve stepped away a time or two, and every time they call me back and manage to make me fall in love all over again, it feels like such a triumph.

I truly love your posts. Couldn’t have said it better.

CO-signed!

i listened to the release day live performance and i can say that both "One Eyed" and "Bobby Sox" actually sound good live, which will surely improve my opinion about them. However, "Coma City" and "Look Ma, No Brains" are still my worst experiences off "Saviours" and are among the worst songs ever for me. You can not convince me that the latter does not literally sound as "Father Of All...". As for the first, i can not hear anything else but an high risk experiment.

As for the best placements, "Strange Days Are Here To Stay" is now firmly my favourite, after 4 more listens. "Living In The 20s" sounded more and more better with further listen, surpassing "1981" and "Saviours" for the 2nd place of this album. If only it had a nice bridge.

Also my improved view of the album and the further listens changed eventually my opinion for the album rankings: Now i place it in 7th place, above "1.039 SOSH", "Dos!", "Tré!", "Nimrod", "Dookie", "Father Of All..." and "Uno!" (the least favourite Green Day album) and behind "Kerplunk!", "American Idiot", "Revolution Radio", "Insomniac", "Warning:" and "21st Century Breakdown" (the most favourite Green Day album).

i hope the videos and audios receive the views they deserve! Happy ""Saviours" era" to everyone!

Spoiler

In my timezone it is quite before morning but i stayed up until late because me and some friends got drunk because of a fortunate event (we were sober, now we are drunk again).

Really looking forward to those people potentially shitting their pants and crying over the Bobby Sox video.

Blink

Green Day and Blink-182 have followed similar, yet significantly different paths, so the nomination possibility for each vastly differs. i never cared to learn about Blink-182 so i can not extend my thought further.

(In my country the latter are much more popular as i can judge by the respective search results, however as i mentioned before in the previous topic i only listen to Green Day and not to a single other musician for quite a long time)

Update: You are kindly requested to ignore the rest of the message below, i started writing a different response without a reason and got quite over the limit. i will delete it completely if you want.

(It is not spoiler, but rather hidden content)

Spoiler

Call me mentally unstable, but i think mentioning too much other bands while not even 2 days are fully completed from a brand new album release by Green Day endangers proving or at least showing that the community has a tendency into feeling disadvantaged against other musicians. i think the conversation is pathetic instead of active, which would offer points of constructive comparison and useful conversation.

(An example: While looking back in the -now locked- "Saviours" upcoming album conversation, i noticed that approximately in the middle, many users started talking about a different artist, almost not related at all to the band, let alone the album in wait back then. i do not think the respective fanbase would care that much about Green Day.)

It is understandable to talk about similarities in songs and work comparison, but comparing the nominations for an award seems a little senseless. Green Day are Green Day, the rest of the bands out there are these bands.

For those interested in sales figures…
https://hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=339252&title=NEW-RELEASES:-GREEN-POWER

Green Day’s 14th studio album, Saviors (Reprise), is headed toward a first week opening in the 40-50k range. This puts the set on par with the band’s last release, Father of All Motherfuckers, which opened with 48k in February 2020.

How would that be possible? I mean they had so much more promotion and so many betters reviews than FOAM and still don't sell more? I don't get it 😅
