That is pretty insane. Saviors is banger after banger and sounds like quintessential Green Day, unlike FOAM. Are they counting Fever? Otherwise One Eye Bastard could fit the sound of FOAM. FOAM just honestly sounds so different and not like them.

That’s right I forgot about OEB. That definitely came from FOAM because it was recorded or leaked around late 2020

im guessing that Look Ma is also one of them and Dilemma is not one of them (and Dilemma is also probably gonna stay on the setlist going forward while Look Ma is probably gonna get dropped)

So according to a new interview in Music Connection, those seven extra songs from FOAM ended up on Saviors

Quote: “But it mustn’t be forgotten that Green Day is promoting the Saviors album, a typically brilliant slab of work that is snotty, zany, and important in equal measure. Armstrong has said that there are seven songs on this record that didn’t make it onto the last one, the Butch Walker-produced Father of All Motherfuckers, making it all the more startling that this album is so good, that it flows so beautifully.”

I remember they said TADIKM was from those sessions and they added it later. What do we think were the other six?  And how on earth could those FOAM songs be so underwritten and mid and these Saviors songs are great?  They don’t sound like they came from the same time period at all, unless he completely rewrote them later and made them all better

Very interesting. I guess they reworked those other 7 songs, I couldn't guess what songs would be as aside from OEB the rest do not sound anything like foam. I just can imagine: Corvette summer, living in the 20s, TADIKM(and this bc they mentioned that was from those sessions) and OEB. No idea of the rest.

Maybe those 6 songs were rewritten, beefed up and were going to be the 1972 EP, which was going to be mostly punk-rock bangers.   Look Ma, Fancy Sauce, Coma City, Living in the 20s, Dilemma, Saviors, 1981 and Corvette Summer.

my best guess on when each song was written
TADIKM: FOAMF era
Look Ma No Brains!: FOAMF era
Bobby Sox: 1972 era
One Eyed Bastard: MM2020 PT2 era
Dilemma: 1972 era
1981: 1972 era
Goodnight Adeline: FOAMF era???
Coma City: 1972 era
Corvette Summer: MM2020 PT2 era??? (considering how Trans Am and this song both relate to cars but this may be a stretch)
Suzie Chapstick: sometime after Rob Cavallo joined the project
Strange Days are Here to Stay: 1972 era
Living in the 20's: FOAMF era
Father to a Son: ??? (depends on what son this song was written for)
Saviors: sometime after Rob Cavallo joined the project
Fancy Sauce: 1972 era
Fever: FOAMF era

You’re right, it could have been the original six songs they said they first recorded in London

What a perfect description you make of this brilliant album. GD have done it again. What a year 2024 had been one way and another for us GD fans.

Yet I'm somewhat saddened and feel really really sorry for the band members, if greenday.fm/charts/album-sales/, are a true reflection of the listening public out there.

Listed below are the estimated worldwide sales + streaming (album equivalent units) figures for Green Day’s albums along with the pure album sales (for releases prior to 2015) and any RIAA certifications they have been awarded for US sales. The worldwide sales + streaming overall total and individual studio albums totals are updated on the first and 15th of every month. Updated Nov 1.

Saviors Sales + Streaming 252,000

Billboard (US) watch: Positive reviews from fans and critics didn’t equal out to much of a sales boost for Saviors over the bands previous morante divisive album, Father Of All. In it’s first week Saviors matched Father Of All‘s #4 Billboard 200 debut after selling 49,000 copies in the US, 1,000 more than it’s predecessors first week performance.

Father Of All Motherfuckers  Sales + Streaming 276,000

Billboard (US) watch: Despite generally favourable album reviews from critics, Father Of All had fans divided with the bands new direction which resulted in the worst first week sales total of their career on a major label. The album debuted on the Billboard charts at #4 selling 48,000 copies in the US which was almost half the first week sales of their previous album, Revolution Radio, which came out of the gate with 95,000. The album is by far the lowest selling of the bands career.

How can this be. Undervalued comes to mind, or better still underappreciated, that is not valued highly enough.

Where's the 1.3m who bought RevRad, or 6.5m 21st Cen, or 24m AI. I know musical tastes can change over time, but is punk rock no longer relevant? Surely not. And yet when you look at tickets available for live show, many venues are sold out. Proving that GD are still one of, if not, the most stunning, musically and visually, to watch live ever. And again I was so lucky to see them again this year, they were better than ever.

I don't understand. Maybe it's me. All I can say is they don't know what they are missing. Their loss. Don't lose heart GD we love you, always. ❤️

That’s really sad. Yet the album got great reviews. And I hope the band realizes how much their fanbase likes Saviors…. We need more Saviors songs in their upcoming tour!

How are the album equivalent units for streaming calculated?

I ask because I wonder if part of the problem is that people don't listen to albums anymore? In general, people listen to singles now. Mashed up playlists in Spotify and so on.

On the other hand you have their tour, which was their most successful most attended tour ever, as per some news article someone shared a few weeks ago.

Or American Idiot anniversary boxset debuting quite high in the charts... Probably because again people just don't buy albums anymore.

And yes, I agree with @DookieLukie's point too, that Rock just isn't popular anymore. Which is quite depressing, but it is what it is.

Wow I didn't expect that Saviors didn't perform much better than FOAM. Maybe on the long term it will outperform FOAM.

I just don’t think the music scene is in a place where new Green Day music can be successful. Saviors is fresh and catchy, the singles have all been modern-sounding and clear-wormy. Rock, especially an old rock band, just doesn’t sell anymore.

sad but true

in germany you wont find any "rock" or "music with great passionate guitar/drum instrumentals" in our top 100 songs (linkin park have been the only one but i guess just because of their recent comeback)

And also, Billie posted this studio video like a day after FOAM came out recording vocals for a song that I later realized was Corvette Summer!!! And the FOAM sessions were from early 2019!!! The Saviors credits list Butch Walker on guitar for Goodnight Adeline, so could that have been a FOAM track as well? Keep in mind that before the pandemic happened, Billie hinted that they might put out another album before the Hella Mega Tour!!! Yet the Saviors Wikipedia page says that the sessions started in 2021 and says nothing about pulling songs from the FOAM sessions. So maybe they simply rerecorded these songs and kept the same sound?

I wouldn't think much about the album sales. Really I don't think there's really been any updates on sales outside of the first week sales. And albums don't really sell anymore anyway, it probably wouldn't make a big difference if they were including sales to date.

Streaming is much more important and while the tracks from FOAM still have more spotify streams than Saviors tracks in total, Saviors will overtake it at some point in the next 6 months probably and will continue to gain streams at a faster rate than FOAM probably forever. All the tracks from FOAM get shockingly little listens, even the supposedly "bigger" singles from the album, Father of All with 7.5k daily listens and Oh Yeah with an abysmal 3.5k daily listens.

When you compare Saviors figures to RevRad, it does look bad but remember that RevRad has had 8 more years to accumulate sales & streams and was released in an era where album sales weren't completely dead compared to 2024, which let it get 95k sales in its first week and a good bit more in the following weeks/months. Still Breathing and Bang Bang have been moderately successful on spotify. They're far from their most successful singles but are at 116 million and 90 million spotify streams respectively, definitely their most successful post-21CB tracks. RevRad is currently their 5th most streamed album on spotify, however is gaining streams at a much slower rate than Insomniac and even Warning, despite having more streams than those albums overall
