I think he said, “he’s doing more grown up things right now” … like what does that even mean 😂 It means his father never grew up I guess 😉
OffGreenFX
I love hearing Billie Joe speak, but what on Earth was the interviewer carrying on about choices he made? Implying that Billie Joe is a difficult interview. If he was referring to Tre I'd understand as his antics can get a bit much, but Billie is pretty routinely known as a nice guy especially since the American Idiot years onwards where he matured a lot.
dudley dawson
Good interview but not Marc’s best. Found it pretty interesting that he’s a fan of FOAM.

Billie: He’s um…uh, well…he was…a drummer…I mean he plays drums and now…he…well… Nice try Billie 😄 I guess this would fall into the “where I fucked up as a dad” category Poor Billie Joe. He was trying to not say anything wrong. I liked the parts were he talked about his upbringing and children. It's really sweet that he looks up things after his dad. I really admire him for being so open about his stuggels with alcohol. It feels like he's owning it now and he's telling his story rather than the tabloids writting whatever they want. He sound comfortable and happy doing it. He's always seemed so confident on stage. Must be inspiring for other bands to hear that he gets stagefright too. When he talked about the clothes they used during American Idiot. Iconic.
Robbie1039
Great interview! I really like the parts where Billie Joe talks about learning the solo to Crazy Train after wanting to learn it since he was 10 lol
eastbayweirdo
Was it just me or did Maron not really do much research pre-interview and kept interrupting Billie and not listening so he had to repeat himself? I used to enjoy his comedy (a self deprecating comedian is much better than one who makes fun of others!) but this wasn’t super great imo. More like it was recorded only for his podcast fans rather than hardcore Green Day fans. There are some good bits but my attention span was struggling!
stories and songs
@eastbayweirdo Not just you! I actually kept pausing the interview and going back to it because it was almost hard to focus on. It was better edited than Armchair Expert because Billie’s answers weren’t clearly clipped, but felt like I heard him talk less because Marc kept interrupting and redirecting the convo away from its natural flow. And he definitely wasn’t listening a couple times. I was listening like, “yeah Billie just said that, dude.” 😂
Robbie1039
I don’t normally listen to this podcast, but I coincidentally listened to Rivers Cuomo’s episode a couple of weeks ago and definitely felt some cringe at some points of their conversation. Marc Maron seems like a guy that will just ask a question right after it pops into his head. Not necessarily a bad thing sometimes, but it definitely made for some cringy points when talking to the calm/awkward Rivers lol. But I enjoyed both episodes overall! suffoKate
I wish he asked Billie if he’d ever seen Paris, Texas and what his favorite Wim Wendors movie is

Have you listened to Conan O'Brien's podcast episode with Rivers? It was for sznz promo. Significantly better interviewer than Marc 😅 He had a great conversation with Rivers. I hope Conan interviews Billie
The Grohl
I'm finally listening to the podcast and 2 minutes in I'm reminded why I don't like Marc Maron. I don't think he's funny. I can't stand to hear him talk, so I was not thrilled to figure out Billie doesn't start until 10 minutes in 😠

I hope Conan interviews Billie I’m pretty sure I listened to that episode, but will have to give it another listen. I think Conan O’Brien is hilarious and I’m a big fan of him. I’ve listened to his podcast a lot when it first came out but fell off of it over the last couple of years. I hope Billie goes on his show too! That’d be sick!

Popular Post The Grohl
Just finished the podcast and I agree with everyone else - it was a fine interview. I like Dax's interview better. This one seemed very...generic. Of course, I love hearing Billie talk, but I was hoping he'd talk more about Saviors. I want to know more about the songs. I did enjoy hearing the little we got, like Saviors (the song) was written during lockdown. Other highlights: It's so freaking cute to hear Billie talk about Jakob/Ultra Q. He's clearly so proud and he should be! Ultra Q are fantastic. They're not like other Green Day adjacent bands who you listen to because of the small GD connection. They're actually good. Plus, Jakob is so kind and humble. They're such nice guys. As a FOAM defender, I LOVED hearing Billie finally talk about the album. Because it was so poorly received I've been longing to hear the band's thoughts on it. I'm happy to hear Billie say he's proud of FOA and to expand on what he was trying to do with the record. Doesn't seem like he regrets it, which I think is nice. I've seen too many bands do something different, have it poorly received, and then back track on the next release either putting it down or releasing a safe record (kind of like GD did with RevRad). So I hope the boys talk more about the record. Billie opening up about his sobriety journey. Of course we didn't know the details so it was interesting to hear him talk about jumping off the wagon in 2017 and how he thought it was okay at first. And also him talking about what led to him abusing alcohol. It's always nice to hear Billie talk; I could listen to him talk about anything, but Maron is an okay interviewer. Still, happy to him our boy doing so much press! Plus, it was a joy to listen to during this slow, quiet work day. We are truly spoiled right now. 4
