The Grohl
I have such a love/hate relationship with Jon ARTV. I like his video ideas, but I hate the way he writes his scripts. They often sound like overblown press releases and bad dad jokes.
HAPPY ZOMBIE UNICORN
The New York Times has a very positive review (no rating): https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/22/arts/music/green-day-saviors-review.html 8/10 from an Italian rock magazine: https://www.rockol.it/recensioni-musicali/album/10966/green-day-saviors?amp=1 And a 7.7 https://loudandproud.it/green-day-saviors/ 1

There are so many worse reviewers out there though. Also, apparently this is his last "scripted review" so if you hate his scripts, that's probably a good thing lol. Regardless, it's cool to get reviews from people who are genuinely big GD fans rather than just people who maybe like some of their albums or appreciate what they've done in the past and then just dismissing everything they've done post-AI

Now I'm curious to see how his content changes when unscripted. And agree with you. I like that he genuinely likes the band. I'd rather watch that than someone like Fantano who clearly doesn't like the band, hasn't like them in a while, yet insists on talking about them still. LaughingClock
12 hours ago, lucky_stars said: Saviors is sitting at 72 on metacritic (same as RevRad.) FOAM is 68 and AI is 79 to give some comparison. Will be interesting to see how the user rating stacks up! I find the general taste of the film is a better metric than metaacritic. This is the phenomenon that happens. You can have a movie as a metaphor score 92% and another 77% while the 77 is way better by the people that like it. For example, Pattington 2 had like a 98 for the longest time although it came down a little I believe. I am making up the numbers so don’t try to prove them wrong but it happens all the time on both. its based on the sites intirpretation of the spirit of the reviews so a B- is certified just as fresh as an A+ so if the New York Times rates one move 3/5 it’s neither nor more or less than a 5/5 it’s just fresh so you need to click on the reviews and see what the actual number. It might be a 98 with a 7.7 (out of 10) freshness and with that, paddington 2 had an amazing freshness but a benign score because everyone apparently liked it (I haven’t seen it), but weren’t jumping out of their seats. To that end, there are some people that are just never going to like a GD album while others have no bias. The two you compared to FOAM, was historically critically bad by most, even die hardens, AI went to become a masterpiece and the hype on Saviors to RevRad IMO is much stronger with Saviors. It just feels that way after being around for every release. Realized when I first starting hearing it that I was gonna like it in all as I need it good one but I believe the hype is real and this one isn’t standing on the shoulders of anything else. To me it’s their best sounding in every way since AI. either way 79 and 72 comparing to one of the greatest of all time albums is pretty damn good even if you don’t take in my considerations.

Christian's Inferno!
Album of the year gives a better idea of the difference between Saviors & FOAMF in terms of critical reception because there are more critic reviews on there. And I'm pretty sure Metacritic calculates its critic score in a dumb way which gives certain publications more of a say and doesn't actually determine the actual average score among critics. User scores on AOTY are a lot more harsh than Metacritic because I think that's also the site where all the pretentious "critics" and music nerds post their reviews and ratings https://www.albumoftheyear.org/album/778158-green-day-saviors.php 3 minutes ago, dudley dawson said: He liked FOAM upon release but did a revisit of it a few months back and admitted he got it wrong. I mean he gave FOAM a 3.5/5 initially and changed it to a 2.5/5. Not a huge difference. I know there were a lot of people, including me, who actually enjoyed FOAMF on release because the non-singles were better than the singles (except IWATT). But over time, those non-singles haven't really stood the test of time and while they're still better than the singles imo, they're not standouts in their discography. Like I think I probably considered FOAMF an 8/10 when I first heard the full album just because of how much I initially enjoyed Side B but that score very quickly went down and now I'd probably give it a 4/10.

Yup. I gave FOAM a 4/5 when I first heard it. Now I'm like that's wayyyyyyy too high. I would give it a 3 at best. I still enjoy the record, but the songs don't hold up. They're fun in the moment though.

That Dude
Haven't watched it yet, but I know they are not crazy about Green Day and kind of like real mellow rock. Great channel, they kind of do something similar to what I do, but they probably don't like it.

Yeah I had to mention it because this album feels different. A lot of people had the same oh it's their best since X sentiments with RevRad. But this is much different than RevRad. It's like Green Day are confident again and I love that. But thank you for taking the time to read the review, it means a lot to me.

When someone says that he doesn't like Fantanos review is that also an opinion that has to be respected. We've had several bad reviews in this topic (way less than during FOAM), and of course these opinions will be critized more since this is a Green Day fan forum. Freedom of speech doesn't mean that an opinion has to be liked by everyone.
