My thoughts exactly. It’s good, but nothing spectacular, at least after 5-10 listens. Maybe it will grow on me. I just don’t see how people are saying things like it’s their best song in 20 years…?

I’m getting a little tired of the *quiet a capella intro directly into a wall of sound*. Outlaws, Teenage Teenager, Holy Toledo are just a few recent examples that come to mind, and now Dilemma. It’s a gimmick that’s getting old. To me this song is like a catchier, slightly faster rehash of Outlaws.

We should create a deep division between Apple and Galaxy people here on the forum.   Let's segregate because Apples make me sick....Kidding, kidding.  But who uses Apple products?  Their only good for getting lost in the laundry and not being fixable by rice.    I lost so many icons that way and it was totally not my fault.      Good audio is a myth.   😄

I haven't tried to rank this song in comparison with the rest of the band's discography but I feel like I haven't been as excited about an upcoming Green Day album since waiting for the release of RevRad.

The video is so good!  Sometimes I think a great video detracts from the song so I have now listened to the song a few times on it's own and it's still great.

I always listen to a song first before watching the video, because I don’t want the video to put any ideas in my head about how to interpret it and as you said, sometimes videos can detract from the song. But this one does the opposite — it really strengthens the message!

Been watching the video on repeat throughout the entire evening, with a bottle in hand.

There's something about the song that gives off a positive vibe, like there is some hope for the endless struggle, some light at the end of the tunnel and the realization that it doesn't have to be that way.

But on the other hand, that vibe is also getting smashed down by the despair of the drunk doing the same mistakes over and over again, and acting like an asshole, but never seeming to get enough of it. He doesn't want to be that (a dead man walking), but at the same time, he doesn't want to be dead inside (a dead man walking) without the poison - which he's so obsessing about - running through his veins.

The vocals sound tired and strained, and if it were any other artist, I'd probably point that out as a negative thing. But especially the chorus in this, it's pure emotions. It adds so much to the overall vulnerability of the lyrics. It sounds like he's actually hopeless singing the chorus, but the hopelessness goes away by being able to sing it this way. To let it all out and focus on what's more important in life.

Really love that you pointed this out, because I didn’t pick up on the double meaning there. He weaves this duality of addiction throughout the song in different ways: in trouble/in love, nightmare/dreams, despair/obsession. Very thought provoking.

Noticed that too, and it's my only gripe. I think this would sound a bit more natural with the melody: "Sitting a-round in re-haaab..."
Also "And now here's to all my problems" instead of "Here's to all my proooooooblems"

On another note, my mind also keeps expecting "This is my dilemma and it's my fixation" to better rhyme with "invitation" lol

Wow already passed 100k views in less than a work day. If you look at the comments almost all are extremely positive about the video and the song. 
 

I don’t care about that stuff but it’s not something I’ve seen on a GD song for a long time so I wanted to note that. 
 

They’re 3/3 since October and many people called that out in comments. Last time Green Day was 3/3 was during AI. Can this album go 5/5?

I think the song perfectly captures the feeling or state of mind as someone who suffers with that sort of thing.

Ive had my own issues and I feel this exactly. You go from making something a lifestyle to going cold turkey. Then you try and settle for a balance and then it spins out of control and then youre back to the beginning.
