That’s the Dilemma in a nutshell.  I think having been back and forth a few times now since 2012, he’s more honest about it now than he was then when he sounded like he was over and done with that life forever. Now he has enough experience to know he can’t say that as much as he’d like to. All he can do is keep trying.

Apart from the beautifully honest, fantastically shot video and the great lyrics, can we please worship for a minute how hard this song ROCKS OMG. The "dead man walking"-scream-part is just SICK.

Well said. I know it’s something he has struggled with since the 90s, but I think his first long stretch of being sober and then experiencing an equally long stretch of drinking before getting sober again more recently probably gave him the perspective to realize that it’s lifelong work and there will be ups and downs.

While I would love for this to happen, I don’t think this song has the potential to have mass appeal. The lyrics hit us the most because we are very familiar with his struggles, but I would bet that general listeners may not be fully aware of his addiction issues, and therefore may not have the same reaction.

I saw some posts a bit back saying this should’ve been the lead single, but I think TADIKM was the right choice.

Addiction is universal and the concept of being sober once but now currently being drunk is such a popular struggle. Musically it's relatively upbeat and the lyrics are sung in a way that makes it not super heavy to listen to but it also doesn't just completely disregard the subject matter. The potential is there in spades, but is the audience? Different story.

I agree; this is an excellent song for the fans, but I feel it does not appeal enough to outside groups. I wonder if it will get radio plays. Ive only heard TADIKM on the radio so far.

Still Breathing is the most obvious comparison here, but I think it’s really interesting to compare this to Lazy Bones. Lazy Bones is such an amazing song that really disturbingly captures the mindset addiction comes with, but a less realistic one: “I don’t want your sympathy, I don’t want your honesty, I just wanna get some peace of mind.” It’s a neat juxtaposition from, “welcome to my problems, it’s not an invitation.”

Even though drunk and high Green day created masterpiece such as dookie,nimrod, Ai, 21st breakdown and trilogy and were super fun live I think it's time to have wholesome Billie of Revrad back again. I am so god damn grateful and faithful to green day

I get insomniac vibes so far every single is rather dark and bleak as well as very personal. As someone whose favorite record is Insomniac I feel this new record is going to be amazing. I feel this song WILL BE successful and still hope Father To a Son gets a release because in every album description/review tease that song gets mentioned. We need to stream and post this video and request it on radio as fans we can support the band. And people who forgot about Insomniac or sleep on it give that another listen those lyrics hinted at what was going on and foreshadowed plenty.
