Warszawa
Fuck that's what I was worried about. Billie has been recycling melodies a lot recently. Just that basket case rip off in American dream and that pink song in OEB. Now you guys are telling me father of all is just regretfully yours and living in the 20s is oh yeah. Somebody please tell me these songs sound great despite them being copy cats.

Popular Post pacejunkie punk
Billie was saying on the WTF podcast that Saviors was the first song he wrote in lockdown and now the lyrics make sense. It really captures the feeling of that weird and scary time.

Throughout the album, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s vocals shine, showcasing his fantastic range and emotional delivery. The instrumentation performance from all members is top-notch, and the production is refreshing, providing a seamless backdrop to the band’s sonic exploration. Saviors stands as a testament to Green Day’s enduring brilliance, proving that even after decades in the industry, they can still deliver a stellar album that not only pays homage to their roots but also propels their sound into the future. This is a true return to form, solidifying Green Day’s position as stalwarts in the realm of punk rock. 5

Popular Post Christian's Inferno!
The recycling melodies / rip off criticism is something Green Day has been getting for decades. Warning sounds like Picture Book by The Kinks. BOBD sounds like Wonderwall. American Eulogy sounds like Deadbeat Holiday. Lazy Bones sounds like Give Me Novacaine. It's impossible not to make songs that sound like other songs, whether they be previous GD songs or songs from other artists. In the case of TADIKM, I think the Basket Case melody is for sure intentional. It's their most popular song and released right after Dookie 30th anniversary album

People that critique a band using these arguments should have Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and any other “rock monster” classic band disappearing from history for their “lack of originality” in taking inspiration from the music of 20-30 years before them.

Popular Post DeJennsitized
I personally love that you can pick out so many inspirations in their music. Feels like little homages. People are so precious about the order of a chord progression, like chill out and enjoy what people are putting out into the world 💀
Popular Post Spike
I've decided I'm not listening to any more snippets or teasers until the album is out. But GOD I can't wait, these songs are so good. Are they groundbreaking or hugely original in any way? Not really. Do I care? Hell no. The production is so powerful and the performances are so energetic, and I feel like that's what we've been missing since 21st Century Breakdown. Just songs to scream to. It's finally fun to be a Green Day fan again.

I guess on the subject of lifting melody, there’s nothing as brazen as “and she’s dangerous” from she’s a rebel into sugar youth on here, so I think we’re on the clear!

Sugar Youth references multiple previous songs, pretty sure they're all intentional Sugar Youth is just a synonym for Sweet Children. There's the She's A Rebel reference of course. And it also references Peacemaker with the line "I've got a fever, a non-believer, and it's killing me" that appears in both songs. Idk if there are any more references in that song I'm missing but these all seem intentional to me 4 2
