I haven’t been to a listening party and I’ll wait until Friday to hear the album but I’m really glad to read all the positive reactions in this forum. I feel like it’s gotten nearly impossible for Green Day to please fans and certain critics after the release of AI. Most of the albums that came out after AI received generally positive reviews. Even FOAM wasn’t completely hated by music journalists. Sure, it was polarizing, but despite some of the hate it got, it also received praise. Yet some people act as if the band hasn’t done anything good in the last 20 years and I just don’t agree with this assessment. I feel like the band has become a bit of a punching bag for music elitists and gatekeepers who hate them for reasons I can’t quite explain. Maybe it’s because they associate AI with teenage anxiety which is automatically uncool for some people? Or maybe it’s because they believe that middle-aged men shouldn’t make punk rock anymore? That’s obviously silly, but there seems to be this consensus among a certain group that post-AI Green Day just isn’t worth listening to anymore. Take 21CBD for example. That album won a Grammy and people still talk shit about it all the time. RevRad had some of the band’s best songs ever (Bang Bang, Forever Now) and yet it doesn’t necessarily have the best reputation. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you’re not allowed to dislike the new album or criticize the band, I’m just really happy to see so many excited fans right now. Because ultimately, that’s the most important thing. It’s a great time to be a fan.

Is this the band’s best album since 21CBD? I think it’s difficult to say. I remember a lot of fans saying similar things about RevRad when it came out so I guess we’ll have to wait and see. In general, I think it’s really difficult for any artist to meet people’s expectations after having a massive record like Dookie or AI. Many of us were teenagers when these records came out, meaning that some of the songs hit extra hard because this is a period of life where we are just super impressionable. Plus, these albums are 30 or 20 years old and we all had plenty of time to build an emotional connection with specific songs. You can’t do that with a record that just came out. That’s why I don’t believe that every band is automatically past their prime once they turn 40. But the fans get older and maybe we’re just not as easy to please as we were when we were 15.

Bottom line music is subjective  People's taste change over time.  However you also gotta keep in mind that people need a target for how they feel about life.  If that means being overly negative toward a band they "used" to hold in high regard then so be it.  What I've learned is if you don't like the way a band is now, move on.  Going on forums or denigrating people because they still like a band you used to like is not productive. Shoot I used to like no doubt until they dropped rock steady.  I hated that album outside of hella good and don't let me down.  Nevertheless you're not going to see me on their message board talking trash about the band since i'm not a fan of their work after that album nor am I going to make videos on my youtube page about how much I don't like their music now.  Life is short, too much nasty people in the world.  Focus on the stuff you do like and have a fun.  You can agree to disagree about your taste in music.  People these days just want to have a reason to get into with someone whether they know them or not.  No need, keep it movin.

yeah if they just did cuatro as a studio album (quadrilogy) or just put more songs on each of the trilogy like i'm alright, can't believe my eyes, ruby mae, hello fire cracker... that would be kickass

Co-Sign.  Lyrics are not the problem.  I feel the song should be more fast paced for the what is being said.  But hey.

It’s funny with the talk of RevRad being a personal album for some people because obviously it was released in 2016 and in Strange Days there is a mention of things not being the same since Bowie died - 2016 felt like a shift in our culture and RevRad was the soundtrack to that. It resonates I think, in a similar way to AI being the soundtrack to a post 9/11 world.

strange days is the 2020s soundtrack (judging by the lyrics on the lyric sheet on r/greenday) to me... 'gen z killings, baby boomers'

The trilogy already gets constant shit for how much is on there. Why do you think there'd be another album worth of material that would be worth releasing?

I said it in a 'what if' way, I'm not saying it'll actually happen

I see. But nothing on the opposite end of the spectrum - as in lower than usual, where more of his "old tone" shines through?

I forget which song now but there is one, I assume the one which was described as him singing like Chester Bennington, I wouldn’t say I got that from it but it was not his FOAM voice for sure.  It’s already been said, but my overall impression were his vocals were excellent throughout.

Idk might be an unpopular opinion here, but TADIKM has the worst lyrics on the album.

Lot of the album deals with personal and genuine topics while American Dream is vague slogans again. Still a decent song

I take it as isolation in the 20s, having an advanced sex doll instead of interacting with people

Did anyone think he sounded like Chester?

Not really. I understand reviews tried to find an example cause Billie Joe screamed a little bit more than he usually does, but for me it didn‘t sound like Chester

Maybe it’s the quality of the video, but Bobby Sox seems to clean, or not raw enough for most of the song. It kicks in more towards the very end, but just think it’s ok. I like the influences in it, but just not sure about it right now. Strange days are here to stay grew on me a lot. Corvette Summer and Suzy Chapstick definitely my least favorite tracks.

I think it is a line that is 100% directed at the incels that end up being the mall/school shooters. They need to fuck a robot that only speaks English. Takes a direct shot at their inability to get sex as well as their racism against anybody that is a non-English speaker
