Fancy Sauce should've been called we all die young all the little clips I've heard tells me it's epic

I did a quick google search for the supposed leak and nothing came up, so I'll take that as a sign of the universe to just wait another week. That said I did listen to the room recording / leak of Father to a son and honestly, it's an instant classic. Kinda gives me vibes of a four way mash up of Good Riddance, When It's Time, 21 Guns and The Forgotten, with a bit of Oasis/Beatles/Rolling Stones vibes thrown in in the end. What a great song, honestly. This is why, in my view, Green Day is a ROCK band more than anything else (punk, pop etc.). I love them to bits and seriously can't wait for next Friday to come rolling around!

This is shaping up to be a very solid album. Dare I say it (unpopular opinion), quite possibly their best album since American Idiot.

There's a song by Liam gallaghers side band beady eye called kill for a dream that has similar chords to father to a son

Yeah fancy sauce makes it sound crap. "we all die young someday" or even shorter formations would resonate w/ me

Whoever said it sounded like H&H and Walking Contradiction had a baby, that is bang on 😂 The song is Living In The 20s, I also got a bit of Sugar Youth melody from it too.

thanks 😂

I like how some people in this thread said living in the 20s was gonna be the least favorite of the album, and here we are saying it might be an album favorite or at least top 5

The verse on 1981 "Coffee and cyanide for lovers in disgrace" doesn't sound very similar to the "let freedom ring with all the crazies on parade" from Back In The USA?

Also I really like Corvette Summer. Really classic rock banger. Would be great live!

It does! I noticed that when I first heard it in the store!

It sounds more like the chorus in ‘song of my returning’ by pinhead gunpowder

I think the party was stupid honestly. It made me leave feeling empty… now I have to wait 6 days.

Sorry not meaning to be a downer- I might completely change my mind with repeat listens. They’re all nice tunes, but they kind of blend into each other and feel a bit superficial. There’s nothing getting close to a Restless Heart Syndrome, Brutal Love or a Bang Bang (or most of 21CB/Rev Rad to be honest). Production sounds good though.

The songs that you listed are one of my favorites and very unique, but we need to take into account that the boys are in their 50s and past their prime but still making killer music, and that I am very grateful for.

The listening party was great! The merch giveaways were great and the album is really good. Not a single bad or even mediocre song on it. My only complaint is that I left wanting to keep listening to it and have to wait 6 days now! With a few more listens this could be a top 5 album in their discography if it all holds up. Billie's vocals sound fantastic, Tre has some excellent moments, Mike finds fun and interesting bass grooves throughout, and Rob Cavallo really came through on the production here. The reaction in the store was very positive as well with a good turnout.

Agree it's his best vocals since 21st he has really gotten so much better at hitting the higher register notes I'm really impressed with his vocals throughout saviors

Based on one listen, there are some pretty good tracks at times, but overall it just doesn’t flow style wise very well. Bobby Sox doesn’t really sound anything like one eyed bastard. Fancy Sauce doesn’t really sound that much like Nirvana, sounds more like the Ozzy cover from the Longshot album. I don’t think the heavy brit pop influenced songs are as good as Black Eyeliner from the expanded Nimrod album, which is a Generation X type song I always wanted them to do. I’m sure it will grow on me some, but I thought it was a less edgier album than people have been saying. Living in the 20’s sounds like it was originally a Network song. Father to a Son is pretty good but didn’t really live up to the hype imo. Bobby Sox is ok. Not really what they are best at imo. Sounds like teenager teenager but produced in a way that’s more appealing to hardcore fans. Not really any songs as good as Bang Bang or Rev Rad. They still to me sound better on the side projects. I like the singles here, probably 1981 and a few other songs. Not fantastic or really a return to their old roots like I would’ve thought based on the singles. When I heard Fever was a b-side I thought maybe this wouldn’t be what I expected possibly. Some Rev rad and and father of all songs grew on me though. I’d be very surprised if any other song on Saviors does as well as American Dream. It intrigues me enough to keep listening though. For now I’d say it’s somewhere between a 6-7/10. Maybe my expectations were just too high. Usually the biggest fans and early listeners overrate things at first.
