I honestly think if it wasn't for rehab and the meltdown, the trilogy would have performed relatively well and there would be a much more positive perception of it in the fandom and public. It has its flaws, like any other record, but the tide turned on them for this one, unfortunately in a way that they couldn't really control.

Exactly!!! Oh Love was all over the radio that summer!!!

A tide is natural, what happened to them after IHeart was forced.

It was not the first time Clear Channel essentially attempted to cancel Green Day. It’s even mentioned in Bullet In A Bible. The event is publicly known as the “Clear Channel Memorandum” and saw Green Day get labeled as music that was “anti-american” and “not appropriate for post 9-11”.

In the writing they mentioned only Brain Stew was selected for that category however, that isn’t true. If they started to list multiple songs then Green Day would have more grounds to sue. They ended up pretty much shutting them down entirely in their practice. This is probably why I only ever heard Green Day in movies years before AI.

That’s really interesting, actually. It may not be possible to cancel an act as huge as Green Day but they certainly had the power to take them down a peg.

This is what really annoys me about radio, to me, they should constantly be playing new stuff by everybody, let us hear new music and we will decide if we like it but they have become the supposed arbiters of taste, so we get to hear what they think we should be listening to! I knew lots of music was taken off playlists in the US after 9/11 but I don’t remember hearing about Clear Channel trying to cancel them.  Quite a leap to get back in favour then.

Well Clear Channel is near a monopoly so if radio stops playing them its most likely due to clear channel. The radio stations that kept playing GD were the alternative stations not owned by clear channel. But theyre very small in numbers compared to what Clear Channel owns.

Is anyone been able to figure out the lyrics now that the song has been played without any issues?

sort of, [Chorus]

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

[Verse 1]

She's throwing punches to the beat

To the sound of cable TV

And she'll never see the world the same

She is a Cold War in my head

And I am whispering

All the change inside of us

Oh no

[Pre-Chorus]

Coffee and cyanide for lovers in the state

If this is not a test

Got one foot in the grave

[Chorus]

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

[Bridge]

Crime falling on the time

Champagne and (bottle something??)

God-Bless the end of times

Pain, commas(?) and cocaine

Slamdance around the rain

We lived the truth (???)

[Chorus]

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

She's gonna bang her head like 1981

Still not a huge fan of this song. Seems like filler. Luckily only 2 mins of filler. Odd they seem to like it so much, which worries me about the quality of the rest of the songs.

Yeah if this is the song they’re playing live ahead of release, I have to be cautious about the rest. Or they just have bad taste

Or maybe it's the new Know Your Enemy.

A catchy singalong song but not the best of the album.

I think it's gonna be the next single for the way that the band push it

I'm not crazy about it either, but am trying not to judge until I hear the album version.  I also think back to RevRad, when my reaction was Bang Bang- Yeah!, Revolution Radio- Yeah!, Still Breathing- screeching halt.  But I came to like it and loved the whole album.

The song is super repetitive and can't imagine it'll add much to the album, but gotta admit that it's catchy and has been getting stuck in my head!

I think I have some more here:

She's gonna bang her head like 1981 (x4)

She's throwing punches to the beat

To the sound of cable TV

And she'll never see the world the same

She is a Cold War in my head

And I am itching red

On the danger side of parts unknown

[Pre-Chorus]

Coffee and cyanide for lovers into space

If this is not a test

We got one foot in the grave

[Chorus]

She's gonna bang her head like 1981 (x4)

[Bridge]

Crime falling all the time

Champagne and party lines

God bless the end of times

Pain, comics and cocaine

Slam dance in acid rain

We live the truth and pretend that it’s the same

[Chorus]

The words I was trying to work out for months were “slam dance”

Yeah, it's definitely not a bad song at all, but it kinda feels like they've written better versions of this same song before. Nothing wrong with that I guess, but I do agree that it's a bit weird that they seem to love it so much.

I agree..it's not bad but not doing much for me right now. I won't make final judgements until the official release but now, it's just okay.
