Not necessarily. It could seem like a pattern but still be a random series of decisions for different reasons. I honestly don’t think he knew about the Morrissey thing. As for Bill Maher, I don’t know what his views or leanings are or like with Morrissey if Billie is just thinking of his experience on the show years ago and knows nothing about it anymore. Or, he feels like this is a case of someone you’re not going to agree on with everything but he’s not toxic like Tucker Carlson.

Not to bring it all up again but all that stuff about Morrissey was in the British tabloid press. Americans knew nothing about it because he’s so irrelevant here. Like Billie, all I thought was that I loved The Smiths so I could see him wanting to work with him without even realizing he had to be vetted. Seems like everyone has to be vetted these days. The Gary Glitter thing was different since the dude was literally in prison it made news everywhere and was more widely known.

Maybe but Morissey's asshole nature is pretty known far and wide, at least that's my impression. Lots of major US publications I read will gleefully post about his shenanigan's. And even if he's not a household name, I would still think the band would be cautious about who they work with in the aftermath of the Morrissey thing because it still got some eyebrows raised and some backlash. They may not have known what a dick he is and the problematic things he's said when they worked with him, but boy did they know afterwards.

Omg I forgot about the Morrissey thing 🤦‍♀️

Yeah this is quite a strange choice for the band. And you'd think they'd be a bit more cautious with who they work with after the Morrissey thing and having to explain themselves using the Gary Glitter sample.

Oh, no! I had forgotten about the Gary Glitter sample! That was rough.

That’s true, so while I excuse the Morrissey thing because any Gen Xer would still be excited to work with him, it certainly should be a lesson learned for the next time. And you could argue this is that next time

When you say "these choices aren't accidental", I don't know what you're trying to suggest. That they're deliberately making bad decisions? That they're right wing?

I will say the "Gravity Bong" bit introduced 16 year-old-me to a whole new way of smoking weed back in the day

Billie also wrote CUNT about that girl who accused his son of sexual assault. Most celebs are democrats for brand but neoliberal at home. It seeps out in their art a lot.

I think they just don’t care that much to see working with Morrissey or Maher as an issue at all. So what the guy is racist or transphobic or whatever, he seems decent enough to do business with. Plus  I just can’t imagine the guy who wrote a song called CUNT being pressed about any of this.

I guess there’s no way to know because what he says to the press in response could have no relation to how he really feels about these things

Yeah that’s true, but since it keeps happening, I’m starting to think he might  actually be indifferent to it and i have to say that’s better than being indifferent and pretending to be outraged instead of admitting you just don’t care that much

Bill Maher is largely liberal (not all all issues) but will go after the right and far left.  He's also involved with Project Chimps, so Billie also knows him from doing work on that.

It's so weird though that the band that fought so hard for minorities and for people to dress however they want, be whoever they want, has now designed the sound for the guy who says that people nowadays only come at as LGBTQ+ because it's trendy. Like, fuck this guy. The shit he says is as equally hateful and spiteful as the shit Fox News used to put out back in the day.

Okay, so he may know him more on a personal level and that's never the same as someone's public persona. He's judging differently

Gah, you guys are so much more rational and nuanced than me. Honestly, you should be commended, yknow.

I guess the way the world's been going on lately, we should:

- accuse Billie and the band for supporting rape because of a tongue in cheek song that they wrote, that talks about a specific story that we will never ever really know the exact truth of

- accuse Billie for racism for collaborating with one of the best songwriters of all time, whos music touched millions of people's life, but can from time to time bark some inconsiderate crap

- accuse them for racism for using words like ''f-----' or ''n-----'' in their songs, even though it's there for a poetic reason and they're not using it as a way to demean anyone, but using it to criticize the people who would say something like that

- accuse the band for racism for having a part in a Simpsons movie, cause apparently the legendary adult animated show franchise whos whole purpose was to be as raunchy and absurd as possible is not cool anymore

- accuse them again for being a life long friend and music colleagues of Tim Armstrong because he dated a 16 years old Brody Dale while he was 30 😱 They were clearly supporting a rapist!!

and so on and so on

Just forget everything this band actually stands for, what they've accomplished and the number of lives they've changed and saved with their music and cancel everything!

This world and people managed to take an originally positive movement of great cause and turn it around into a manifesto of contradiction, trends and not thinking with your own head. The most ironic thing is that it's also happening on a Green Day forum out of all places 😔

I better hide cause the last time I felt the need to react to similar bullshit, I was also myself accused as ''rape supporter'' and was given a verbal warning 😬

The N-word may not be "Voldemort" but it carries a lot of weight and even if it's not being used as a derogatory term, it doesn't mean people are okay with hearing or seeing it. It can still make people uncomfortable.

....anyway so.....

I wouldn't even be able to tell this was Green Day if no one mentioned it. It just sounds like standard show intro to me 🤷‍♀️

And the wheel goes on.. I'm saying the ''n word'' for attention and making people uncomfortable??

You know what's really uncomfortable? Being a victim of people manipulating your words, putting them out of contest and missing the whole point: especially when it comes to racism, sexism or anything related to those subjects, which I've fought against my whole fucking life, being surrounded by primitive and racist people.

It's really scaring me how extreme this has become.

If I said I loved Bill Maher, would it make you calm down?

I'm seeing this thread for the first time. Damn I'm working too much with my new job lol.
I think the sound is cool but it's generic. Anyway I'm happy it's made by Green Day!

And of course on GDC a thread can't stay on track. Nothing new here.
