Popular Post Westerberg89
I have thought this for a while. This record is flawless and it’s the start of Green Day really branching out and being brave with new sounds and styles. This record is why they’ve not just ended up as another 90’s punk rock band & instead a true rock and roll juggernaut that has rightly been inducted into the RnR hall of fame. Even the ‘deeper cuts’ are easily some of their best work, Haushinka, Jinx, All The Time, Worry Rock, Uptight, The Grouch, Scattered, Prosthetic Head, Redundant, Take Back, Reject, Platypus… I could go on and on. I feel like this record goes under the radar, people will always look to American Idiot and Dookie as their best bodies of work - both are incredible in their own way but Nimrod, damn, it covers everything that we love about these guys. It’s also them being daring and showing how great they are as musicians… These guys didn’t need Warped Tour or to hang out with all the Fat Wreck bands, instead they’ve cemented themselves in rock and roll royalty and history & this record epitomises that. I don’t know what more to say other than that this record is their true Magnum Opus. 8

I don’t know what more to say other than that this record is their true Magnum Opus. Nimrod is a super special album for me, and it certainly helped them create a stable career after two albums that largely stayed in the confines of a certain sound. I'm extremely biased, but aren't we all? When it comes to music, I think that Nimrod, Warning, Idiot and Shenanigans are the greatest music ever made, period. (Maybe some FOAM too, but that's whole other topic :)) Nimrod was my starting point with Green Day. My mom and I heard Good Riddance on the way to middle school, and she ordered Nimrod for me through one of those catalogue where you could supposedly order 5000000000000 CD for 1 cent. I put that cd in my little blue boom box in my room and thought I was in for 18 tracks of sweet, acoustic ballads. I may have had a similar experience with Smash Mouth several months prior (Walking on the Sun does NOT prepare you for the punk rock onslaught of Fush Yu Mang) but Nimrod was different. Before Nice Guys Finish Last was over, I knew I had to find out everything there was to know about this Punk Rock stuff. It was transcendent. It instantly healed some of the bullied wounds from middle school. It understood the weird feelings about love and romance that I didn't understand at all. For a while, I had some other favorites. But my parents and I were hooked on Green Day, and I snagged Warning as soon as it was availibe. Then Superhits, and Shenanigans. Along with Nimrod, these albums convinced me to go back and get Insomniac, Kerplunk and 1039. Tracking those earlier ones down back then wasn't so easy for a kid, but I did it. I became obsessed with them during this time period and then it seemed like it was over before it had begun. The compilations were placeholders because the band were having issues, and burning out. Wouldn't it be strange if Shenanigans was the last we heard from Green Day? Would they have joined other bands? Got different jobs? And then the excited murmurs of greatness began. They had fought their demons and were working on something special. The rest is history. But yes. For me, it all starts with Nimrod - my introduction to punk and alternative music. 3
Insomniac1984
Westerberg89: Nimrod- Green Day's best record. Me: OF COURSE!!!
grinsoniko
I agree with everything that has been said here. Nimord is also my favorite album not just by GD but ever. Lyrically is flawless and incredibly honest, experimenting with new sounds and paving the way for Warning and AI sonically. Maybe it has to do with resonating with me at the time it came out, but many of my favorite songs come from that album. For me it’s peak Green Day sound and it’s the album that saparated them from the bunch and cemented my love for the band.
jengd
I am incapable of rating stuff but I adore Nimrod, listen to it as a whole album on a regular basis, it’s a brilliant album.
Slave To The Network
Nimrod is certainly one of their best! It's up there on my list of favorites, but I wouldn't call it the best.
Westerberg89
In Cuatro, I'm sure that Billie said 'Nimrod. Lyrical nightmare'. He mentioned taking the songs into the studio & having to write the lyrics in the studio. Anyway, personally i think the lyrics in Nimrod are his best work, by a longshot (no pun intended). We know he chops & changes his mind quite a lot too, i'm sure on another day he'll tell you how proud he is of the lyrics on that record. Guitar sounds, tones, bass & drum sounds, all sound perfect on this album. I love how clear the hats are from Tre. The songs really drive along because of this. Last Ride In is so perfect too, such a chill vibe.
pacejunkie punk
It’s also one of my favorite tours to watch. Full of variety and songs we don’t hear anymore, Billie’s starting to become a performer and engage the audience more and it’s the last time they tour as just a trio. 3
Lenny
It's hard for me to say which album is the best. Green Day has so many great records and each record plays a special part in their story. Nimrod has always been one that I've spoken about a lot with non-Green Day fans, especially those who were divisive with "old green day vs new green day". "I'm not down with new Green Day" Oh ok so anything after Insomniac you're not down with? "AI and after" Yeah but GD already became so called New Green Day during Nimrod. Nimrod was huge for Green Day's growth and there's just a great range of different songs and a ton of tracks. You get your money's worth with Nimrod. I do wish they released one album between Warning and AI though because 2002 was a really great year for Green Day as a band but it's an era easily not known about or forgotten because there was no real album released during that time. It probably would have beat out Warning but wouldn't have had much impact overall but I could see that album being respected retroactively.
HoneyEmerald
"Best" is such a subjective term.... an opinionated preferential that lobotomizes the fluidity of changes that could in fact be deemed better. Let Green Day be Green Day! Long Live Green Day and the moments they aim for! Let their creativity not be a hardship!
Doggins
Nimrod isn't my favourite album but it is my favourite era! That tour, those antics.. GD at their 90s punk rock finest
Psycho Britney
I do really enjoy the variety on Nimrod. I've got a very soft spot in my heart for 'The Grouch' and 'Scattered'. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd love to hear GD play these live again!

Hopefully one day you'll at least get to hear Scattered as they've been playing that a bit more often lately (notably on the RevRad Tour)

Just need them to start playing 'The Grouch' now!😉
dirnt286
Nimrod will probably always be my favorite album of their as well. It was the first album I heard of their, back when it was their newest album. The song, lyrics, and especially the production, as perfect. I agree, 100% favorite Green Day album. I wish Billie would take the production of his vocals back to Nimrods production. His vocals on this album are upfront, present, and unfiltered. They sound real. Billie doesn't need this production gunk to make it sound "gritty, raw and distorted' (or however he described it in an interview some time over the past 10 years. ick)

It's just pure & vulnerable, the songs, his voice, everything. They all play to their absolute peak on Nimrod too, in my opinion. It's truly flawless.
