Rod's Hickory Pit (Green Day's First Gig)?

Ok… I made a Reddit post comparing Rod's Hickory Pit (1987) to the Starbucks/Gas Station it now is and some random user said this: "Shame to see...I have the Rod's Hickory Pit performance on cassette and it's a pretty darn good show, imo. I believe there is an unreleased song or two in the set"

I think this guy is getting mixed up with some other show but idk what’s going on.

He replied to someone saying how they got it,

"Back in the late 90's, bootleg tape trading was a big thing on the internet. There was a bunch of sites and forums that were totally geared toward cassette and VHS bootleg trading...I don't know why they went the way of the dinosaur, but anyways, yeah, back in those days I got a bunch of rare Green Day boots".

We should contact him and try to get some uncirculated show

I'm sorry, a bit confused. Green Day's first gig 1987? According to Gillian Gaar's Green Day Rebels with a cause, they were then Sweet Children. There first live gig was at the school's talent show in Spring 1987, SC came second. Beaten by a group of girl cheerleaders. Billie Joe was well pissed off. The result was obviously rigged.  SC performed the following year at Rod's Hickory Pit in fall of 1988. Hope that helps.

I thought the school talent show was Billie on his own?

Billie or John cited Rod’s Hickory Pit (I think John though) at the 2015 Cleveland House of Blues show

It was, there’s a short video clip of it online (I think he did Stay). Rod’s was the first SC gig.

Thanks for that, really appreciate you putting me straight. Teach me not to take books literally. Got several on Green Day's history, they can't even agree on discography chronology.

Always best to trust this community first. Thanks again

I have read most books about them and think they all have errors.

He ended up replying to someone saying he has gigs from 1989 - about 1994 so no he doesn't have this show. If a recording of this show exists and had been in the trading world, it would be definitely known about. Sadly I don't think a recording exists, and if one does it's either lost, or in a Green Day vault that will never see the light of day

I'll ask…

If anyone's interested here is the incomplete setlist:

1. Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne cover)

2. Best Thing in Town (First known performance)

3. 1000 Hours (First known performance)

4. Dry Ice (First known performance)

5. My Generation (The Who cover)

6. La Bamba ([traditional] cover) (Sung by Mike)

HOLY SHIT. So the guy responded: "I need to dig out my cassette and VHS boots to see exactly what I have, but I'm 100% sure I have the show where they perform at BJA's Mom's place of work...you can hear hear screaming things like "I love you Billie!" throughout the show LOL" - Like idk if he has the cassette but if he does… the entire Green Day Community owes me a fat high five.

Hope he's right but be aware that Billie's mom attended a lot of shows in those early years (and still does).  You can hear her yelling out at the Cybelle's Pizza gig in 1991 (apparently Tre worked there) that's on You Tube for example. It could still easily be any other early show. But if it's something not already out there that would be great.
