I'm more an observer around here these days but just wanted to drop a post to say I'm looking forward to the new era, especially with Rob being back. Despite the trilogy not being their best work, I still think it maintains that signature Green Day energy throughout that I think has been lacking since, apart from the odd track like Bang Bang or Sugar Youth. Trilogy is probably also the last time that I didn't have issue with the sound of Billie's vocals.

From a UK fan's perspective, hoping that they'll finally return to play one of the big festivals like Reading and Leeds or Download for the first time ever. Notably they last played R&L in 2013 where they played Dookie in full. My dream would be them returning to the festival but playing both Dookie and AI in full next year along with the new stuff.

Just on how commercially successful the new music may or may not be, I honestly think that a large factor in that these days more than ever is how news worthy and visible you are. Blink have been news worthy for the last decade whereas Green Day haven't been for the most part. Members leaving / joining builds up hype, not to mention the amount of features other artists like blink do. The guys in Green Day seem content to keep themselves to themselves which is fine of course, but in 2023 you kind of always need to be out there and visible to remain in society's awareness. Take Dave Grohl for example, the dude absolutely loves being a rockstar and just seems to enjoy being out there and having fun with it, and the Foos are constantly doing shows.

Here in the UK at least GD are generally a solid bet to reach number one with their albums, and I'll certainly be doing my bit this time around to try get the new album there too! I skipped the Dookie anniversary stuff because I found the cost to be absolutely insane, but I'm hoping that any new merch will be much more affordable and of course just buying one CD rather than several as it was for Dookie 30 will save the £££.

THE TRILOGY RULES! Too bad they weren’t quite firing on all cylinders all together for some reason. The bass was tight. Jason White is amazing. Tré is the best. The songwriting is really great on a lot of Trilogy songs. Stay the Night, Fell for You, Dirty Rotten Bastards…

If the new album is like the Trilogy but the band firing on all cylinders it should be really great. Can’t wait! Razor blades. Cherry Bombs. Too Dumb to Die. Bouncing off the Wall. Chasing a Ghost. I don’t know! I’m firing on all cylinders tonight!

That’s a song from the trilogy sessions unless I’m mistaking it for a similar named one

I was disappointed when they didn't include dreamcatcher they should've replaced drama queen with that song

I remember after I heard their Christmas song "this time of year" in late 2015, being disappointed how different billie's voice sounded weak, extremely high, and whiny, that made me less excited when they announced the new album which would later be titled "revolution radio" but then they released bang bang and I thought wow he's still got it.

Not to beat a dead horse. But I feel like it should also be mentioned that with or without insurance, a visit to the doctor goes from hundreds - thousands of dollars at once. Meanwhile with a band at the least you're spending $15 on a CD if you're into buying physical stuff, and hundreds if you're buying merch and concert tickets. And that's if you're a diehard fan.

I can't imagine equating something as serious as someone performing surgeries and helping cure illnesses to freaking music.

Do we have any idea who produced OEB ??

It reminds me of classic green day from AI and 21stcbd era.

I'm so stoked if they're going that direction

But it's free for me @Sheenius and @Khaleesi.

It’s not free, it comes out of your paycheck. You pay for it in higher taxes and many people still need supplemental private insurance. Not saying universal healthcare isn’t a great thing but it’s neither perfect nor free

Nah I know but I still think it's way better tho.
Anyway that's not relevant with this thread.

I hope everyone understood my earlier comment as a little tongue in cheek (and goodness knows I meant no offense by it). Yes the band aren’t literally life saving surgeons. But as someone who has dealt with a lot of mental illness, Green Day’s music has been nothing short of therapeutic for me. It’s given me a space to question and deal with my gender and sexuality, I’ve made friendships I probably wouldn’t have had otherwise, and has both given me some of the best times of my life and occasionally the will to go on.

But of course my investment in it is more emotional than financial.

I am with you in this one. The comparison is really absurd. Like my good friend Max Payne said: "everything is a cliché until it happens to you"

I have traveled around the world, met amazing people who I can call my friends, I got laid, I escaped suicide, and I have really healthy and long relationship with someone because this band. Call me what you want, I don't care. Music is important to me as the air I breathe. It makes you think, it gives you confort and dispair, a shelter and a drain. It really helps at a level no medical personnel can do.

I can't imagine how void life would be without music. Nothing can top it.
