Just read on Twitter it was officially the shooting of the music video for their first single.

It is just a random fan

Nuclear Family would’ve been a good single too

I wasn't a fan of the way uno was produced guitars sound diluted,  all the echo effects, on billie's voice, can't believe rob cavallo thought that was good enough to release but they were under time constraints and billie probably wasn't the funnest guy to be around at the time so I won't judge him too harshly

I prefer Oh Love to Jesus of Suburbia.  I'll see myself to the blasphemy thread... :)

I do think Stay the Night would have been the best choice for a first single though.

Is the song called American dream?

I don't think any of those tracks would've been as commercially successful as Oh Love honestly

Green Day fans maybe would've preferred them as lead singles but in terms of more casual fans or mainstream audiences, I absolutely think Oh Love was the best choice. Ik most people probably don't agree with me on that

im-going-to-sort-of-disagree.gif

A slow and plodding song that doesn’t really go anywhere just made for a boring choice. Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Kill the DJ, Let Yourself Go all would’ve been better choices. I don’t mind Oh Love in the context of the album but as a song I prefer the shorter radio edit. Whether or not any of them would’ve been more successful it’s tough to say, but I don’t see how having something a little more high energy could’ve hurt them. But by 2012 rock was on the wane anyway so I bet the difference would’ve been negligible to the trilogy’s ultimate fate (Billie Joe’s substance abuse issues being the larger factor)

I wish! I did work at Warner though from 2004-2006. Good times!

That’s pretty cool! Did you ever get to see the band during that time?

I know you interviewed Mike sometime after that. Great interview btw.

3/4 of the band's biggest hits from the 00's were BOBD, WMUWSE and 21 Guns. These were all slower singles. If you wanted a successful single, it makes perfect sense to release a song like Oh Love first, it's definitely the only song from Uno that even remotely resembles those kinds of songs. American Idiot was the only fast paced song to get to the level of  success of those tracks. KYE, and even Holiday, the other fast singles (that were actual properly promoted as there was practically no promotion for 21CB singles after KYE and 21 Guns) weren't as big of hits compared to the other hits on their respective albums

Again, I'm only talking about in terms of commercial success. If we're talking about which song would be best for the more hardcore fanbase, then yeah there's a strong argument to make that Oh Love was a poor choice. Idk if it was even the band who chose Oh Love as the first single or if it was the label behind it

Yeah and first singles are not really for the hardcore fan base. It’s to promote the album to a larger audience.

Bang bang was pretty awesome as the first single I'm shocked revolution radio or still breathing  wasn't the first single because bang bang was pretty intense the subject matter the video but I respect the hell out of that decision

I do have to say it is super cool of them to reach out to fans for this when it’s the easiest thing to hire extras in LA. They clearly wanted fans as extras

They'd have to pay extras. 🤣

But also the amount of enthusiasm wouldn't be there. Would look like the Kill the DJ video. LOL

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this yet, but they're no longer asking for your name and address when you go to fill out the wake up call. I wonder if the people who got to put in their addresses will get something in the mail.

Like the empty FOAM vinyl sleeve that one dude got and that's how the track list got out into the media? 😆

Like I said, depending on what type of shot it is it’s possible they won’t even hear it.  Film shoots are nothing like watching the final product and they’ll probably all have to sign NDAs anyway

I'm pretty sure if there's a band performance portion that there will be audio playback. There has to be.  What they might do is use the in-ear monitors for the band. But then the crowd could be out of sync... except for Tre's drums keeping them in time, cause he wouldn't be pretending to hit them. LOL

PS. I work in the film industry and I make music, so I'm just speaking from experience. Not claiming to know what's happening.

I love how much of a production a music video is for them. 5 PM to 3 AM!?

When I saw Gaslight Anthem a few weeks they just told us during the show they'd be filming a music video and they played a song twice and filmed it on a handheld camera. It took all of 15 minutes, haha.

LOL That's a super short shoot day. And there's no way that's the whole music video. Any shots of just the band or singles of each member would be shot a different day most likely. My music video was a 12 hour shoot on day 1 to get everything with the crowd and the roller derby skaters, then day 2 was 8 hours of just the band.

I'm hoping this video will not be the first from the new album.

I remember the stunning videos we used to get. Either just the band playing or telling a story.

Know Your Enemy with the amazing ending with the fire  behind the band. The stories told in 21st C,  Bang Bang, 21Guns & the scary Troubled Times. There were so many between AI, 21st & RevRad.

Also, the doc's detailing the making of videos AI, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and 21Guns.

I saw them countless times during that era (and The Network), but I always had to get tickets the regular way! The only thing I got for free was a ticket to Storytellers!

Storytellers was awesome. I remember watching that on tv back in the day.

My question how will the verse melody sound? Will it be more modern, or will billie go for his old school snotty pissed off style of singing?
