Love Is For Losers reached that level or had that magic touch for me. Which is why it bugs me to no end that it was a solo project rather than a proper Green Day album.

Part of me likes that it was a side project, both because it feels more special to the die hard fans, and also because I love that it's all Billie, but anytime I hear LIFL (the song), it kills me that no one in the general public knows it. I truly think that could have charted well (at least in the rock/alternative charts) if it had just been promoted.

I also think so, unless punk rock in general gets a revival again. But if we look at the Best Rock Grammy nominees, there are a lot of bands which are way more commercially present right now than GD I'm afraid.

Green day might win a Grammy with their new album  considering how new music is so shit these days..  They might not have a lot of competition.

Just throw out a beautiful ballad out there and viola, we have a grammy

I could see GD winning a Grammy again. Look how many artists win at the tail end of their career. Lots of times not even for their best material, but just because the voters want to reward them for having a long career.

Let’s be careful to not get too hyped up about this, despite the early indications we have that it could be good.

I was told, however, “it’s a great record.”

Did anything change in the intention of putting out that side project?

I cant remember too far back but were you told a few years ago that Foam was a bad record?

If they continue with the strategy from the trilogy to foam this will hold true

If theyre actually in Oceanway with Rob though then this should atleast be a solid record. Doesn’t mean they’ll win a grammy but they should atleast be at the award ceremony this time. But given the amount of time its been since their last nomination and given their history they always have a chance to win.

Yeah so if they chart with a song like that then its a slam dunk. They need a rockin single too though. With AI you had a good contrast with those singles - AI, Holiday and BOBD

21cb you had KYE and 21 guns - both charted extremely well.

they need to dominate the Alternative charts and rock charts with the rocking tune and then sweep into the top 40 with the tune that creates contrast on the album.

GD at their best had the reach that they had because they diversified their sound and got played across several radio stations regardless of their stylistic differences.

I wasn't given this type of opinion for FOAM. I have no reason to doubt the person who said this.

If they’re connected to the band, why would they ever say anything negative about their record? Or even their friends’ record.

Might not be so much that they would say something negative, as much as not necesarily *highlighting* or *emphasizing* how good something in particular is, i.e. big praise of a record as opposed to the absence of that, if you catch my drift.

Thing is, I think superfan expectations for the new record are sky-high and frankly quite likely to be dashed, at least for many here on GDC. That said, after FOAM, the wider public’s expectations (by which I mean casual fans & listeners) are reasonably low, so I feel comfortable saying the album is very likely to get a lot of good press and reception by alternative rock / punk fans, which I’m happy about, even if some on here (perhaps even myself) will end up disappointed.

However, whilst only the final album will tell the full story, they appear to have put a lot of effort and care into the new record and I think we’ll be able to hear that, one way or another.

So it's not an amazing record but only "great" ??

The thing is that it's almost impossible to put out a worse record than Father Of All...

I'm extcited to hear that 'they really upped their game this time' (both the band and production).

I'm seeing this record as a punk rock album written by the guys who did Revolution Radio, Love is for Losers, and Money Money 2020 II - produced by the guy who did most of Green Day's best albums and mixed by my favourite mix engineer.

Of course it's not another American Idiot, but I still have no reason to doubt that it's at least 'great' at a minimum. One divisive record and a few songs that were done during a global pandemic aren't going to convince me otherwise.

Same!

The gasoline that lit the creative juices for Love is for Losers is so reminiscent of Gloria, Stay the Night, Fell for You, Stop Drop and Roll, Mother Mary and maybe even Dream Catcher.

I love the lyrics from the songs of that ghost he’s been chasing of the one that got away. I hope that inspiration/muse makes a lot of appearances on the new record. That well of inspiration is gold. The gift that keeps on giving. I hope they use that fuel to inspire this new Green Day era.

If 1981 really is the first single then I’m really worried because I wasn’t impressed like even in the slightest. I hope the studio version is better than the live version.

Overall I don’t really have much hope in this album which sucks because they’re my favorite band. But the trilogy was a mess, Revolution Radio was half good and FOAM has 2 songs I still revisit.

They can still surprise me but I’m really scared they won’t. I’d be more impressed if they went the direction of One Eyed Bastard because that song smacked. 1981 is kinda dogshit.

maybe I not allowed to say It here, but a new song resembles Holiday

I thought the same. Hopefully it‘s more than just great. They really need a banger this time!

do we know that 1981 is really a song from the upcoming LP?

i know we got the youtube teasers etc, but maybe its a song they dropped during recording process and it wont be on the actual tracklist?
