Popular Post PluckyJokerhead Posted July 17, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 17, 2023 Feels like it could be this record's Know Your Enemy - not in sound, but in that it's a straight forward catchy song they can play live and easily get people singing along. Sonically it's more Murder City but you catch my drift. It's a repetitive chorus sure but I've had it in my head for the past two hours, and overall structure with the prechorus and bridge feels so much more fleshed out than FOAM stuff even though it's just a two minute song. Plus Mike and Tre as a rhythm section are out here fucking killing it, ever since that teaser I've been dying to hear those tasty Dirnt major scales in the full song 10

And power pop Green Day is my favorite Green Day. No one minds that the chorus of Static Age is repetitive, it’s a tight little power pop song like this one 13 1

DookieLukie Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Here we go again. Two insulting comments for voicing that the song wasn’t amazing. Can’t wait for 3 months from now when the “1981 is overrated” takes start happening from the same people going after me for me opinion.

He had a point even if you didn't like how he formed his opinion. No need to be defensive. It is just a band and it is just a song. Noone is personally attacking you. here Just enjoy the new music. 2
M1KEY Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Clearly every song title on the new album will be a year. 3 1
That Dude Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I'd put this song in B tier. It's a good, solid track. Could it be a hit? Mmmmm....I don't know. Possibly.
Popular Post Little Boy Named Booze Posted July 17, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 17, 2023 Oh I didn't said the most important thing and @Liam can confirm cause he was here too. But Billie said before playing Time of Your Life "what an amazing crowd you are Québec, VIVE LE QUEBEC, and don't worry we are coming back" So maybe already for the next tour? I hope it's gonna be an arena tour. Because the true fans are here! In a festival it's just fucking everybody. 7

I can see it getting old if it's the only thing we have for a while, but tbh it's still an overall catchy track imo. 2
localinsomniac Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 So how does everyone think this plays out? We had #1972 teasers, we had #not1972 teasers. We had a hint dropped referencing Saviors. My not fully serious hypothesis- a quadruple album where each is themed to an era. Kind of bites off Weezer's SZNS, but maybe the 'Saviors' thing ties into one of those themes somehow. 1

He does that three or four times during the song. And one time he touches his in-ear-monitor quite long while singing. It definitely looks like he had some technical problems during the song. Everything went wrong during this song. The voice, the sound. He stops playing guitar, touches his ear. Everything was strange. BUT WE WERE BANGING OUR HEADS LIKE IT WAS 1981 🤟🤟 12

Really curious about what the promotional timeline will look like. this! GDs world sometimes ticks differently, but in todays world with everyone having short attention spans you dont do promo and single(s) for many months, so i really dont know how the promo will turn out the new song is now released for the public, the studio version should be released very soon (july/august), it makes no sense to have crappy recordings of the new song without the studio verion but if we get the first song in july/august, and the album is rumoured to be released in 2024 (january maybe then??), the promo would last from summer through fall until winter, minimum 6 months of promotion unless the album wont come out in 2024 but in 2023 👀 it would make more sense now since the new era kinda officially started yesterday 7
Jankowski576 Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I think I’ve figured out my comparison - the song is a 99 revolutions, back in the USA, and C&V love child 2

They easily can drop a song/video with no description of anything than just “listen our brand new song” and not necessary being the first single or announcing the album yet. I’ve noticed a couple of bands promoting their next era in this way so could be a possibility since the album is due to out early next year. 1
Popular Post Flynn Posted July 17, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 17, 2023 None of the accounts have posted anything about the show yet, they can't completely ignore the fact they played a new song right? I wonder if they weren't even meant to play it early and they just went fuck it, it all just seems so weird because again they basically did it like it was just any other song since it was just thrown in the middle of the setlist. 7

Yes exactly what I thought. And its weird they didnt play it two days before. Even when he screamed „this next song is called 1981“. On the other hand they can totally ignore it because they dont do any interviews right now. I didnt even see an article posting about it. Maybe they‘re taking a few scenes of the performance for a music video. I‘m really excited what the next few days will bring 5
Popular Post BrendanL Posted July 17, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 17, 2023 Two random festival shows after 5 months off are the last place I expected them to pull out The Grouch after 14 years, Stuart after 7 years, Stuck With Me, and a new song. I’m happy that they appear to feel more comfortable ripping through some deep cuts in front of a (mostly) casual audience, but I wonder what changed in their mindset? It intrigues me after so many years of copy-and-paste setlists. 16

Christian's Inferno! Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Didn't they play like a ton of unheard songs during 21CB era too? Ik there were a ton of trilogy songs played live before they released on the trilogy. And I'm pretty sure a lot of these songs were played like a while before they ended up even announcing the trilogy, like a year before or something. And even Dreamcatcher, Olivia, Oh Girl were unreleased songs played live around that time too, right? I don't see this song being a lead single, it just doesn't sound like something you'd release as a lead single, but then again Green Day's lead single choices have been weird. But this doesn't sound like the type of song you'd introduce a new album or a new era with imo. 3
Otis Big Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 One Eyed Bastard was waaaay better. Not really feeling this song tbh 4

Maybe they just wanted to play one of the new songs and this was a good one to try because it was relatively easy to play, short and catchy and won’t tax a festival audience too much. 11
Popular Post Little Boy Named Booze Posted July 17, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 17, 2023 I mean it didn't bothered me 🤷♂️ I love new song now i wonder what will happen between now and the next show in 2 months. What's fun is at least I'm not gonna wait another 6 years to see them again. 8
