THREAT LEVEL MIDNIGHT, WE HAVE A NEW SONG, YESSSS 🚨🚨🚨

But could it be that Billie hat problems with the tuning of his guitar? I saw two videos of the song and both soundef a bit out of tune and after a minute or so, Billie stops playing to check his guitar 🤔

GDFan2019 finally being correct is not something I thought I'd wake up to, no offense to him of course. I need to listen to this asap.

Since they played it tonight, maybe they'd drop some news about it tomorrow?

And someone had a really good idea in the 1981 megathread on Reddit. Like the 3 acts of 21CB!!!!

wow what a surprise, you never know what GD are about to do :D

so imo the release of 1981 as first lead single should be imminent ? i am sure they dont want no official audio but only shitty smartphone videos out there for their new song

the question is, will we get first news for the new album? a full tracklist? release date or just sth like "new album coming soon/2024"? and what about a tour?

as for the song: i only listened to one youtube video, did billie struggle to hit the right notes? and while i think its a cool short song with a cathy lyric in the chorus, its really not what i expected them to release after foam and the long wait, but with a good promotion i could see this song getting a lot of playtime on radio and social media, and that would be a nice move of them (if it works), release a short good catchy first single, get all the attention, release a fucking banger as second single 😄

His vocals definitely didn't do him justice but if you leave it aside it is a very catchy tune. I can't wait to hear the studio version.

I remember the same thing happening for 21cbd, trilogy and revrad for certain songs. During revrad the most difficult one initially was 'Still Breathing'. I think it has more to do with finding his live voice for a specific song. Quickly going through the previously shared video, aside from clear aging, I think his voice sounds pretty good for the other songs. I'm using 21 guns as a benchmark since that would be the more difficult one and while it doesn't sound as amazing as back in 2009/2010 (duh) it's definitely still good.

Edit:

I'm now listening to Jesus of Suburbia, which is always a highlight for me, and again sounding pretty good this far into the set. So I'm definitely on the side of him finding his live voice for 1981. It'll be alright before they start a full tour. There's absolutely going to be try-out shows before then so plenty of time to find it.

EDIT: OK it sounds so much better in this version:

So I guess the Album is called 1981, and will be released in 2031.

Since I'm in Australia I'll be patiently waiting to see if anything goes live unexpectedly tonight (since Spotify likes to do that). Although I also have a sneaking suspicion we won't get anything else for a while after this, hope I'm wrong.

After hearing the song, I’m afraid we have another album like Revolution Radio.
It sounds like classic Green Day and I wish they can do better.

I m confident in the boys so I will not establish anything now, and I’ll wait to hear the studio version.

(But I’m scared)

Also after learning and playing this song a bit, I feel like this song specifically is the song Billie was referring to when he made the comparison to Letterbomb here. Although might just be me speculating.

Also remember theories about this song being Teaser #6, confirmed that they're two different songs. Or you could make the argument this was an earlier version of the song, but they definitely feel different just sound similar, can't wait to find out!

Green Day have been making 2 minute songs on basically every album they've ever made. Just cause this song might be 2 minutes, doesn't mean the rest of the songs will be. And even if they are, if they're banger songs it doesn't really matter imo

Yeah plus they're already confirmed to have a long song in the album from the teasers. Edit, not confirmed but majorly hinted towards.

Wait was this video always named New Song "1981"? Or was it just changed after we got the live performance? Cause this video is over a year old

Yeah you are right in what you’re saying in terms of Green Day having 2 min tracks. I am fully aware, I have listened to them for 2 decades now.. but not all the albums are full of 2 min songs like FOAM! I was meant to say / I am referencing FOAM that I don’t want an album of 2min songs..

I do quite like the years theory, and it wouldn't surprise me if the album was just called "YEARS" or something to that effect.

I can see some cringey "Green Day: 6 months to YEARS" promo focussing on the periods of time aspect.

It really wouldn't surprise me if this was a concept album if that is the route they're going down. Following the life of someone (or a group of people). It'll likely be deemed as 'political' again, but isn't all art political in some form?

My biggest worry is that people will see this as a rehash of American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown and it not be as good, and the general population will start to worry if 'modern Green Day' is just a one trick pony. I'd love to be wrong and this be an absolute banger of a record of course, but I'm gonna wait and see what officially gets released.

So this one is about MTV and the impact of music videos (IMHO). I bet every song has some kind of connection to a year having and impact on Billie/the band music/life journey.
