1972 project speculation thread

Yeah would be cool of they expand their running time again like 120-150 minutes.
Fall Out Boy are playing longer shows than ever I think. Would be a compromise for fans like us and casuals so they can stick to their greatest hits and put more deeper cuts.

By the way, who ended up being the "Secret Surprise Band" at the Golden Bull last night?

The original band probably cancelled and it was just a placeholder until another band was confirmed. Hopefully it was Max Creeps or The Bacon Brothers and not some guy with his laptop.

yeah, the setlist of green day is so boring.. only good setlist in the last couple of years was in metro chicago

sad that the best sets are only for the 1% that are lucky enough to get into impossibly small venues.

Let's say Green Day originally planned on an October 13th, 2023 release.    But their was a delay in the Cd and/or vinyl production, and they were kind of toying around in the studio for some OTHER project anyway.

October 13th, 2023 becomes January 5th, 2024.    January isn't quite the dead month for release it was before, it could work.

One thing I'd like to know is, is the 1972 title still in play? If it's not the album title anymore, is it at least the name of a song?

I don’t think it ever was the title. Like ever. I think they were just using all of 2022 to celebrate their 50th birthdays.

Wish we had some new Green Day to listen to in this nice summer weather.

Yeah but in that one teaser when they’re in the studio with CLA, Tré shouted, “1972 y’all!!!”

Maybe someone should start up one of those YouTube campaigns to pressure Green Day into a release. Like the “Tim Allen grunt every day until Tim Allen acknowledges this video” but instead something daily until Green Day releases a new song. @GDFan2019 you interested?

As much as I want new material, I want it to be ready when it comes out. I don’t want them to force it out prematurely because of fan pressure (as if they would cave to us like that). That being said, I do wish it were ready already.

This right here. If it takes another 2 years from today and it's worth the wait, good.

^^I thought the whole purpose of them being off Reprise is to release music how and when they want. Does this mean they have a new shitty contract that they regret signing?

Yes this doesn’t seem any different from the old deal despite everything they claimed they could now do

In a magazine interview early last year, Billie said 2023, so was it the label that pushed it into 2024?

Shame that this far into their career they are still this handcuffed.

Does that not depend on the circumstance or the contract with the record company.

If it's a band/ artist's debut album, or past sales have been poor, the record label would not want to release an album that coincides with a release from a well known and popular band/artist. Thereby affecting sales.

Whereas with GD being a very popular & well known band would if matter. Also, GD would want a say in a release date?

Unless, of course your intimating that the contract, with the record company, states they have the final say?

I remember reading about the early days when Lookout Records decided when GD EPs/LPs where released.

It fucking sucks to know even a band as famous and iconic as Green Day are screwed over by their record companies as well.

I can't find it but I remember a tiktok Florence Welch made where she basically revealed how shitty the studio execs of record companies are and even if you make an extremely popular song or record the singer and other creatives involved get very little money for it.

Between this, the third season of Owl House getting shortened + cancelled, the writer's strike,  and the Mattel exec who wanted to get rid of a pivotal scene in the new Barbie movie I'm really starting to hate executives.

On the one hand everybody complains about GD's marketing decisions, on the other hand everybody complains about the fact that GD can't put out music whenever they want. Guys, be happy that Warner has control about marketing and the release schedule 😅 I mean, the last album was a commercial flop, it's not such a big surprise that the label is interested in doing better this time (and hopefully it will)

Cheating on GDC with setlist.fm. again and seeing the variety in Bruce Springsteen's set.  Some songs stay the same, but there's plenty of audibles, and he is 1972 years old, 😄

This is the last time 😉 talking set list, but it's really frustrating. More than waiting on a 2029 Green Day album or whatever this thread is on about.   The world hates Trilogy and Foam.   Stupid world, horrible world, but whatever.    If they truly don't want to play them, okay.   That gives them 10 albums worth of songs to work with.  And the first two have no hits, and I'm good with Welcome to Paradise representing Early Green Day.   All we need next tour would be a Rev Rad song or two and then a cluster bomb of new songs.    Five is good, with one rotating out now and then.   Bada Bing bada boom /  guess I'll listen to Trilogy alone in my room

Be bop a lulu pace junkie, gonna headphone FOAM into my chrome dome.

I know we said they're not playing between July 16th and September 24th but it's getting late to announce shows for August...

Imagine if we get a single within that time!!!!
