That could be displaying lyrics but yeah it could also be recording software just as easily i guess.

On a side note, does anybody know what software the guys do use typically ?

They use Pro Tools, that's pretty much the industry standard. But tbh I would never hope that they ever start to record  and mix only on gear that was available in 1972, because the sound quality would be extremely bad in comparison to such sound masterpieces like 21st Century Breakdown

Analog sounds a lot better than digital.

Wasting Light by Foo Fighters is a prime example.

Stop Drop and Roll was all-8 track analog, and that came out pretty well. Wouldn't hate to see the Green Day name slapped on another record like that one.

GD typically, (at least with AI and 21CB), records to tape and dumps the tape into pro tools - best of both worlds.

I don't know about AI but 21cb was actually digital from what I was told.

They had considered tape but then switched away from this last minute I think.

I was part of that whole Q&A with Butch Vig and my understanding was the album was pretty much all done through pro tools.

As for AI where is the info about this being recorded on tape?

Drums and bass were recorded to tape

ok yeah that makes more sense thanks for linking that

The drums did have a really good warmer sound on 21cb. My dad was a pro drum tech for a multi-platinum band up here and he always talked highly of the drum sound on the record.

If Green Day decide to record with me, this is my setup:

 2014 Toshiba laptop

1995 PC microphone

Wave Studio (free version)

And they better bring some bass and drums with them or else they will have to do like me and improvise for rhythm sounds.

Line 6 Spider Amp. A cheap guitar pedal and that's really all we're going to need.

But again, Tre.  If you don't bring at least a bongo, we're going to end up with guitar picks being thrown Onto a computer desk and that will have to do for drums.

How mad would you guys be if nothing has been recorded or written as of today? Yikes.

I love your enthusiasm, but you really are grasping at straws at this point dude.

I mean, Billie could just fart and y'all would probably think it's some kind of hint towards the next album 😅

Too bad they're not those paper straws that disintegrate halfway through your meal

It’s a lot of ocean way and CLA mixing too. I assume AI was done the same way and I actually prefer that drum sound

Tre's sounds are usually really good.

Any time they don't sound really good it seems to fall in with some of the records with not so great production.

I think we can expect a return to more acceptable production with 1972. I'm excited for that.

It didn't come out today either?   Unless there's some surprises, the rest of this year looks pretty baron when it comes to full length albums.

This week, Serj Tankian released an EP that's alright, but that's about it.

As for full length albums, there's only 5 I am waiting to release, and they aren't that exciting either.

Sunny Days by Blink-182 or 1972 by Green Day?

Either way - 1000 out of 10.

After the 1972, I think it's time Mike Dirnt does a solo album.

You've heard of The Longshot, now it's time for....

Idk where you got your information. I know him personally and he told me his solo thing will be called „dirntl“ and promoshoot took place at the Münchener Oktoberfest with mike in a „dirndl“ thats why he thought it‘s a good idea to call it „dirntl“

Yes me too 😂 Idk where it was but in the „Last ride in“ Video there‘s a shot that looks like the Oktoberfest and DUI reminds me of it. So who knows 😂😂😂

I personally prefer the combination of both, because you can work much more precisely and cleaner with digital EQs

Ever used an SSL? :)

This reminds me there was an old Gearspace thread on the engineering and production of 21CB where Chris Dugan answered a bunch of questions about mics, preamps etc. I think it might be time to revive that when we finally get this record.

Still so excited to hear Green Day with proper production again. It's not a good idea to get hopes up after the last record but I'm genuinely thinking we're getting something close to 21CB in quality here; the longer they make me wait the higher my expectations get, let's hope it doesn't all come crashing down again

There will be 91 more pages of this nonsense before the album drops.

Dudemath strikes again!

Fine print:  This is only accurate if the new album drops in early May, prices and participation may vary. See Mike Dirnt for details.  Dude not responsible for anything that occurs anywhere ever.

Okay guys, now that they played their last show of the year, how long before we get any new 1972 information, teasers, etc.? We're just weeks away from the holiday season, and they'll most definitely be taking a much needed break for that.
