Lazy Bones, Dirty Rotten Bastards and Forever Now all do not mention the song title

That's what I meant.  Tre and Rev Rad are the only albums where all the song titles refer to a lyric.

All other Green Day albums have songs with titles that are not explicitly said.

So has anyone figured out what the title is referencing? Taken with the line "We don't care what the neighbors think," I see "Holy Toledo!" as an exclamation of some stodgy old conservative who doesn't approve of their neighbors' sexual activity. Try it in a sentence: "Holy Toledo, Edith, the neighbors are having one of those swinging parties again. They're definitely going to hell." I see this as a giant "fuck you" to the Jerry Falwells of the world (let's not forget he got a song too) who like to self-righteously condemn others for doing the same things they do hypocritically in secret. Maybe I am reading what I want to into it, but at any rate, I am here for this.

I think you're reading too much into it. It's a Billie mid-life crisis song lyrically.

I mean, he was singing about stuff like this well prior to midlife LOL, so I think this is just stuff he believes in.

Eventually, the band is going to need to leave a legacy, and it'll be a bit sad if the latter half of it is just middle aged men singing songs about partying like teenagers.

No one's going to remember those and I think they know it so they're taking liberties, not just lyrically but also reusing ideas etc.

Yeah, that's my only real complaint about the song. Luckily for me, I have always loved the band for the music, not the lyrics.

If the lyrics are great in the songs, it's just the cherry on top for me. That being said, it's not the case for most people and I wish the band would go back to writing about topics that actually matter like they did in their 30s.

I mean, FOAM talked about a lot of stuff that mattered. Graffitia is a song about police violence. What sucks is that the deeper meaning of the album got lost under horrible production (cough *claps* clough). And I have a feeling some of their deeper stuff ended up on the Network album when it should have been on FOAM. They obviously still have a lot to say. The music just needs to match. The music is getting better again, so if they put that deep writing to this kind of music it is going to be amazing. I can't wait for them to write stuff for themselves again. Not for the NHL, not for a movie, just what they want to say.

I wonder if their next album would be another rock opera about Covid and all the political unrest going on these past 2 years. Pollyanna had an uplifting message we all needed!!!

I don't know if "party" is the right word, but I am not even feeling like this is a "party" song. He has been singing about sex and drugs and essentially the hollowness of these things and looking for escape and not knowing what to do with oneself and hence turning to sex and drugs since Dookie. Also not sure what you mean by SD&R.

EDIT: I had a brain fart. You meant Stop Drop and Roll. That slipped out of my mind and I was thinking a strictly Green Day album.

I hate how horny Billie's voice in this song makes me. 🤣

he's clearly a man of culture

I mean, he has written a lot of deep stuff about the hollowness of sex and drugs as an escape, and I think that comes through here as well.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I get used to using abbreviations with fans so much that I completely forget that other people may not even be in the same headspace as me when I am writing 😂

I haven't seen a single negative comment about HOLY TOLEDO! yet.    Quick, someone who hates it tell how much you hate it!

Where's that YouTube guy that was so incredibly pissed off about how FOAM ruined his life or some shit. He will probably be happy to tell you how much he hates this song 😂
