Popular Post The Grohl
AHHHH! I was so pumped when I heard the news and I'm sooooo happy the song is a bop! Strong foxies vibes for sure! I think it's a pretty straightforward good time song and that's all it needs to be. I'm definitely picking up on the trilogy/FOAM vibes so this is definitely a winner. Can't tell if I like more than Pollyanna or not but Bravo Green Day 👏

Tre and Rev Rad are the only albums where all the song titles refer to a lyric. All other Green Day albums have songs with titles that are not explicitly said. Guest
So has anyone figured out what the title is referencing? Taken with the line "We don't care what the neighbors think," I see "Holy Toledo!" as an exclamation of some stodgy old conservative who doesn't approve of their neighbors' sexual activity. Try it in a sentence: "Holy Toledo, Edith, the neighbors are having one of those swinging parties again. They're definitely going to hell." I see this as a giant "fuck you" to the Jerry Falwells of the world (let's not forget he got a song too) who like to self-righteously condemn others for doing the same things they do hypocritically in secret. Maybe I am reading what I want to into it, but at any rate, I am here for this.
Guest
Also I feel like this is the perfect song to make that "Oh Love 2.0" video I pitched before. Really hoping we get some video for this.

It's a Billie mid-life crisis song lyrically.

"Holy Toledo, Edith, back in my day..." would work as a line for grampa Simpson 2

If the lyrics are great in the songs, it's just the cherry on top for me. That being said, it's not the case for most people and I wish the band would go back to writing about topics that actually matter like they did in their 30s. Eventually, the band is going to need to leave a legacy, and it'll be a bit sad if the latter half of it is just middle aged men singing songs about partying like teenagers.

No one's going to remember those and I think they know it so they're taking liberties, not just lyrically but also reusing ideas etc.

I mean, FOAM talked about a lot of stuff that mattered. Graffitia is a song about police violence. What sucks is that the deeper meaning of the album got lost under horrible production (cough *claps* clough). And I have a feeling some of their deeper stuff ended up on the Network album when it should have been on FOAM. They obviously still have a lot to say. The music just needs to match. The music is getting better again, so if they put that deep writing to this kind of music it is going to be amazing. I can't wait for them to write stuff for themselves again. Not for the NHL, not for a movie, just what they want to say.

I wonder if their next album would be another rock opera about Covid and all the political unrest going on these past 2 years. Pollyanna had an uplifting message we all needed!!!

Lyrically this song could have been so much more if it were a tad longer and was written about something that mattered. Hell, I'd go as far as saying it could have been one of the best singles they ever put out, but it is what it is. I remember in the 21CB era, before the trilogy was even a thought, Billie spoke about where the band wanted to go next and mentioned an album that was more acoustic but had all the green day power behind it. I hated the idea at the time being the stupid kid that I was, but looking back now I can't help but imagine how cool that actually could have been, and I kind of wish I was in the alternate universe where that actually got released. 6 minutes ago, GDFan2019 said: I wonder if their next album would be another rock opera about Covid and all the political unrest going on these past 2 years. The Black Parade for example wasnt really political at all and had some really deep, meaningful, honest and personal songs that hold up just as well today as they did the day the album dropped.

Don't forget, this is in the movie (which I had never heard of previously, but seems to fit what I see is the subject) so possibly has been written specifically for it and may well have no bearing at all on what Billie is writing about currently.
Popular Post DookieLukie
Stop Drop and Roll was also heavily satirical and a serious commentary on the dangers of party life. None of those songs glorify partying and that lifestyle.

I don't know if "party" is the right word, but I am not even feeling like this is a "party" song. He has been singing about sex and drugs and essentially the hollowness of these things and looking for escape and not knowing what to do with oneself and hence turning to sex and drugs since Dookie. Also not sure what you mean by SD&R. EDIT: I had a brain fart. You meant Stop Drop and Roll. That slipped out of my mind and I was thinking a strictly Green Day album.
