Any chance to us see this song live?

I hope so! We can start a petition?

I don’t need to see Pollyanna live and it got played every show this year even though it was just a nice one off single… hopefully the last Hella Mega tour of pushing that song so hard was the last of it. Hopefully there will be a set list shakeup. Or a small club tour with surprising set lists.

I love Holy Toledo 100x more than the other singles. Although I appreciate them all Holy Toledo rules.

If they've moved on from Pollyanna maybe there's a chance they'll switch it out with this one and we'll hear it at the future shows starting with SuperBowl Fest and the festivals in Atlanta and Tampa.  Apart from that I'm expecting the same Hella Mega setlists.  I'm pretty much expecting that setlist for the rest of their career

Really hope they switch it up and play Holy Toledo but it doesn’t sound as generic/basic and easy singalongable as Pollyanna. Although I thought it was contradictory “everything is going to be alright/don’t let me down” I think most people thought it was a positive singalong. End of pandemic anthem. Although I really don’t think the pandemic is at the end but that’s a different thead/topic.

If they stop evolving and surprising us I am going to be really sad. The unchanging Hella Mega setlist was hella disappointing but it was what it is… A giant machine/money maker with no room for surprises or mistakes. The Hit Machine of Green Day Hella Mega. I would love to go to Hella Mega but if that’s all Green Day is going to do that is heartbreaking. No surprises or fun or adventure or risks. I love the adventurousness of Green Day. They dropped FOAM as if it didn’t exist even though it’s their newest record. And I can’t believe how much I miss the Trilogy they dropped that too. FOAM honestly I don’t find it that terrible it wasn’t on the set list just surprising but it is a serious letdown that the Trilogy has been dropped for years now. I hope it makes a huge comeback. Just casually dropping Trilogy songs on random Green Day set lists.

Holy Toledo would be an amazing awesome surprise live. It’s new, it’s unexpected, and yet it kinda has a Trilogy/FBHT vibe. It’s super awesome and new and exciting.

I hope they still do surprises with awesome set lists and fun small club shows. If not… Long live the Longshot. Please for the love of all that is holy and good I hope the Longshot releases new stuff and tours again if Green Day is just gonna be a giant stadium act with the same set list forever. I hope they have enough in them to do both. I hope this is just another byproduct of the pandemic and the world basically being on hold or being super cautious.

Didn’t the singer guy of Green Day say there would be a FBHT show? Or teased? Ugh I miss that guy teasing us on IG.

Right now I’m expecting the Hella Mega set list forever and for them to play it safe and boring. The past year has been such a let down. No surprises and no fun. I miss the Network. I miss Fink. I miss the Longshot. I miss Billie Joe’s weirdness on IG. It’s like a ghost town for Green Days fans (for the most part).

I am so desperate I would be absolutely surprised and delighted if the play Holy Toledo live.

If Green Day are going to become rock’n’roll dinosaurs for the masses I hope the Longshot and Dead Mermaids and the Coverups etc make it interesting, meaningful and fun for those that really care about the band and the fun and meaningfulness of everything.

I hope Holy Toledo is the great new hope/clue that Green Day are up to exciting new stuff.

Maybe after the Hella Mega Tour, they will start doing shows on their own, leaving time for more songs in the set list!!! I always wanted to hear a live version Dirty Rotten Bastards!!! Did Green Day, Weezer, and Fall Out Boy divide the running time of each of their set lists equally?

I think it was nearly equal but Green Day got the longest set time but still short considering their vast catalog and keeping with the same same same set list the whole tour.

Green Day did get a longer times slot (from what I remember).

Seriously hope Green Day start doing smaller shows again (when it’s safe to do so) and switches up the set lists at least a little bit.

So here’s my question: I thought Green Day had negotiated a new deal to release music in any way they want but it looks more like they’ve left them completely.  Green Day are self releasing their latest singles (they are all copyrighted to Green Day), yet obviously Warner still has ownership of their back catalogue including new releases like the BBC Sessions (copyrighted Warner), and a portion of ticket sales and merch. I got an email from Green Day official copyrighted to Warner that promotes ticket sales to the Shaky Knees Festival, a sale on all merch called an “All By Myself” sale and Oakland Coffee gift packs of all things, but no mention of Holy Toledo 🤔 Also there have been no physical copies sold of the last four singles.

So what exactly is their deal now? Will Warner do no promotion of their new music going forward? If so, how will Green Day do it beyond social media posts that only fans follow?

Does Warner get a piece of Oakland Coffee sales? What’s their involvement in this separate company? They had to license the BBC Sessions I guess for the special 7” is it anything more than that?

Most of all, I wonder what it will mean both for the release and promotion of new music and the potential release of any more old stuff that’s in the vault. Is that all Warner’s to put out now? Do Green Day control any of that?

When do you guys think we’ll see the next studio album? And do you think it will be another short one like FOAM (10 songs, 26 minutes) or another long one like Nimrod (18 songs, 49 minutes) and American Idiot (13 songs, 57 minutes)?

Not just Holy Toledo, but Stab You In The Heart!!!! Someone commented on the video that this is proof that FOAM was just an album thrown together to fulfill their contract!!!

It’s not proof of anything. He recycles bits and pieces of older songs all the time to make new ones. It’s common with songwriters.

I suspect it’s part of the reason he’s not keen on opening the vault and releasing too many unreleased songs because he likely mines a lot of them for new material but once the songs are out there he can’t do that as easily.

Remember when the RevRad tracklist leaked and we all thought it seemed fake? Especially because Troubled Times and Too Dumb to Die were taken from Trilogy song lyrics (99 Revolutions and Sex Drugs & Violence)

Billie Joe has written 108695787 songs and is in 7569 bands/projects and kind of stitches together the best bits he likes in other songs and ideas from demos/projects. I didn’t even know this These Paper Bullets songs existed. A casual listener definitely would not likely know. And even knowing about the song it’s like the stuff he lifts from himself he makes into something even better… Like the ideas weren’t ready to come out of the oven the first time around so we got half baked treats. They’re good but could be better and he doesn’t give up on good stuff.

The guy is so good he rips himself off while everyone else is getting sued for ripping off others.

Or the guy is so good he’s in competition with himself in a league of his own.

I remember reading an interview about 21CB where Billie said he wrote about 45 songs

Weren't there originally about 80 songs for the Trilogy (no pun intended on the 80)

I'm fine with them taking parts of songs from side projects and re-using them for Green Day songs because most people aren't gonna hear those side project songs

I seem to remember Billie say he wrote "close to 100 songs" for the trilogy but I don't remember where

Worth noting that that interview was in October 2007, before they started the recording process in January 2008, so more writing probably took place between that time and/or during the recording process

And sometimes he goes the other way, like reusing Kill the DJ for Jerry Falwell’s Pool Party. But then he probably assumed not many people heard Kill the DJ either.

Yeah that was my point. A lot of those songs were merged together into the songs we all know and love! For example, State of Shock, the line, “I’m singing out the alphabet” was reused for Angel Blue. And getting back to 21CB, if I’m not mistaken, I seem to remember Murder City (formerly known as Desperate) was recorded at the last minute, was it about a month or 2 before the album release? And didn’t we speculate that Pollyanna was the unreleased song “Beautiful” that Butch Vig mentioned?

I wonder if we’ll ever get Green Day versions of Longshot songs, like Love is for Losers

If the anwser was yes, we'd get no Longshot in the first place

God bless the Longshot and FBHT for covering Trilogy songs. If that’s where those songs live now that Green Day doesn’t play them I hope there’s a lot more Longshot and FBHT shows coming up. Likely (hopefully) Longshot shows since Billie Joe seems to really suit playing those types of songs with the Longshot. When was the last time there was a FBHT show?

Fuckkkkkkk I miss the Longshot.

In answer to the question at hand and my two cents on the subject: I very much doubt Green Day would ever cover the Longshot although the Longshot is amazing and the songs are full of heart and fire. The Longshot is like a special little club of awesomeness and broken-hearted sweetness. I wouldn’t mind if Green Day stayed away from Longshot songs. Green Day has gone off in a different direction. The Longshot is its own thing and borrowed the best of GD/BJA songwriting for a beautiful project. The Longshot is so good and the songs are 🔥

The Hella Mega Headliner has no room for FOAM or the Trilogy doubtful they’d cover the Longshot. Who knows though? Crazier things have happened and probably will continue to happen. I hope after the pandemic they start being surprising again. It’s been real sucky lately and pretty boring for almost a year on so many aspects of so many things in life and in fandom.
