The Oakland Coffee site will be posting behind the scenes content and live clips throughout the tour. So this is basically their fan club now and instead of posting this content to their socials, you’ll have to sign up at Oakland Coffee to get it.

Not sure how I feel about this.

My fam actually likes Oakland Coffee -- I've gotten it from time to time.  I'm not a coffee drinker -- strictly tea for me.   But they have a good product and I guess they have a specific platform for selling it.  So I get it on one hand, but I guess I'm struggling with the consumer manipulation at play here.  Is it just me?

Nope, not just you. But with all the problems in the world, I can’t get worked up over this. I guess they figure if they’re gonna become corporate sellouts to a sponsor, better it be their own company, one who’s values are their own, and invest back in their own business at the same time.  Also, it is a solution to the social media love/hate relationship by moving content to a site they control and eliminating haters and trolls that can comment elsewhere.  I can see it being to their benefit.

My biggest problem is the one you mentioned — I’m a tea drinker. I buy an occasional box of pods from Oakland Coffee for guests and to have the rare cup because it happens to be really good coffee. But I don’t buy enough to be a subscriber. So for what is basically their fan club now, doing everything Idiot Nation did, it is not enough to be a Green Day fan. To get access to every perk and feel really special, you have to be a coffee drinking Green Day fan.  Seems unfair and arbitrary for a fan club.  So I’ll just have to sign up for free and take whatever free stuff they offer to the lower classes like me.

It's a payment thing or it's free?

There’s an option to sign up for free or purchase a monthly coffee subscription. You get more stuff with the subscription (like the chance to purchase the exclusive vinyl releases) but there’s a free option.

Am I wrong or they didn’t written that is necessary to be a sub to get the special content? I guess it goes in the Oakland coffee house section like the vault thing so should be free 

anyway I totally like this, like sharing with fans their moments, love it

My wife is a subscriber. She loves how easy it is to customize each order and their customer service reps are easy to contact if you have any questions. Also, the customer service reps will do everything they can to make sure you are happy with the service. They helped my wife get free shipping on all of her coffee orders by customizing the shipment frequency. Currently she receives a shipment of 4 boxes of pods every 3 months.

Its not clear at all, but reading this again it sounds like you have to be a subscriber to get any Green Day content:

Their coffee is insanely pricey. I want to try it but I'm not spending $60 per month on it for probably some sparse GD content.

I was gonna subscribe just so I could get the exclusive vinyls but it wasn't worth it with the shipping fees to Canada. I've subscribed now that there is a little more value with the behind the scenes footage. Once the BBC vinyls are all out i'll probably cancel. It would be nice if you could just pay a small access fee to the club and still be able to get stuff like the vinyls and exclusive vault footage without ordering coffee.

Yes exactly! I was happy to pay $1.99 to view the Coffeehouse episode why can’t they do that with this?

I am getting closer and closer to subscribing and being a Father of All Dark Roast devotee. I want the Green Day content and I do appreciate a Billie Joe coffee. I need to win the lottery to be a Green Day fan… Dang it’s pricey to get the exclusive fan stuff I want… Especially now with the lack of social media content on the official accounts. I wish there could be both but wait and see I guess. The tour hasn’t even officially started yet. Unfortunately in light of the way things have been going I’m not expecting much from the official accounts.

With lack of them on social media and BJ's little rant last night about "putting away the phones and your Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, etc...We don't need that shit"!  I don't have high hopes on getting anything from any of them but especially Billie.  🥺

He has ranted about people having their phones out at shows during previous tours (Longshot included). That was nothing new.

Me neither. They seem to have all but abandoned social media and now with this Oakland Coffee thing we know where all this stuff is gonna go that used to be free

I love coffee but I find their coffee way too strong and it would be ridiculously expensive to have a subscription sent to the UK. Bit peeved I can't get the vinyls, etc without

So you have to subscribe to get the content? That's some BS. I do like their coffee and don't mind picking it up when I have some extra money, but I don't have the means nor the interest to subscribe right now and that's coming from an avid coffee drinker.

This seems dumb , I don't drink coffee and if I did I wouldn't be buying imported expensive stuff. Like, I guess it's better than some big corporate sponsor but I dunno why they'd want to associate the band with coffee to this extent? Associating the band with an expensive luxury product/subscription for well off middle class types that it's likely the majority of their fans aren't rich enough for, it's just weird and doesn't seem like great marketing. Just makes them seem middle aged and out of touch.

If they want to boost their coffee sales a coffee promotion with a Green Day element seems like it would make more sense no? Green Day makes coffee cooler but coffee doesn't make Green Day cooler lol. It seems like it's the wrong way round, as if coffee is the main thing and Green Day is the side thing. 

Hopefully the free subscription gets us something or they'll post stuff on social media as well? That would be cool, otherwise can't see anything exciting about this.

Well, that's really cool and really disappointing at the same time. It's awesome about the behind the scenes stuff and I really want to see more of that, but to attach it to a coffee subscription just makes me feel alienated. I can only drink decaf because caffeine makes me incredibly sick and I only do that sparingly anyway because I don't care for the taste anyway. Isn't it enough to be someone who passionately loves the band as a fan? All fans should be able to enjoy this wonderful thing they're doing without having to buy into a dumb gimmick. I won't be signing up, obviously, so I guess my only hope is those who do would be willing to share content.

Same feelings. Alienated.

I really do like the idea of their product. I really like that there’s a Billie, Mike and Tre element to the brand. However, it is too pricey to attach it to exclusive fan content.

I love coffee but I work hard and I am broke. Luxury is out of reach. Heck, concert tickets are out of reach right now. It seems really opposite of what the band supposedly stands for. In a bubble for too long. Maybe they need people who don’t kiss their butts or try to use them or live in the same bubble. Maybe they’ve alienated themselves and forgot what it’s like not to be them as they are at this moment. Decades of decadence whether they realize it or not. Or maybe they don’t care or just don’t get it. 

However, super happy that if they attach a partnership so glad it’s with themselves and for a quality product with the environment in mind etc and it’s smart that it’s a product people want and would result in repeat customers and even a want/need for a subscription.

But as far as attaching it to Green Day content a fan would love… Someone who has living in a bubble for too long made a whacky decision with this. Unless it’s part of the free subscription or like $1.99 or something like that.

Not a lot official social media posts already felt like distancing (that’s fine if social media can be great but also terrible) and now on top of feeling so distant without social media spending $ that’s probably not in many of our means for this subscription for content feels alienating.
