Shtrudel
"Slightly sharp above Eb" I know I know, but how much exactly is "slightly"? Anyone looked for the exact number? Is it consistent throughout the entire album?
Flashback
I don't think that they knew that. They tried to tune guitar and bass just with their ears and failed. The Eb tuning is the result

Hammie Stein
I only ever found When I come around was significantly off. I dont know the Hertz that its tuned to, maybe 2 or 3 above 440? I find insomniac to be more the issue tuning wise
Virginia Lot Lizard
90s rock, punk, grunge had messed up tuning. The tuning of Dookie and Insomniac not being standard has always upset me. I am so bad at tuning and anything that isn’t standard throws me. I like unstructured structure. WTF is drop-d tuning?

It's a standard tuning with the lowest E string dropped by one step down, which makes it a D. A lot of grunge, metal and even punk bands use this tuning. In Green Day's case the first song that pops up in my mind that it's used on is Whatshername.

And only Whatsername is in Drop D (probably because it's a rip-off of One Headlight by The Wallflowers, can't imagine any other way why). It does not to my knowledge. The only Green Day song in Drop D tuning stays to be Whatsername in my eyes, factual info seems to prove that point. At the end of Forever Now there is one guitar in Drop D (and is probably played using the bow like Billie Joe said during the RevRad interviews). How does that fact invert anything about my previous post? No need to act so privileged. I admit I'm not that much of an expert so I'd be glad to carry out a discussion but really no need for this facepalm "actually" shit. I was merely a bit ironic with the rip-off part because it's such a random tuning for Billie Joe to write in, instead of playing a D5 on the 5th and 7th fret respectively which would be way more typical for him. Apologies for the ironic part from my side because it's hard to tell in written word and we don't really know each other, I'm a bit specific in that written word regard. Shtrudel
I played a bit with the tuner and 442 seems to work the best. And why they're not tuned to exactly 440 - my guess is they were tuning to a piano in the room rather than a using a tuner. I should put attention to that the next time I listen to that album. On 7/22/2021 at 3:03 PM, Virginia Lot Lizard said: I am so bad at tuning and anything that isn’t standard throws me. Don't ever try to play to Soundgarden songs then 🙃
