"Pollyanna" - NEW SONG

I like the song (but I also liked HCTS 😅). But I think there could be more contrast between the verse guitars and the chorus guitars. To me, the song could be much more powerful with a different mixing.

I wonder where the name “Pollyanna” came from, because it’s not mentioned anywhere in the song

The word comes from a book of the same name, about a young orphan girl with a positive attitude even in difficult times. Because of this, the name came to mean a person who’s very optimistic.

It derives from an old novel which title character, Polyanna had a optimistic outlook on life. The song's theme is pretty much that, optimism and positivity about the future.

Looks like the resonance of the listeners on Instagram and Youtube is pretty good as well :)

Yep. Not surprised, it's hard not to have a smile on your face after listening to this :)

Maybe that's the point? That there is hope but also a lot of bad stuff out there still and a lot of work that needs to be done? I think there may be a few meanings here buried under the literal stuff.

I thought something similar with the frowny faces in the videos.  You have the upbeat, forward looking lyrics, but still some apprehension beneath that as well.

I hope we get a music video for this one.

And a good one.   Green Day can do no wrong musically, but they sure can screw up a music video.

Let me direct, I wanna screw it up FOR them!

Okay, I've been playing it for almost 2 hours straight.   I can't stop until I'm sick of it, but who knows how long that will take.

I NEED MORE GREEN DAY MUSIC.

Love it! I'm glad there are no sound effects of snorting coke like in HCTS

I am glad there are no police sirens.

Any song that avoids sirens is okay in my book.

Its alright. Since when Billie started writing about being positive and cheerful? its an okay song with happy vibes but the lyrics sounded kinda cheesy, Has Billie really lost it? Can someone confirm or explain what the fuck1 is up with him?

Another nice thing about this one is that they're not promoting it with any mention of friends and fuckers or hot dog videos. Well aside from the hot dog artwork. Are the band trying to tell us something about hot dogs that we're just not seeing?

Probably because of the Hella Mega Tour at MLB stadiums

If that’s what he meant, which I’m not sure about, because it could be just a generic catchphrase, so I’m saying IF that’s he meant, it would be such hypocrisy that he could win a medal if hypocrisy was an Olympic sport.

I am not going through this again. You believe whatever makes you feel good. All I know is I am still disgusted with a lot here and it is why I have been quiet here in recent weeks. However, I will just say I would not continue to support someone I honestly felt that way about, so I am wondering who the real hypocrite is.

Anyway, I still hope for a full album this year and the new font which was used for Pollyanna and HCTS gives me a tiny bit of hope 😄

I wonder how long before they update the website with that font. Because as of now, it still has the FOAM ketchup font

Totally agreed. Like everyone is so excited about good things that have happened--Trump is gone, pandemic is ending, the mofo who murdered George Floyd is going to prison where he belongs, etc--but there is still a hell of a lot wrong in this world that needs to be addressed.  I think this song is playing with the contradiction in those two things.

Someone who is a Polyanna is somewhat too optimistic, while the song is merely about not giving up (and sounds sort of melancholic imo), so I would say it’s not unlike Billie to write a song like this. It’s more subtle than Happiness, but I’d say it’s in a similar vein.

However, I have no idea what the fuck is up with him. Who knows really

Even if there's a new album this year I don't think these two would be on it -- HCTS and Polyanna are sonically too different to be from the same record, so either only one of them is from an album or more likely there's no album at all and these are just individual singles because the band has the freedom to do that now.

I was trying to remember what Weezer song this reminded me of, it’s Don’t Let Go off the green album, especially the chorus.

But again they have the same GREEN DAY font.

The artist that did the cover for these two last singles is very talented and just followed the direction the band gave them. I like them.
