I was gonna do this regardless of the actual quality of the song or video. =/

What the fuck is this stupid bullshit music video? Dear god. I can’t believe what has happened to this band in the last year and a half.

Crush media.

The song does not seem available on Spotify yet in my country? Wondering why is that, I wanted to listen first without the video lol

God damn, I don't even know where to begin with this.

First off, before even listening to the song, for the first time in a very long time I wasn't excited to listen to a new Green Day song. That upsets me. I remember when the 21CB demo leaked all those years ago listening to it in my room with so much anticipation to see what direction the band were going in this time. But for this, I just already knew what direction it would be and that I wouldn't like it.

The song is just so "meh" sprinkled with cringe. Someone put it best when they said it feels like the song was written by an AI computer or something. I feel like Green Day's music lately has lost its heart or spark. The lyrics carry no weight, and there's no meaning behind them, they're just.... there.

And before you say it,  no I'm not asking for another American Idiot or 21CB. Take a song like Devil's Kind. For me, that is one of the most well structured and brilliant songs Billie has written in years. It draws from the rock and roll inspiration Billie seems to want in his music, yet sounds unique to his style. That song is nothing like AI. It's simple and sweet. FOAM and this new track are lacking something big.

I also agree with whoever it was that was saying that Billie's lyrics are starting to go the blink-182 way of feeling too forced and "teenagery". OK Human is a fantastic example of a band embracing their age, evolving their sound and writing an album that fits this stage of their career and feels natural. FOAM feels like a 50 year old squeezing into a dusty leather jacket and trying to go clubbing with their 18 year old son/daughter.

I hoped Green Day would be the kind of band that would mature their sound as they aged. But it just feels like they are more and more desperate to stay relevant that they are forgetting what made them special to begin with.

The weird thing is that they are showing full capability of writing mature music, but seem to choose to release only boomer music as Green Day. The Longshot was 3 years ago and was very mature in sound and lyrics. The Network album was goofy, but the song-writing was mature and didn't at all touch this "yeah party, be young again!" vibe. Why leave this mid-life crisis music only for Green Day? FBHT was a "party record" in sound but lyrically showed a dark twist with commentary about death, addiction, and emotional pain that comes as a byproduct of that life-style. Basically my point is that Billie IS a mature songwriter and has shown that many times. Either GD thinks that mainstream audiences WANT this sound from them, or they just don't have much passion for GD anymore and just release "easy A" power pop songs that they can write in their sleep.

It’s fun, I like it, I got foxboro hot tubs vibes.

not every song is gonna be a masterpiece

I think the whole point of releasing this song was to make us think FOAMF isn't THAT bad

And about the video... It's possible to make aerobic lesson without this amount of cringe

Well I‘m not disappointed. Come on, it‘s a single which was especially released for the NHL, did anyone here actually think that this is going to be on AI level? Calm your expectations. Tbh I expected far less from the instrumental part, so I‘m quite happy that there is variation and not just straight forward and repeating like FRA was

I guess I'm in the minority here but I don't think this is a bad song. Is it a dumb, fun song? Definitely. But I don't think it's bad at all. I think we could all use some fun after this past year.

No just the people who hate it are loud about hating it

Honestly it's still growing on me. Kinda a weird song ngl. But it's not bad. They are prolly just letting "old" songs out of the vault knowing that they are no longer in a label.

Also side track guys, I cover the song on guitar

Yeah, I don't think its a bad song. In my opinion its far better than Oh Yeah, because even though its repetitive there is at least quite a bit going on musically, there's even a bridge in this one.

It's fine... but it just doesn't get me hyped and the fact that there isn't an album announcement with it makes me think it was just a one off.
I've said it before but the songs that just repeat lyrics in the chorus end up usually being my least favorite songs on the albums that they are on, but that doesn't necessarily make them bad songs.

For Spotify, I think it's only out in America on Sunday. It's not out for the rest of the world until Monday.

This sums up my reaction pretty well. Wasn’t expecting much so  don’t mind it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was released as part of a contractual arrangement with NHL. Wouldn’t expect them to put in a massive effort for something like that. There’s usually more hype for new GD too so given this was announced only a few days ago I didn’t think it was meant to be a big deal.

When I first heard it I was glad that I never stayed up to wait for it, now that I have heard it a few times its grown on me a little...it seems very network like..ivanka springs to mind...so I think it was actually written at the same time as mm2020 part 2 and saved for the NHL...The lyrics are mostly recycled lyrics, just like some songs in MM2020 2...its ok for an NHL promo, but if it was for a new GD album I'd be more worried.

Hopefully this is the last of this style of GD music we hear and hopefully they go back to being the rock giants that they are. In my opinion they need to leave crush media, get rid of butch Walker and work with butch vig or Cavallo again, they seem to bring the best out of the band...also not one member of the band has mentioned anything about it being out now, and to me that speaks volumes really.

Best part of it is tre at the end 🤣

4/10 from me...

Thank you! I couldn't wait and just managed to listen it finally. I did not feel positive about it after seeing all the negative comments but I can now say that it is not bad as a song at all. It was actually very enjoyable for me.

So, I really like the sound and all the vibes, it’s like a fun, quick punk rock track. I think, it even feels like combination of tunes from Foamf and 21CBD, such good/chill vibes!

Also, I loved Billie's vocals overall but when he hits high on "from the barrio", it was my favorite! And, hearing Tré's “you are doing it fucking wrong” at the end was so cool too!

I wouldn't say anyone has been loud about it...

Feels like some users on here take things personally when the band's music gets criticised. We don't have to like everything just because we're Green Day fans.

I think it might seem like people are being "loud" because we're all passionate fans on here, so when they release music that we personally deem to be below the quality we expect for GD, our criticisms might come across as slightly harsh. But it all comes from the same place of loving this band.

I can’t stop replaying it. Extremely catchy and the verses have grown on me too.  Only thing I didn’t 100% like at first was the way Billies vocals were mixed but even that’s growing on me now too. The guitars and drums go crazy too. Y’all need to blast this in your car or in your headphones trust me. It’s a banger. Green Day doesn’t owe us any type of music they can put out what they desire they’ve already had enough success before.  Just enjoy the fact that they’re still going and making music!  If you don’t like this song that’s okay but there’s no reason to hate them for putting it out or make assumptions about Billies level of passion care and effort.

seriously though it’s stuck in my head right now “Here comes the shock. Here comes the shoooooock” I’d love to hear them perform it live.

Someone in the other thread mentioned it sounds like he's saying "here comes the SHARK" and now I can't un-hear it 😂

:lol::lol: I read this before I listened to it. It will never be anything but SHARK to me.

Dunno the reason for the excessive doom and gloom, it's not mind blowing but it's a fun little catchy track. Is it from when they made FOAM? Decent b-side material.

Wow, I just listened to song, and I was being sarcastic when I said I want it to be at least as good as Popper Punk. It's not, and I don't even like Popper Punk that much.

Maybe NHL deserves it. "Here you go, fuckers, we feed you our worst leftover song from FOAM".

Just listened to it and wasn't met by any shock, just disappointment. Holy shit that was lame lol. Maybe I'll enjoy it at some point, but for now I have no interest in hearing it again. Pretty much what I expected though so it's all good.

I'm glad this is just a one off song (hopefully it is)

A large part of me feels like they are saving their best material for another album

But unfortunately now I'll go into any new green day single with very low expectations 🙃

I don't understand why so many complains... This Song sounds like Green Day, not like Foam, that sounds like Prince ir something like that ... I like this Green Day punk sound... The original one...
