I didn't watch the video because I was already put off before even starting it. Just switched tabs and listened to the song. This is very subpar. I know these boys can do better. :(

The Network paid you to say that.   We get it.

But you really should check out the video, it's amaze balls.

to be honest i dont like the idea of green day doing songs for a entirely commercial purpose like this one, and foam feels like a record they dont wanted to do or aimed to a new youth new generation. you are 50 years old stop singing shallow lyrics and singing about the adolescence. do what you really want to do instead of all this bullshit  instead of trying to stay relevant. i want honest songs.

I'm not just talking to you but can people please stop saying FOAM is bad like everyone thinks that? It's really annoying. We get it you don't like Queens of the Stone Age or Jack White or other various garage bands. I mean really you can say green day became more of commercial entity when they started sounding like other bands. And that started with American Idiot. Granted there are some things in there that are clever and somewhat original but really they started sounding more and more like other bands between AI and FOAM. I think there are some songs between that time that are a lot more original than others and that's all we should really ask for at this point. The only way the identity crisis can be fixed is with going indie, that's why the side projects are more consistent.

the biggest issue are the lyrics, about tennagers, and anxiety in dance clubs, and shallow lyrics just for the sound of it. he writed more mature songs when he was younger

@That Dude i think we made a deeper song than "here comes the shock "

I think we just don't need to overreact to what I think is a b-side. Most likely this is nothing like what the next record will sound like. I think there are some bad lyrics in there last few albums but I don't think it's as consistently bad as people make it out to be. If Money Money pt 2 was better and some of the other side projects were fine, it definitely means they can still make better lyrics. A lot of time if it changes it can be because they don't necessarily want to repeat themselves. It just hasn't been the absolute right time for them to do something real serious. It's not just the label or other factors mentioned

What’s the alternative?

Idk but look at the Foo Fighters. They are chart toppers again and they are not embarrassing themselves. Rivers, Pete and Billie should learn a lesson or two from Mr. Grohl.. he did a better foam anyways

Yea I enjoyed both the Foos and Weezer album. Plus Weezer's video for "All My Favourite Songs" is fantastic. Probably the best video I've seen from Weezer (and Foos&Green Day for that matter) in years.

Even if people have disliked a lot of the newer Weezer albums, I give them credit for trying to create distinct projects and sounds and keep it fresh. All of their albums sound distinct. Green Day keeps just rehashing the "100% uncut rock" thing and they clearly can't satisfy that itch.

Looking at these lyrics and this has to be a joke:

”rumble in the streets” : that’s from 99 Revolutions

“screaming bloody murder” : Nuclear Family

“Take it to the grave” and “we got no place to go”:  Back in the USA

”the Barrio” : referenced in Homecoming

I just don’t know what to say, I’m shocked at how low effort this is

maybe billie needs a dictionary to learn new words to be inspired 🤣

I mean...context makes lyrics good. Some of these things are Green Day-isms, but they aren't inherently good or bad.

I have a hunch this song was written last summer and the lyrics are about the George Floyd protests and riots. I think they’ve been written in a non-specific way to suit the NHL mass comercial audience in the same way Fire, Ready, Aim was about internet trolling. I give them props for trying to sneak a message in given the corporate demands.

Song is on Spotify now in the US. Listening there. The end is a bit of a jam but then they had to ruin it with the coke snorting which is still really annoying with headphones.  It stops the momentum in its tracks. Likewise I’m not a fan of the “damage will be done” thing they definitely shouldn’t have done it twice.

I’m trying to find something positive to say about it after so many listens and I guess the best thing about it is the melody maybe has a Misfits vibe in the choruses?  Kinda? That’s not bad.

You guys have the worst take on music ever, you looking too much into this, so Green Day can never ever use those lyrics in any of their songs ever again? lmao It's literally them having fun making music, not everything has to sound like it was in a rock opera album.

He recycles words and phrases often for sure, but show me another song of theirs that has this many whole lines taken from their other songs (and not an obvious rewrite like Jerry Falwell’s Pool Party)
