New Song: "Here Comes the Shock"

Just did some research. Punk Rock Aerobics is a real thing by Hilken. The backdrop is her studio and she does zoom aerobics classes to punk rock music.

i dig it. i get it. i’m FEELING it. also the more i listen to the song, i could see it as being the first track to an album that’s just power and energy and sharp tongue lyrics

The tune is catchy, but I hope we get meaningful lyrics again. Like idk what this song is talking about lol

I agree. I also don’t quite get the lyrics yet either.

Am I the only one truly SHOCKED by how bad this is?
Like that video was painful. At least for the 3 FOAM videos there was some decent production involved.

The Network videos were slapdash but great

Overall I like this song. It definitely sounds much better than anything on FOAM (and FOAM has some good songs, like Sugar Youth and Take the Money and Crawl). This definitely sounds much more like what you would expect Green Day to sound like. Not sure this is there most brilliant writing LOL, but as I listen to it more and more I think there is some deep stuff in there. The video seems stupid, but I have a feeling it is commentary on stupid social media stuff, much like the "Oh Yeah" video was. (I have a feeling that there has been a a running theme of mocking the shit storm that is the current world since FOAM.) Everyone keep in mind that it is really challenging to make a traditional music video right now thanks to covid. So on the whole I am happy with this. I think we all knew that they wouldn't put out a masterpiece for the NHL, but if this shows the direction they are moving in, then I think that is a good direction. I agree with what someone said in the other thread about the drums being absolute fire on this. Anyway, just my two cents. I know everyone is going to just want to complain about this and thus we can never have nice things around here.

I totally agree - but for Green Day, with a bigger audience, I expected a little more?

It follows the pattern of FOTM and some of the other recent NHL cross-promo stuff. It’s pure shit. Another WWE theme IMO.

Honestly, I’ve stopped being harsh on Green Day releases because I’m convinced there must be some reason why this is happening. Don’t tell me Billie Joe isn’t aware he’s releasing good music as side projects and then just whatever as Green Day.

Yeah, the side projects prove he’s still capable so this has to be some kind of weird choice he’s making. Maybe he’s following in the footsteps of his idols The Replacements and being self sabotaging.

Can we talk about the snorting drugs sound effect? 😂 Honestly though, what the hell is this. I remember hearing Bang Bang for the first time and being blown away that the guys could still make excellent music after the trilogy. Sadly with this song and the album before it, that magical feeling is just not there.

I think the mindset Green Day are in is kinda what blink was in for most of Cali. Going with the first lyrics you think of because they are the most “real” since you thought of those first. That however is not the best method in my opinion, but I think it’s what they are doing.

Maybe he is. Or maybe he’s trying to cater to expectations so that the music presumably sells... I don’t know, but I believe we’re not going to get Green Day music that feels real until he gets over this.

It reminds me of the bong sound in the song Green Day but it’s one thing when you’re 18 (and weed is a benign drug)

I mean, as I said earlier, I think musically this is great and lyrically it is lacking. The Network stuff proves he can still write brilliantly and has plenty to say. I do think there is an element here of writing some shallow stuff to ironically comment on a shallow world, and also I don't think we could expect anything that deep for the NHL (we all know no sports league is going to want heavy social commentary for a highlight real LOL). There was some deep writing on FOAM (think "Junkies on a High" and "Graffitia").

Not so good. Horrible chorus. But I enjoy it more than most of FOAM for sure.
i do like that we can hear Mike’s vocals. I feel like, other than American Eulogy and SDV, we’ve barely heard any backing vocals from him at all since AI

Even though it's a stand-alone song, I can't get it why did they decide to put that kind of thing under Green Day name (for a reason it wasn't on FOAMF). Strange. A year ago they showed that they care about their image and musicianship no longer, and unfortunetely they don't tend to change it. I agree the fresh ideas for songs they keep for side projects 😕

I'd still rather see them releasing anything even if it's not their usual quality than taking 4 years to release something outstanding. I guess I've come to the point where I just like anything they release just because it's them. FRA was the song I heard the most in 2020 lol.
