You're right about that for sure. But at the same time, Money Money 2020 Part II had so many great songs (imo of course) that them releasing one slightly subpar song isn't the worst thing in the world to me. Again, it's not easy to record stuff in current times so maybe this was all they had?

There’s not been an objectively great Green Day song since the trilogy (at a push). Everything else has been either forgettable or poor quality

I hope I get to see it live because singing HERE COMES THE SHARK in a crowd would be almost as good as singing RAW HAM

Am I the only one who somehow doesn't get the raw ham reference?

It's a GDC classic:

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy, raw ham

I think it's unlikely they wrote it specifically with only this in mind, and especially unlikely that they consciously wouldn't put effort into it. I think they put effort into all their songs, just some come out better than others. It's more just that they're probably not going to select the most revolutionary or deep song/idea for a song they have for something like this. They'll select a light and catchy one.

I don’t see how a contract with the NHL makes the band releasing crap music any better, it makes it worse as it shows they either have no quality control or are willing to put out sub par songs for money. The results are the same either way.

It was just kind of a meme on here when the song came out. But the best thing is when J'net interviewed the band for GDA a few years ago she told them about it lol

He deactivated it months ago

He did but hasn’t it been back recently? I thought he posted the other day? Maybe I confused his post with the Green Day one

He posted one story over a month ago but had just brought it back for a few days and took it down again. He really hasn’t posted anything of note since The Network stuff

Even if this was a song just for the NHL why did they think it was a good idea to put out that godawful music video

I think it was just more of a way to have a visual it doesn't feel like it's really a "single"

Well I don't think it's crap and I doubt the band does either. They've just selected a light and catchy song because that's the type of song that's appropriate for this purpose. If they wrote a groundbreaking new song suitable to be the title track and central theme of a new album they'd save that for that. If they were asked for a song for a sad movie they'd probably select a slow sad one. They just submitted a song that fits the purpose, whether anyone thinks it's good or not is down to personal opinion but you thinking it's sub par doesn't mean they do.

Fair enough. I would rather the band not put out music purely through contractual obligation to what is essentially a corporation. It doesn’t seem to fit in with the values of the band, it doesn’t sit well with me.

Well seeing as they’re now going after every fan group on IG that’s supported them I’m starting to wonder what the values of the band actually are

Doesn't the same apply every time they put out music on a major record label though? Warner or NHL, they're both corporations that pay them to release music.

What does this have to do with the song and this thread?

Obviously not. Do I really need to explain to you what a record label does? Surely not.

again, do I really have to explain what a record label is and what the difference is between a label and a sports league?
