They didn’t promote it because it was for the NhL - who held exclusive rights to its release. A career ebs and flows. They’re not going to be huge all of the time. They’re still going to tour (when able again) and still going to make the music they want to. their management has no influence on the songs and we can’t - in my mind - really judge crush because the first release with them was scuttled due to covid. And I would never put a bands success on who their managers are. They are gate keepers, time managers and negotiators. I will continue to listen to this band regardless of their “Top 40” status. As I’ve said before, I will listen, absorb and judge what they release and whether it goes “viral” or number 1 for weeks makes no difference to me. at least they are still making new music and still the same 3 members they have been since 1990. Many bands aren’t. You're clearly not getting my point., as I said, I rather them have an album like revrad (commercial flop) but i'ts a damn good album and not an intent of being a top 40 artist (foam) and i'm not just talking about here comes the shark.. i'm talking about everything that came since foam. It's not a bad album but it's bland and yeah, the production isn't helping and i'm a huge Butch Walker fan so i don't know if it's his fault. Of course i'll continue to listen to them and be at least a bit excited for their new releases but come on, we don't want them to turn into a nostalgia act since they have so much pottential. They are young and capable of something more, they have proven time and time again they're one of the bests. These days they seem to be like Aerosmith was in the 90s but even they had commercial success so idk..
Popular Post jengd
I feel we go round this quite often and can see the different points of view but I put on the radio the other day to hear the young, female DJ say she was about to play a band who “unusually was evolving and keeping relevant” and played FOA, which sounded really good on the radio and amongst what she was playing.

The band is going to make the music they want and pick the producer/mixer/ect. to fit the sound they want at this point. A 30+ year career in this business is rare. Again, rock is not the chart topper it was in the early 2000’s. Someday rock will prevail over the masses again. and I’m out because all this does is make a circle argument. ✌🏻
Clockwise
As far as I'm concerned, RevRad and FOAM both have one song that I feel was crafted for radio, Still Breathing and Oh Yeah, respectively. I think they're still pushed to create hits with crossover appeal, but that's no problem because they're good at it and the songs still have heart. Here Comes The Shock, on the other hand, doesn't feel like it would fit anywhere on modern radio.
Popular Post Little Boy Named Booze
The best comments under this song on Youtube: I feel like this’s a Nickelodeon show theme song The song is so bad that the band didn't even bother showing up for the video. This sounds like an auto generated Green Day song So true 😂 omg this song is bad. 2

I think maybe they were tired of being pushed to create certain types of music and wanted to make something more authentic, whether it fits the radio or not. And if they have more freedom now in their contract, then they can do that, and that's just what they did.

Christian's Inferno!
RevRad was actually okay in terms of commercial success. Better than the trilogy and better than FOAMF. Any metrics in which the trilogy performed better than RevRad can be explained by the time period it was released; a period in which album sales were higher & streaming accounted for less. RevRad's streaming numbers are far better than the 3 trilogy albums, partially due to it being released in a time where streaming was more significant and partially due to the fact that the album was received better by fans. The streaming gap is only growing more over time between the two projects Green Day are not going to get to the success of American Idiot or Dookie again. They probably won't even have another 21st Century Breakdown level commercial success again. But that doesn't mean that the albums are going to be poorly received by critics and fans. I'm optimistic that the band still has a lot of great songs and albums to release. I don't think the performance of this one song is an indicator of where they're heading. It wasn't really promoted, it's not an album single. It's basically like the Xmas Time of the Year track of this era and we all know that track wasn't anything special either. Just something small between albums to keep some people happy. 3

It isn't the best song they ever wrote, but it isn't trash either, and to me it is an improvement over the FOAM sound. As @Christian's Inferno! said above, I think better things are on the way from them.

FOAM said a lot of really deep and important things but it got buried under an annoying poppy sound. I think HCTS says some important things too, not their best-written song but still with meaning, but that gets lost under the fun punk sound too LOL. The only meaning I get from HCTS is that there is a shark nearby and sniffing cocaine is the way to escape him. 1
Popular Post Virginia Lot Lizard
The evolution of Green Day is fantastic and I am grateful for it. They are young and awesome and capable of so much and so much more. I applaud them for taking risks and leaving their peers in the dust. People the same age as them feel like geezers. Green Day def drank from the fountain of youth and I love the risks they take even if it pisses off their “old” fans. I feel like anyone who doesn’t want them to live life and change and evolve would basically like them to live in tombs or museums for amusement. I am glad they take risks and evolve and try new things. It shows they aren’t dinosaurs. I want them to live life and ultimately even fail sometimes. So what? It’s great. 2

This is going to sound bitchy but it’s genuinely not. What meaning/message are you picking up on? Because I’m reading the lyrics while listening to it again and I still can’t pinpoint the subject matter. 1 hour ago, Christian's Inferno! said: They probably won't even have another 21st Century Breakdown level commercial success again. I don’t think it’s entirely out of reach but man, that’s sad to think about that you’re probably right. Rock just ain’t as big as it used to be. I’d argue that’s why it’s even more important that the output be good. It being a rando single as filler between albums still isn’t a great excuse for putting out sub-par work (again, just my opinion). And it’s just a shame after that Network record was so good.

Yeah thats why I said it "probably" wouldn't reach 21CB success. Definitely won't rule it out though. I'd love to be shown wrong though. Also, the fact that RevRad did as well as it did in 2016 though despite the falling status of rock music is another reason why I consider it more successful than the trilogy. Rock music was still quite well known in 2012 which makes the trilogy even more of a disappointment commercially. I still don't get why the Network album is so beloved here. I listened to it recently and despite a couple decent tracks, I'm not seeing it 10 minutes ago, Little Boy Named Booze said: Yeah because when MM2020 Pt2 came out you only said it one time that you didn't like it. Most of the tracks I see no justification for their existence. And even a lot of the better tracks aren't tracks that I see myself coming back to much at all EDIT: Maybe that's slightly unfair since the lyrical content here is actually okay for the most part 1
