It sounded the best in the TV ad preview (when the whole thing came out ot was a disappointment) and I believe there is a reason for it. I mean, you could say the same thing about Know Your Enemy when it was debuted as promo material for the NBA. If the only indication we have that FRA was written for the NHL is you not liking it, well okay. But that doesn't mean it's the truth. It's a fair thing for you to believe that. And it's just as fair for me to believe that Green Day isn't a band that would write songs with the specific intention to sell as a jingle. 🤷♂️ Proof that the new song is 'super great.' 7
That Dude
Now I've got one of the better songs from Weezer's OK Human stuck in my head. Cool! My umbrella makes me look just like the Morton girl Splish, splish splash Whoa-oh-oh taking a bath Walking down the road Wow. On paper, that looks like the dumbest song ever. But that's the genius of Weezer for ya. Here Comes the Shock. Interesting. 1

Ross_19
A lovely surprise that we're getting new music this weekend. I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything too ground breaking, I imagine that since it's for the NHL it'll be along the same lines as FRA - short, snappy and jingly. That's not a bad thing though, FRA wasn't superb but is still a fun tune, and I'll bet this one will be a fun listen also.
Squashie
From the NHL press release (I've bolded the GD parts): Spoiler Lake Tahoe NHL Outdoors plans include Green Day, front-line workers NEW YORK - The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced its game day plans for NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™, the picturesque event featuring two regular-season outdoor games played at Edgewood Tahoe Resort in Stateline, Nev., Feb. 20-21. With the Lake Tahoe shoreline as its backdrop, selfless members of the Tahoe Community will be honored before the Colorado Avalanche face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday™ on Feb. 20. On Feb. 21, South Lake Tahoe area Olympic Stars Hannah Teter and Maddie Bowman will be honored before the Boston Bruins take on the Philadelphia Flyers in the Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday™. Both games will be broadcast live at 3pm ET on NBC in the U.S. and on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada. In addition, the pair of outdoor games will feature the world premiere of a new song by five-time Grammy® Award-winning rock band Green Day, the performance of the U.S. national anthem by three-time Grammy® Award-winning and multi-platinum selling artist Pentatonix and a special $1 million golf challenge by Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon. Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday™ on Feb. 20 - Avalanche vs. Golden Knights Saturday's Opening Ceremony presented by Navy Federal Credit Union will begin with the on-ice arrival of the Avalanche and Golden Knights, followed by a performance of the U.S. national anthem by South Lake Tahoe native Aurora C. Gooch. The 21-year old singer is on the front lines of the pandemic, serving as a collection specialist for a Tahoe-based COVID testing company. U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Jared Elliott will arrive by boat, dock at the Edgewood pier and deliver the game puck to Daryl Braga, a charge nurse and Lead RN in the emergency department at Barton Memorial Hospital; Miranda Miller, an Activities Director at the Skilled Nursing Facility, a part of Barton Memorial Hospital; and Dusty R. Gooch, a firefighter and paramedic for the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District and the father of Saturday's anthem singer. The trio of frontline workers will present the puck to game officials. The pregame festivities will conclude with a flyover featuring one HC-130J and two HH-60G helicopters flown by members of the Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) Combined Test Force (CTF), stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. In the first intermission, the focus will move from the NHL-regulation size rink on the par-5 18th hole to the lakeside par-3 17th hole of the iconic Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. The One Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge presented by Bridgestone will feature Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon's attempt to relive a memorable moment from the same spot - Avalanche GM and Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Sakic's hole-in-one in the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe in 2011. If MacKinnon makes an ace to match Sakic's feat a decade ago, the NHL will donate $1 million to the NHL/NHLPA Learn to Play program. During the second intermission, Saturday's game broadcast on NBC, Sportsnet and TVA will feature the world premiere of Green Day's newest song, "Here Comes the Shock." The song will be featured in a highlight reel of the top plays of the first quarter of the 2020-21 NHL® season. The debut of the song and highlight video are part of the NHL's two-year, cross-platform and promotional partnership with the band. Immediately following its NHL debut, "Here Comes the Shock" will be available on Feb. 21 on all music services, including Apple Music and Spotify. This marks the second year of the NHL's collaboration with Green Day. Green Day's music will be featured throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 season. Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday™ on Feb. 21 - Flyers vs. Bruins Following the on-ice arrival of the Bruins and Flyers, Sunday's Opening Ceremony presented by Navy Federal Credit Union will feature a special performance of the U.S. national anthem by three-time Grammy® Award-winning and multi-platinum selling artist Pentatonix. Following the anthem, two T-38 Talon aircrafts, operated by the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron (1 RS) assigned to Beale Air Force Base in California, will fly over the venue. To close the pregame festivities, three-time Olympic snowboarder Hannah Teter and two-time Olympic skier Maddie Bowman, both South Lake Tahoe area residents, will deliver the game puck. NHL Network™, NHL.com and NHL Social™ will provide extensive coverage of the event. Fans can join the conversation via the official event hashtag #NHLOutdoors. About Green Day: Green Day released their thirteenth studio album Father of All… in 2020 via Reprise/Warner Records. It debuted at #1 on the UK Albums Chart while also hitting #1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums and #4 on the Billboard 200, resulting in the band's 11th US Top-10 album. It was met with widespread critical acclaim from Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, Noisey, Stereogum, and Rolling Stone who called it "one of their most fun ever." They performed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Good Morning America, and the American Music Awards. Green Day will embark on a global stadium tour, The Hella Mega Tour, with Fall Out Boy and Weezer kicking off June 9, 2021. They made a new deal with them that allows them to put out anything they want, any time, free of a required number of full albums I really like that model. I am glad they have that freedom. But I still love traditional albums.

I honestly don't understand your point - I'm not telling you I know for a fact that it was written for NHL, I'm just saying that it sounds like a jingle that was made 90 seconds too long (what a massive coincidence innit). Know Your Enemy actually works as a song, FRA doesn't.

Know Your Enemy is definitely about something, especially when you consider the broader context of the 21CB album. I have hope for this new song. I doubt they would release a song that was purely promotional at this moment. I get the vibe that they have a lot to say and that we are going to hear some deep stuff from them.
