MillenniumFan
We've talked a lot about what style we would expect (or more often: like to have) for the next album, but what do you guys think might be a likely time-frame? I mean right now they haven't even had a chance to tour for FOAM, so I would have thought a new album would first be likely late 2022/2023 at the earliest, no?
GuitarPunk94
i expect 2 options 1) 2022 could be a "normal" year with the usual touring stuff, they will still do the hellamega tour, but with an updated touring route foam wasnt well received and didnt get peoples attention (mainly talking for germany), so they could use their time now and write a new LP, release it in 2022 to support the hellamega tour 2) 2022 could be a "normal" year with the usual touring stuff, they will still do the hellamega tour, but with an updated touring route they dont use their "free" time now, maybe do another song or EP to support the 2022 touring, 2022 they will be touring, and after the tour they could write another LP and release it sometime in 2023 ( 3) its green day, maybe they come around with a triple lp again or maybe they dont feel the need to do new music anytime soon, who knows)

jengd
I would say the one thing I would bet on is we won’t guess what they do next. They usually come up with something unexpected eg MM2020MK 2 but I will be ready for whatever it is.

That Dude
Green Day. Orchestra. New songs. Guest appearance from the Viagra Boys and Lady Gaga. 13 songs. Virtual tour which you can join the band on stage.
Beerjeezus
Whatever they do, please don't do another album and then H*lla M*ga. That will be two albums that won't get played live.

Van Weezer was written specifically for the Hella Mega tour maybe Green Day should do a similar thing and then they might actually play the songs. If they play the new songs, there will be fewer reasons to hate hella mega. It seems to me that from the beginning, the tour was designed for playing the hits and it didn't seem the way FOAM was received played much of a role in it, but hopefully, if there's another album, they'll play it.
Popular Post Rumpelstiltskin2000
I still don't know they would sadly. The majority of people just want to hear the hits
straighttohell
I'd love something similar to Love is for Losers, like a more down to earth kind of rootsy sound. Maybe a mix of Love is for Losers and Warning. More mature and kind of a Replacements sound/vibe. Or like the more heartfelt moments on the Trilogy (X-Kid, Rusty James, Stay the Night). Honest and emotional. That'd be great imo. FOAMF was fun but it had me missing their more emotionally potent songs. I know Billie loves songs like Scattered, Letterbomb, Who Wrote Holden Caufield, so i'm thinking he can't go too long NOT writing those kinds of songs. I feel like it would be impossible for him to just write party garage music for the rest of his life. He seems like an emotional dude who will always find his way back to writing songs about longing, feeling lost, disillusioned, etc. That's who he is deep down. We'll see. I don't think it'll be here anytime soon though. Probably 2023 or 2024. I feel like lately it's been typically 3 to 4 years between albums.

alienlifeform
It would be great if they release a new album just like 'Let the Bad Times Roll', from the Offspring that is coming next friday (and just leaked). Classic sound, with the band just being themselves instead of trying to embed 'old rock and roll' tunes into their sound and releasing music that is far from their greatest songs

Classic sound, with the band just being themselves instead of trying to embed 'old rock and roll' tunes into their sound and releasing music this is far from their greatest songs To be honest, I have a feeling that's what they (or certainly Billie) were going after with RevRad. I also think that Billie especially will have been disappointed by them struggling to sell out arenas/stadiums during the world tour and the fact that arguably fewer people were paying attention to them in 2016/2017 than even during the trilogy. I think the fact that other "contempories" like the Foo Fighters were also seemingly doing better (and put more in the limelight) didn't help. It's all rather unfortunate, because while the album or tour cetainly weren't my favourite, I do think that better production on RevRad and better management (as well as promotion) for the tour would have gone a long way. Now I obviously don't think it's quite as simple as saying FOAM is just their mid-life crisis or that Billie/the guys were somehow bitter and jealous, but quite honestly, I think it must have hurt to put your heart and sould into an album like RevRad (also remembering the complete public fiasco of the trilogy) and then not get as much recognition for it as you might have hoped. I think that sucks and I could understand that feeling all too well. However, seeing that FOAM probably didn't tick anyone's boxes either (neither for negative attention, nor for critical or popular acclaim), I think they will eventually return to a more "classic" Green Day sound, or at least move away from forceably trying to sound fresh and edgy. Wether that'll be a scaled-down project embracing their new "status" as a band post the huge successes of Dookie/AI/21CB, where they'll try to appeal more to long-time fans (possibly something Longshot or Nimrod/Warning inspired) or wether they'll attempt to pull off another concept album / rock opera, I don't know. But I feel like it might go in either direction.
Virginia Lot Lizard
Green Day are way cooler than the Foo Fighters and Offspring. I don’t care if those other bands are selling more tickets. Green Day means a lot more and has a much more diverse audience. They mean more and their evolution is important. How much is the audience of those other bands growing? Aren’t they basically throwback 90s bands doing basically the same thing they’ve always done? Sure they’re consistently good and their fan based is consistent... Because are they really evolving or doing anything interesting? It doesn’t look like it. I’m not a big fan of either of those bands so I could be ignorant with what I’m saying but to me they seem boring and like they’re retro 90s bands. Green Day are way more interesting and fun and full of surprises. Even sucky surprises sometimes but amazing surprises too. I’d rather have a fail of a suckfest once in a while than be a diehard fan of a boring band. 1
