Wow, very interesting read! I surprised that how I had no idea about their guitar teacher before because I think he seems as an important influence on them since their very eary years!

I’m in tears over this what an incredible interview. The love and pride he has and their history is so touching. I remember meeting Mrs. Fiatarone and she had that same gushing pride and enthusiasm for her former student. He’s so very loved and his success is a beautiful story that so many people were a part of.

Such a sweet interview! He's so proud of his boys! 🥰 Quote They’re already in the history books. Friends of mine have bought me Green Day songbooks as kinda like a gag but I can see the whole picture, I know the guitar is part of it but when I see them I’m just, my hearts gonna leap out of my chest, it’s just amazing. Quote When you see their show…. I saw them at the Greek and I’m sitting right next to (Billie’s sister) Anna and her Mom and I just started weeping and so Anna puts her hand on my face and she goes “oh my god, tears!” and I said ‘shut up’ [laughs]. I just couldn’t and she said “there’s nothing to be ashamed of, you’re so proud of your student”. And I super, super am. I mean these guys, who would have thought that these little nothings from nowheresville. I mean nowheresville. They’re out there in Rodeo, refinery town. No hope. No future. No nothing, and then…look at em, amazing. Although I have the impression he doesn't like the stickers on Blue very much! 😄

jengd
I just saw the George Cole interview and the bit about how long the interviewer had been pursuing him when I shared this and rather than lose it and didn’t have time to read it until much later, but omg what a sweet interview! Between that and @pacejunkie punk’ anecdote about Mrs Fiatarone, 😭😭🥰🥰

Beerjeezus
I was surprised to realize that George was only in his early twenties when teaching Billie. He was born in 1960.

It’s so awkward to talk to kids because they talk to me like I’m an adult but not the way other adults do. Anyway, I’ve always found the story of Blue so heartwarming. He never stopped playing his first proper guitar and look how far he’s made it!!! It makes me feel like I’m watching a fairy tale 3

It’s like this symobically important object that appears at the beginning and becomes integral to the protagonist, if you look at it as a hero’s journey thing. I would love to watch this movie! They need to get someone good looking for the role. But first we need a biography to built from. I wonder if he ever writes one.

Knowing him if he signed off on a movie though he would probably enlist one of his old punk friends that would make something really weird 😄

I think it would need to be made by a real fan who loves him, warts and all.

I kind of doubt it’s happening because he seems to value his privacy. I wouldn’t mind if it was a bit experimental like the Bob Dylan movie - but he’d probably get John Roecker to do it and that’s a very different kind of experimental But he’s mentioned he likes rock biographies so maybe... one day he might figure to write one

But he may think that’s something for others to do once he’s gone. (So I’m not in a hurry)

That's an interesting aspect too, because it seems some people use an autobiography as a way to curate their image/how they're going to be remembered, while it can also be left for others to decide or somehow interpret the story from the outside. I have a feeling it might not happen though, because it seems the entire era of rockstars is over. Even Kurt Cobain hasn't got a movie. It's Freddie Mercury and Elton John who got biopics and they're stars from a different decade. A book by someone else is highly likely though.

By the time you reach your fifties you get nostalgic for the music of your teens and teens discover it for the first time. We’re at the right time period for that 70’s-80’s artist nostalgia/resurgence. They’ll get to the nineties stars, but not for another ten years or more.

He might feel different once he gets older though. I don't know if I'd trust someone else to do it. There are so many bad ones out there. I could see someone like Rob Cavallo writing a book about his story in music and mentioning them in it, like Larry did. Fleetwood Mac's old producer did that too (about FM, not GD, obviously).
jengd
Maybe it’s more likely Mike or Tre will write one for the band.
