pacejunkie punk Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Just watched it a couple more times. Billie is absolutely having a blast playing Basket Case. Did you catch that little "Whoop!" at the end? Cute.
Slave To The Network Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Still hoping for an uncut version with just the performance and no montage.
Flashback Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 I think that the Network album prove that they still enjoy playing together. There is so much fun and creativity inside these songs. The fire is still burning!

I was actually concerned in the first half of the year when Billie was doing so much on his own and the others didn’t seem interested enough to figure out a way to collaborate but The Network put that concern to rest. They remain and will always be greater than the sum of their parts.
Dysfunco Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Very noticable auto-tune on Basket Case, especially at the beginning of the song.
purplebenny Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 This thread is Insane it was a very good performance, it was there to showcase pieces of the NFL season with a big music act over it No more and no less. ‘Green Day are done’ because someone thought a promo performance wasn’t the greatest is absolutely insane
British Idiot Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 If they’re so bored of being in Green Day why would they have even done the performance? They could have just turned it down. The argument doesn’t make any sense. And basing anything off one promo performance for an NFL show is ridiculous.
Annie, get your gun Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 What the fuck is wrong with some people on this site?

The Grohl Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 I watched the performance again last night and it made me incredibly happy. It was also a cool moment to see live because I was watching it with my boyfriend and after he said I was all smiles I couldn't help it! I was happy to see my boys!
lilshootdawg Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Thought this was a worthy post to link considering the discussion about the halftime show not being paid by NFL

Seems like it is a pretty good bump most of these artists get for their troubles.
jengd Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I probably shouldn’t comment as am not a sports fan but from an outsider perspective, most years I see GD fans saying GD should do the Super Bowl and while I understand the sentiment, I am not sure it would be a good fit for them. I feel they are about the actual song performance but it seems to me, this year aside, the super bowl shows are all about being the biggest spectacle someone can come up with and I just can’t imagine them in that sort of scenario. Maybe shouldn’t start this here as it could take us off topic.
Cheap Escape Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I finally sat down and watched my DVR recording of the performance, and my opinion remains unchanged: it was a really enjoyable award show appearance. They were playing “to tape” in front of a small crew of people, so any perceived lack of vigor is likely due to that reality. That being said, I didn’t feel anything was particularly amiss. 🤷♂️
Thatsername Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I didn't read this thread and I'm kind of late to the party, but here's my unpopular opinion and maybe I'm the only one, but I LOVE that they played Still Breathing. It's my favourite Green Day song of all time and yes it's hard to sing for Billie and yes, maybe it's a bit too much vor his voice and he doesn't hit every note perfectly, but I love the song and its meaning more than I can even say. There's so much passion and sadness, but also hope in the song and I feel it in this performance, I absolutely feel it. Couldn't hold back some tiny tears when the chorus kicked in. I was worried that we would never hear that song again when Billie once mentioned in an interview that he doesn't want to write the "feelgood song of the year" anymore or something like that (I'm pretty sure he was talking about SB back then), so I never expected this. Great surprise and great song choice for times like these... I just wish they could have played it in full length😍 #TeamStillBreathing

I mean, they could not have picked three more perfect songs for this moment. Can't find any videos without the football montage, but here is an HD version:
Little Boy Named Booze Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Still can't believe how the vocal was perfect during Still Breathing. Kind of hate the obvious autotune at the start of Basket Case tho
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I’d say loads of reverb and some pitch correction
pacejunkie punk Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Wow their official YouTube has 4.99 million subscribers. So close to 5 million!
dannygreen Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Guys, it was an incredibile performance. The best in years, his voice was never thin like on FOAM. He didn't strain on Still Breathing, for the first time and it's amazing. I don't understand where you hear Autotune on Basket case btw. Dunno.
Karol Oliveira Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I rewatched the performance and my opinion is that American Football is weird! 😄 So, if Green Day channel uploaded the video montage, I doubt we'll a GD only version of it
