Of all performances to pick for a wider audience, I don’t think it showed them in the best light but opinions differ

I am sure they will forget when we get their next live performance whenever that is. Artists can have off days, too much to drink, whatever. He can forget lyrics, he is human! The only thing they did wrong here was choosing Oh Yeah. People are too sensitive for how Fox mentioned Green Day, who the fuck cares, let Green Day get offended, not the fans. They should of just left them off the show tbh This is probably the one and only time I will ever agree with you on anything LOL. I love this site but I agree that too often people create too much drama out of nothing. I love what you said about them being human. People forget that celebrities are humans too at the end of the day and occasionally will screw up something like all of us. Green Day has given hundreds if not thousands of performances over 30 years; most were great but sometimes they weren't at their best and they are allowed to have those days. The fans aren't entitled to perfection. I also agree about Fox. They never made clear whether it would be a new or old performance. They could have picked a better song, and trolling fans was stupid, but Fox is stupid LOL. Nothing to see here people.
Beerjeezus
I don't understand what's dramatic about simply not liking a performance.

No one has to like it. It's about acting like their career is over because they gave one bad show, acting like they deliberately gave a bad performance to insult their fans, etc. (You haven't suggested any of this, but others have). That sense of entitlement and acting grievously wronged if you don't get the quality of show you wanted gets annoying fast.

I don't think anyone is convinced they give bad performances on purpose or that their career is over, but it's not unreasonable to be disappointed. I don't go to Green Day shows to watch them mess up every song they play. At a show, I would be caught in the moment enough to not notice a lot, but this show reaches the level when it would most likely be noticeable.

I mean, I have watched it a bunch of times and somehow it's not that noticeable to me--and I'm a pretty detail-picky person. It's fine if people have different opinions about the show. But when people start writing stuff here like "they don't care" and acting really angry about it, that just seems like too much. I get how people would be disappointed when the show isn't what they hoped for, but at the end of the day you have to realize that even if they are rich and famous rock stars, they are still people and people sometimes make mistakes. Forgive me if my first thought when I see someone I admire not acting like himself is "Gee, I hope he is OK" and not "Wow, this show sucks and I am so pissed off about it." This is why I bristle when people bitch about the fangirls thread. They act like we are treating the guys like sex objects, while they just treat them like robots who exist solely to crank out music and entertain us flawlessly. Yes, they are rich and famous rock stars, but they are also human beings who have value outside their work. Who knows, maybe Billie was still mourning the loss of his dog during that show. Maybe he was worrying about his elderly mother getting covid (which was already in California at that time). He has a right to think about something other than music. Beerjeezus
The thing is, it's kind of awkward to discuss the possibly quite private stuff publicly, because I don't want to spread gossip. I don't want to log on tumblr to see people talking about how some kid on twitter posted about how some person on a forum came out with Perfectly Reliable Insider Info about how Billie is on HEROIN or something and it will end up being me. But that doesn't mean I don't care.

Nobody should spread rumors about the very real and personal issues of others, since It could make an already stressful situation all the worse. What I meant to say was that there should be no problem to say something along the lines of “I hope everything is okay”. 4

No one should be spreading rumors or speculating on personal things. But we should be able to talk about the band members with some empathy. Treat them like full people instead of music-producing machines. It's not complicated.

I agree the reaction you got in your thread was very blown up, especially because you only mentioned something that was obvious. I assume we all can agree that we wish them well so there shouldn't be outrage about someone saying so.

Personally, it just makes me a little sad because I really care about them and it seemed like Billie was fumbling things a lot more than just making one mistake here or there. Usually I'm one of those people who thinks a performance is great when a lot of others are complaining about tiny details like how Billie didn't hit a note just right or something. This was a little different, though. At least to me. I was not disappointed with the performance, just concerned. I really do hope he was just having an off day and that everything's okay with him. That would be the best scenario. I just get scared that he's slowing down and doesn't have the memory he used to or that something else is going on when there's a performance like this. He's only going to be 49 so he's honestly still pretty young, but the years do catch up to you at some point I suppose and he does have a super physically and mentally taxing job. Now that I think about it, it's actually incredibly impressive how much energy and athleticism all of them DO still have after over 30 years of doing this. I certainly couldn't even come close to that kind of stamina. At the same time, seeing how amazingly well they perform on a consistent basis makes times when they're not doing so hot really stand out. Especially when it's an uncharacteristically large number of mistakes in a relatively short set. Okay, I'm done now. I realize I did go into some super over-analysis here, but I just needed to get that out. 3
