Anyone else think Van Gough's voice sounds super weak on Trans Am compared to his parts on MM2020, You're Wrong, and Tarantula? Weird

Yes. It is very odd.

Sorry, should have said official The Network channel, others have uploaded unofficially.

I’ve just realised, Fentanyl is the offspring of New Order and Gary Numan 😂

i wonder why FINKie joe armstrong decided to put out both, ep and lp, instead of just releasing a full new network lp 🤔

And if they have physical releases of both, I guess I'd have to buy em
Cause the Trans Am cover art is sick

Giving Trans AM a test drive.

On my second time around the block and Flat Earth is my favorite so far.

Some lyrical motifs are coming back (it's you....it's you....)

For the longest time I’ve been complaining about Green Day and the fact that they don’t seem to write and sing together like they used to, they just play on Billie’s songs. Well The Network is that collaborative effort I’ve been wanting. They are so much stronger when they all contribute 💚💚💚

It would be interesting to know how The Network write songs. Is Van Gough the main songwriter? Do all six people write music and lyrics?

We really have no idea.

Studio footage of this band would be so much fun to watch.   Do they record in the masks?

One thing we do know is that the FBHT album was a true collaboration, they all wrote it together in one night or something. It was intended partly to blow off steam and as a creative exercise to free themselves in preparation to write the  AI follow up. I would imagine the Network project was much the same, something they all worked on together to get the creative juices flowing after coming out of a rough patch where Billie felt like he was doing all the work. It was shortly after they expressly agreed to work together more. The question is, have they hit another stage like that (it seems to me they have) and is this album now an attempt to recreate that dynamic again for the same reasons?

I'm gonna do my best to avoid listening to this until the full album is out so I can go in as blind as possible

Not sure how successful I'll be though

Decisions are decisions and I don't want to tell you what to do, but I recommend you to seize the day and listen to it today 😉

Fentanyl maybe is a FOAM leftover re worked for The Network

I thought the same the very first time. Sounds too retro, closer to the FOAM style.

I liked the ep. I hope the rest is equally good :)

And for the "group effort" thing, Mike already said that BJ is a hell of a songwriter, a good player and a competent drummer, so isn't strange that he writes most of the stuff, and usually it works the best for them. But that doesn't mean that Green Day is under "BJ's dictatorship". If that was the case, then BJ wouldn't say things like "I'd like to Mike to sing more". They are a band, and in a band, music comes first. Whatever works for making consistent songs is good. Then if that means that BJ does most songs, so be it.

I'm just happy that everyone likes Flat Earth. I feel like this makes up for nobody liking Hungry Hungry Models.

I love Hungry Hungry Models!

The one observation that I have is that these songs sound a lot more serious than the original record. Flat Earth is a funny song, but it sounds less “memey”. I wonder if they involved someone as a producer (and if it was Butch Walker).

Totally agree and noticed it too. Though I think they produced it themselves, maybe it’s just that its been 17 years ya know...

Or it’s that. They’ve grown musically. Either way, these sound a lot more like a real deal new wave band.

I too am enjoying Fentanyl a lot although I'm struggling to figure out what Fink is saying

Flat earth is classic Snoo humour, I love it
