They really kept the “secret” going for almost 20 years, only to come back in 2020 just like they promised. Amazing.

There was an interview with Mike a few years ago where he forgot to keep up the act and mentioned something about being in the Network. Everyone else kept the secret going, but Mike slipped up!

After lots of listens im convinced the first song is legit too. It definitely sounds like Billie’s guitar work too, lyrics, style of melodies. Plus it would be so much of a coincidence to be leaked around the same time the announcement was made, this was all well thought and planned.

That would be interesting, because to me it sounded nothing like The Network. Who knows. I Wonder when we Will get the album?

I agree. The only argument against is - Billie would certainly come up with a catchier hook, wouldn’t he :P

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! :runaround:

I've listened to both songs and I am completely convinced that they are real. The Ultimate Test is unmistakably Billie. There are certain very subtle inflections he has when he sings certain words and notes and this for sure sounds like him. I've listened to his voice long enough to pick those little things out.

I think The Ultimate Test is fucking amazing! I don't know why people are saying it seems lazy. If fucking rocks! Not all Network songs are super duper 80s new wave. They certainly have some that are more rock n roll and this fits well.

I think The Prophecy is funny, but I don't care for it very much aesthetically, which is weird because I absolutely love The Network's record.

Yeah, it's clearly Billie. If it isn't, then who ever sang did a pretty good Job.

the elements of the voice that sounds like BJ aren't the elements that someone would typically try to nail in an impression. And even if they did want to try, it would be impossible. In this leak it's the actual tone of the voice that sounds like him, not the accent. It sounds like him trying to sound less like himself rather than someone trying to sound more like him.

Exactly! There are things about his voice that can't be mimicked and can't be hidden even if he tries. He just has such a unique way of singing. I don't remember what interview it's from, but I believe it was Michael Mayer (?) who said something along the lines of how Billie's voice is particularly special because when he sings he draws it directly from his heart. You may be talking about the technical elements of his voice, but there are many emotional elements as well that can't be matched or faked.

MOOTIK flashback:wub:

I think I'm one of the very few people on here who has never been really crazy about The Network, it's okay for me but I don't really like the style. But this is still exciting, every distraction from the daily pandemic routine is welcome, so bring it on, whatever it is!

That's what we thought about the MOOTIK leaks as well.

Yeah, but "The Ultimate Test" is a full song, not cherry-picked clips. The full MOOTIK songs sound nothing like Green Day. This one on the other hand, is reminiscent of The Network's Roshambo style with a 2020 spin in it.

If it isn't Green Day, whatever. We'll just have to wait and see if they do release Money Money 2020 Part II.

About “the ultimate test” video on YouTube (foxborohottub is Bill Schneider)

Now, he could be lying, but he warned many times about MOOTIK being fake.

Well, though I was there when The Network was released in 2003, the band never had been my cup of tea and I just got into the band's style a couple of years ago... Well, it's great to see their comeback now, wouldn't be a perfect time for it, and I am totally on board on this.

I just love this guys never stop making music

Well even from text and the context one can assume sarcasm. There's a difference between "Damn, I just lost the game...." and "Totally...."

With that said you just lost the game.

Yeah, just listened to The Ultimate Test. It's actually a very good song, but I'm not convinced it's The Network.

if you slow it down and listen with earbuds its clearly not green day and the playing is too amateurish . place egg on face .

That "Ultimate Test" song sounds extremely legitimate. I'd be shocked if it isn't real. 1. The production sounds expensive and isn't just something that sounds like it could be big budget when when we eventually hear a clearer recording. It's right up front and not disguised by anything. 2. The tonality of the very first chord extremely hard to fake (listen to it a few times in a row) - there's something very signature in the initial attack of powerchord, bass, kick & crash that is very unique to GD, similar bands with identical instrumentation/production don't even come close. Same thing with that Green Day "swing". It's hard to explain, but by "swing" I mean how they play off of each other on top of a click track. So even though their music is usually to click, they almost all veer slightly off of the click in an identical way with each other. It's very hard to imitate how another person interprets tempo & then recreate their feel. And 3. the elements of the voice that sounds like BJ aren't the elements that someone would typically try to nail in an impression. And even if they did want to try, it would be impossible. In this leak it's the actual tone of the voice that sounds like him, not the accent. It sounds like him trying to sound less like himself rather than someone trying to sound more like him. It's almost how he'd sound if he tried to sing in the style of a British new-wave, Modern English-esque band. I'm surprised this wasn't a bigger deal. It was probably meant to be found & discussed.

A few parts that give away that it's legit:

 0:17 - “band starts” lyric

0:24 - "being gone"

0:38 -"sound"

0:42 - (friend? I dunno the lyric but the voice is starting to break & go into slight falsetto at a G into G# which is the exact notes BJ’s voice usually react the same way at. GD songs typically don’t go higher than a G# unless it’s falsetto)

1:12 - "I remember"

1:29 - Dunno the lyric but the fall from the B flat to G# is in other GD songs

1:36 - "gone"

2:28 - (this whole bit)

3:43 - "test"

3:50 - all the “answer” harmonies in the left channel sound like the new-wave accent isn’t as strong since they’re buried in the mix

I don’t know, Braedon. We’ve been burned before you see. So do you absolutely swear this isn’t you? 🤨
