The Network is back!

If by chance it is actually a Green Day song, then maybe The Church Of Lushotology is the next Green Day album, while Money Money 2020 part 2 is the next Network album.

Dunno, Warner can take down videos just because they have the name of an actual band AND of one of their songs, so if they pretend to be an actual song which they are not. We know this for sure, if you remember the whole “fake Bang Bang videos” episode before the Bang Bang release. What I don’t know is if they can take that down only for the use of The Network name (so if the song title and content of course is fake), or for the Lushotology image (that would be very weird, not even sure if that image is copyrighted, and it’s anyway used in many unofficial videos on YT).

I would still be very very very surprised if those are not the Network for how the song sounds tho.

not even sure if that image is copyrighted

All works of art are protected by copyright the second you make them. But it's also definitely registered too.

By copyrighted I meant registered by Warner, cause I think a claim to YT would not be that straight forward otherwise. And I would not be that certain about registration. But maybe this is just bullshit overthinking, not entirely sure how these copyright claims are handled nowadays on YT.

Also I'm trying to find the trademark for it but I'm having trouble. It's not under a search for "lushotology". But to be fair I can't find The Network's trademark either. But I can find FBHT and ofc GD. Not sure why this is.

Also, fun fact, Green Day lists their "first use in commerce" of that name as 1989-04-03, while the TM was originally filed April 1994. No idea the exact significance of that date as no shows on setlist.fm correspond to it.

A YT claim is as simple as filling out a form. You could do it rn. It's perjury if you're not who you claim to be, but people commit perjury sometimes. I've had it happen to me lmao

I'm as certain as you can be that they have it registered with the copyright office. 99.99999% certainty. Trademark slightly less likely but still much more probable than not. Big companies don't fuck around protecting their brand, there is no "this isn't important enough". Everything is registered by default, no matter how small.

If the The Ultimate Test is fake, I can see the reasoning behind WMG taking the videos down being that it was taking too much attention away from the real Network promotions.

If it's fake then they'd have no grounds to take it down (at least in videos *not* otherwise containing copyrighted imagery, none of which I've seen taken down so far). It's not a copyright violation to sound like Billie/GD in immaterial ways.

Claiming to be GD/Network is a dissemination of trademark issue, but that's not within the scope of a DMCA not something Youtube gets involved in.

I remember at the start of revrad era, when we just found out the name of the lead single - Bang Bang, somebody did an acoustic song about how he was banging someone's mom and called the youtube video Green Day - Bang Bang. It was taked down by warner...

That was probably Youtube's algorithm, since everything related to Bang Bang was getting nuked. Which isn't legal but what are you gonna do. As opposed to here where only one video got stricken, which is definitely manual (although not necessarily actually from Warner).

Yeah the other video of TUT, which did not feature the CoL logo, was also taken down. So the only grounds for it being removed would be either it being copyrighted material or the name 'The Network' being used.

And surely two bands can have the same name? Not sure on that one, but certainly seems a thin base for taking it down.

I am however fairly certain that it's incredibly easy to DMCA content on YouTube, and it's possible that Warner just know nobody would bother fighting it. I might upload the track with nothing related in the title and no video and see if it gets content id'd.

Todd already tested auto content id and it didn't get caught, so it was manual.

The only two (reasonable) scenarios are that Warner took it down because the audio is copyrighted, or someone else took it down and put Warner's name cause that's actually really easy to do. Warner might have taken it down illegitimately knowing there's no consequences but idk enough about their track record to say.

Agreed. Just fiddled with the YouTube DMCA stuff a bit and tried to take down my own video, and it's impossible to issue a takedown request based on a name being used by anyone else. Use of copyrighted logo is possible but the other video of the song didn't include that.

So yeah it's either Warner taking it down because they own it or somebody else claiming to be Warner trying to mess with us.

They took down Bang Bang (Your Mom) for copyright reasons...

that said, if anyone has saved TUT and wouldn’t mind sharing with me, I’d be thankful!

Could TUT maybe be something like what happened to 21st Century breakdown but did it on purpose this time?

Btw I am still mourning  that piano intro

As if 2020 wasn't bad enough you had to remind me of the piano intro?! I played that shit on repeat and was super bummed when the album released without that intro.
