Shifting the mood completely:

What if this new album is subpar? I mean, it's possible that they'd make one good one and get lazy.

I’ve heard it, and I assure you it’s incredible.  Edit- the song not the album. Poorly worded! But the song is one of the best in quite some time. 😁

The track and a half we've heard so far seem promising imo

I don't think I believe you. But I'm open to being wrong...

The Ultimate Test give me hope for a new Green Day album

It's a banger!

I wouldn’t worry about that, it sounds like you’re gonna love new Network album

No. I think that's what makes it funnier.

This is quite the scramble in catching up given how fast the thread is moving, but doesn’t it seem the snippet last night was pretty in line with traditional Network songs, while Ultimate Test is much more developed and polished? It’s a much more complex structure and developed lyrics, and the production is different as well.

To me, this sounds like it’s much more fitting for a broad release/ reception than the original Network set. Notice how I didn’t use mainstream, but I guess it’s a bit more that as well.

Certainly not a complaint, I think this is fantastic and some of the best new stuff I’ve heard in a long time. And much needed right now!

Honestly I was thinking they could release this as Green Day and have an alternative radio hit. It’s almost a shame this is going to be such an under the radar limited release.

I like the idea of it flying under the radar. Like a fun little secret for us superfans

Just thinking, so we believe some of the Network songs like Roshambo were written for Green Day first and not used I wonder when they wrote this one and whether The Ultimate Test was one of the songs left off FOAM because it didn’t fit or was written for Green Day initially.  The YouTube leak notes say it was recorded last February so it would have been part of the FOAM sessions. It just sounds so borderline Green Day it could have been and then they decided to write new Network material. So like Roshambo it could explain why it sounds like the least Network song of the bunch (if it will).

I think this theory is highly plausible. But then, assuming this is Billie singing, why does his voice sound very different?

If it does, I've never noticed. Sounds like regular Billie to me.

He went out of his way to sound different on all the FOAM songs. Father of All is as different as they come, that really didn’t sound like him. I don’t think this sounds as different as that, but it’s as different as the FOAM sessions overall and he said that was his intent then.

On FOAMF, he just singing falsetto and trying to add a bit of soul, but it still sounds like him at it's core. On the Ultimate Test, it doesn't even sound like him. It sounds like a whole different person.

Apparently we aren't allowed to say that on here or we are idiots.

I agree when it comes to the side projects and little games, but when the music is this good a part of me wants to see them get all the success and accolades that should come with it (not to mention the money)

We’ll just have to agree to disagree then and leave it there. It sounds very much like Billie to me. On Father of All I didn’t recognize him.
