New album theory

What I appreciate about FOAM is it felt like for once Green Day realized not everything had to be an epic album. This time it felt like they did something new and just enjoyed themselves and I'm all for that. Yeah, it would be great to get something big and impactful again, but if the next album is fun, catchy, and risky like FOAM I'm all for it.

I don't feel like RevRad was "epic" either

True, it's not but it still felt like they were trying to get back to basics with that record since The Trilogy wasn't a hit. As much as I love RevRad I can see why people felt like it was a safe record. FOAM saw them take bigger risks.

I think they should make an album focused on social issues, rather than political.

I’ve been saying for ages that they make many more songs about social issues than politics but @BillieMyLove is right, everything is being politicised.

Unpopular opinion:
I want them to make an album that fills their current creative sparks/passions.

Agreed. An artist should always write about/create whatever inspires them, not what others think they should do. It comes out feeling forced otherwise and can't be totally fulfilling for them.

I keep typing up these long, rambling posts about what the new album will be, and then deleting them.

The album is going to be CALLED Theory.   Lame.

Disco record with bizarre song writing and put through a Metallica filter instead of the ole fashion Green Day one.

I would say I need a hobby, but I've got like 30.   I'm just a dork.

Haha.

It's terrible, but is it really worse than Drama Queen?

😅

It's not cause I think there are small redeeming factors with Teenage Teenager. It's not a complete song but there are pieces that I could isolate that are actually interesting.

Needs some Oh Yeah

That's what I was thinking.   A reworking of "OH YEAH!"  with Metallica and the symphony backing them up instead of the Gary Glitter stuff.   We may as well bring Bono in on this one too.

Yeah I have to agree here. I will take TT over DQ any day, but I will take literally anything from RevRad over TT.

It must be an unpopular opinion, but I like both Drama Queen and I Was A Teenage Teenager very much, because of nice melodies and vibe.

Out of all albums after 21CB, which was superior to all of them (in my opinion), Revolution Radio is the best, then comes FOAM, and separate Trilogy albums, however I would choose three combined Trilogy albums over FOAM.

Yes.   We're going to make this a "We are the World" type song where way too many people sing.   It'll be great.

You and I.   Green Day, Mettallica, LL Cool J, Dan Aykroyd and then.....Billie Eilish....Donald Trump......and....Robert Pattinson.   He was in a Green Day video that one time so he's a great choice.  Billie and Donald wear each others trademark look and they have a civil conversation and it's all very funny.

And THEN.

Track 2 through 14 kick things up into HIGH GEAR, with Green Day FIRING.  ON. ALL. CYLINDERS.   making the BEST.  MUSIC. OF.  THEIR. CAREER.   and saying how everyone says that, but THEY really mean it because blah blah whatever.   Ya know?

Green Day form an orchestra and make a record with them.  But unlike other bands, Green Day make new music with the classical element in the writing process.

Lol

I'm obsessed with this new Metallica album.  Been listening to so much metal and classical music, it's crazy.

So Green Day need the metal and classical element so they can "put it through their filter".

Picture it:

Green Day hypes up a new song. The whole fanbase is at the edge of their seats. It finally releases. But...
1) It's just a cover of Megalovania
2) It's literally just Billie humming it awkwardly

Spoiler

I mean fuck I'd take it over Fire Ready Aim

As long as it's not a Christmas record, I will be happy.

Hey, remember before American Idiot they said they recorded dirty Christmas songs? They should remove the Christmasy parts and release THAT.

Maybe get some swedish songwriters and producers.   All the things they didn't have on Foam and made fun of - do it all.    Make the feel good record of the year, with trap beats, the sweds, outside songwriters (listed as the outsiders!).

Yep.

Yes, I've got it now.

Features.   on every track.    I'm talking Kendrick Lamer, Cardi B, and every rapper ever.

Every song written by Swedish Songwriters.   No Billie Joe song writing.

Except for that one pop-country song about blindly supporting your country's leader, it's all trap beats.     And even that one is a pop-country-trap fusion.   It's pretty great.

Then of course, absolutely ZERO percent uncut rock.    This is the cuttest, least rockingest album ever.   Nothing on here is remotely rock in any way.

The vocals will be autotuned beyond belief.   People will be unsure if this is even Billie Joe singing and a lot of folks it's just a Cardi B record.

And while Mike and Tre will be on the album cover (with Billie Joe being absent from the shot for some reason!), it is not known what musical efforts they made on the album.   There doesn't seem to be any bass or drums on the entire thing.

Well there was the trilogy, 3 albums of exactly that plus RevRad which was more of an ultimate GD fan love letter with just a little bit of everything they do really well combined into one great album and a standard running time.

And yeah then there was FOAM and I don't know about you guys but I am kind of over these small mixed bag albums (besides RevRad because that was amazing imo)...

I am ready for a new Rock Opera.

It doesn't have to be anything as ambitious as AI or 21CB, just something that has love and care put into it, a few bangers and some nice song transitions (I miss those).

I mean I'd personally like to hear GD pull off some more The Who inspired material, or stuff inspired by classic rock in general but to be honest I will take anything that isn't arguably a joke album which is full of mostly mediocre songs.

Have any of you seen Mike's new Instagram post? A friend mentioned how Billie had written some material after the release of FOAMF, (about six songs), and we got to thinking. I think that perhaps, there could be a new EP in production? I mean, with the postponing and cancellation of Hella Mega, they could be working on something. Just my thoughts!

I sure hope they are making use of this downtime and working on something, but what does Mike’s IG post have to do with that theory?

My guess is that they are using the left over songs from FOAM that they have been talking about for so long, writing a few more songs to go with them (the ones mentioned in this post), throwing that on a CD and calling it a day until the next album.

Of course this is not what I hope for (I personally want something more focused and fully realized) but considering we have yet to hear any of the aforementioned songs I feel like this is more than likely going to be the case.

Could be, but that has nothing to do with Mike’s latest Instagram post...
