Do any of you find it strange that Billie is doing this without Mike & Tre? They could play remotely but together. With such a big event I’m just surprised.

This^ I'd like to see them together. It just doesn't seem okay, 'cause if Billie can do it, why not Mike and Tré? But who knows what's they arrangement between them.

It would be so easy for them to join in from home. Mike is posting pics of jigsaw puzzles they’ve been doing. It wouldn’t even take that much prep. They were ready to go on tour so why this disappearance by them? It’s weird to me.

It's weird for me too. And Tré is the one who posts even less :( Maybe they're worried for the whole quarantine situation? That's the only thing I thought of.

Yes. I see other bands make videos and do appearances together yet apart, it’s not hard to do. Yet since this began Billie has done everything himself. It makes me wonder whether this is not a new development and how much he has actually done himself in recent years and it’s only just apparent now.

I wasn’t finding it so weird until the last flurry of activity from Billie but nothing at all from Mike and Tre.  I kind of assumed they would have posted something maybe on IG saying  great covers or nice performance, something acknowledging their friend and band mate but not a thing.  Nothing from Jason either mind so maybe it’s policy or something?

It doesn’t really surprise me. It’s seemed like Billie is the one who’s the most creative and active in the band for a while. Maybe now they just went for it and are letting Billie do “his thing” while he also gets full credit.

I think it‘a just because Billie is the „face“ of Green Day, and playing together vis Skype is quite complicated I think 😅

Currently is Billie Feat. Mike and Tre rather than Green Day

Jason Freese did that music video with his kids

The practicalities of that are fairly difficult tho to have them all play in sync live together over the internet, with time delay and stuff. I've always found it hard whenever I tried although I'm not a professional musician.

They don’t play live, they each record their tracks and send them to one source where they get put together and then just film themselves miming their tracks like a music video.  Like the Manic Monday video. If he can do it with Susanna Hoffs he can do it with Mike and Tre.

I'm also wondering if Mike and Tre just aren't up for it with everything going on. Maybe doing the covers and such helps Billie, but the other two may not have that energy and maybe they just want to focus on spending time with their families.

I think this might be the main reason. Mike and Tre both have young kids at home to watch/spend time with/do that dreaded homeschool thing, where Billie's are both adults.

even under normal circumstances it was Billie on his own who recorded the longshot covers so I guess it’s natural he brought it back now

Also, maybe Mike and Tré don’t have home studios, I mean, why would they if Billie is the one writting the first drafts of any new songs?

Haven’t I also read that Jakob/Joey weren’t around at the moment since they were touring in Europe when all of this started? So he’s basically at home with Adrienne and infinite free time.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it not being a Billie + Mike + Tré thing.

He may have just recorded ’I think we’re alone now’ as a one off cause he was bored and it ended up being a thing, which caused him to be invited to all of these things(iHeart, Jimmy Fallon, Global citizen..)

All you need is a computer not a home studio. Any kid in his bedroom can record music tracks.

Looks like Joan Jett just teamed up with the Blackhearts when she certainly could have released the song on her own

I get that(I was a kid recording stuff in my bedroom 10 years ago), but we can agree that

a) Billies recordings sound way better than this Joan Jett video(because he has  proper equipment at home)

b) recording drums is more of an hassle than guitars and vocals. It requires multiple microphones, a mixer/interface

c) As I said Billie has pretty much just that to do right now(vs. Tre/Mike who have young kids)

d) Billie has already done that in the past and when questioned about wether Green Day was ending he just said « I’m a musician, that’s my job, that’s what I do, so don’t worry about Green Day »

e) Green Day has released something official 5 days ago so I don’t get why there’d be something to worry about

Lots of people are making these same arguments but I’m still not convinced. Yeah Mike and Tre have kids but they’re still home with them and on the whole lately see them a lot more than most dads who spend 40-60 hours a week in an office. These guys are off and home for months at a stretch. And they have wives they’re not single parents and have had kids and families all through their careers I don’t think kids has anything to do with this.  Playing and recording music takes about as much time as doing a jigsaw puzzle.

And to the other point I’m not expressing worry that Green Day is ending, I know they are still releasing things under the Green Day name but my point is that the Otis Mix is Green Day in name only when we know Billie did it all himself (the mix I mean not the original recordings from 2011-2012 obviously) It’s not that they couldn’t collaborate, my theory is that for whatever reason (but it’s not the kids) Mike and Tre simply don’t want to. Maybe they have no interest in the trilogy or cover songs I don’t know, but they won’t even promote these things on their socials much less participate in them.  At a minimum there’s nothing to explain that. Would it take time away from their kids to make an instagram post about this “Green Day” release?

Yes, sorry, I meant Jason White.  He never posts much anyway.

So aside from seeing the other guys on the screen there’s not really any difference in the actual performance then?

They would record their tracks so yes the difference is they are all performing on the song, you know, as a band.

Yeah I guess it would be nice, but as it’s a cover isn’t the end of the world when the parts wouldn’t change

I totally agree with this.  I think Mike and Tre just view this as family time.  Billie doesn't have kids at home and needs something else to keep busy.  Billie has said without music he would have no idea what to do with himself.  So he does covers and writes songs while the other guys spend time with their families.  I think it's as simple as that.

I agree. It seems Mike and Tré have gradually become less involved. It might be that they’re giving Billie creative freedom and they go with ideas he brings up, but it also evolved into Billie becoming more of a solo artist. They said they used to argue about Billie making decisions and doing what he wanted, now this doesn’t look like something that might happen. He’s releasing stuff he’s recorded on his own and it’s no big deal. It’s like they’re letting him do what he wants.
