He was one of only a few who played their own songs. Most of them did covers. I think only him, Rolling Stones and Elton John played their own music. I guess the alternative was he could have played I Think We're Alone Now.

So you’re implying that he has no punk left in him whatsoever? :( i just remembered his quote about being punk an being mainstream. I don’t think he needed to care what other people thought of him. I’m just bored with overplayed songs

I get what you’re saying, personally I’d love to hear a new song from FOAM or a deep cut, but this was a big public event so it makes sense he went with a hit that everyone knows. Plus the overall mood of the event was rather serious, so WMUWSE fit that.

I mean, I would laugh my ass off if he played Fuck Time, but the general response would be “people are dying and you sing about choking someone, disgusting!!!”

The celebs that tried (and failed) to be uplifting by singing Imagine got absolutely crucified. I'm not surprised Billie went down a safer route.

Billie has some nice windows.  Take that however you like.

He should shoot his own episodes of Cribs.

And yes, he should play F-Time.  Followed by the Grouch.

He should do something on piano next time.

Billie has windows into his soul and that are called songs.

Good morning.

And if he had, most people watching would have thought him an insensitive asshole.

1. Wake me up when September ends is an uplifting song.

2. This performance was nothing to do with promotion of the new album or playing something rare, it was bigger and more important than all of that. Playing something familiar, something people at home would know and respond to was the way to go.

My girl Taylor Swift sang her song "Soon you'll get better".

I would have love to heard "No Time To Die" by Billie Eilish tho.

Absolutely. And people have a very strong reaction to songs that are familiar and nostalgic. If he played something no one but hard core fans know, it would have not had much of a general impact. This song was the perfect choice.

And those three totally nailed it, perfect song choices.

Did anyone else hear the girl who sang a song called Coffin, yes all about dying and coffins!  Wow, that was some choice!

Not everyone knows who Billie is.  Wake me up was a good choice. Having a Blast would have been better lol. I was excited to see him on the A list!

Jessie Reyez's Coffin single featuring Eminem is fucking amazing, I'm glad she did that than some safer single, but we got WMUWSE for millionth time lol

Last Night On Earth would have been better and not scary at all.

I disagree. I guess WMUWSE does fit very well, but I liked the more uplifting performances. Like Lady Gaga performing Smile was nice. He didn't have to do something like Longview, but I'm already depressed, WMUWSE made everything worse and just made the whole thing super sappy and depressing much like the previous event he was a part of.

I don’t agree with song decision. Am I supposed to sit and cry over me and other people being stuck at home? He should have given something more uplifting and fun. Meet me on the roof would have been great. But if you are concrete going into depressing mode he could have played lazy bones, brutal love or Macy’s day parade. Let the song rest for a while

I agree in part. I think the song fit the event, but I really wanted something uplifting and fun. I understand what we're going through is serious and it sucks a lot. But is it bad that I want to hear something a bit more uplifting? It also hurts because now I can't listen to the song for personal reasons so it was a hard performance to watch.

I find the uplifting song covers very corny and annoying. I'm not usually a fan of straight up sugary lyrics anyway, and I usually gravitate to things that feel genuine. I honestly find most of these celebrity reactions to be annoying. Gaga incessantly crying "for the world" is either very scripted or she has a few gears missing in her head for hallucinogen use. I felt WMUWSE is very appropriate. It's a sad sounding song with an uplifting message of overcoming loss. I never thought about it that way until today. It's a song about accepting what has happened in order to cope with it. People often try to sugar coat the negative ("Oh you're so beautiful, you're the best, you'll have an amazing life") instead of using acceptance and truth. Tangent, but I think the song choice is a good one.

Nice performance. As for the song choice who's to say whether it's better to go with a more serious/slow song or a more lighthearted/upbeat one, there's no hard and fast rule for which is going to work better. Maybe he doesn't happen to be in a very upbeat mood? I think what matters is it's a heartfelt performance.

Also I didn't know being punk or not was defined by whether someone picks a slow or fast or old or new song to play

Oh my god, I honestly thought about 'what if he played Fuck Time?' 😂 I knew to expect BOBD or WMUWSE, but secretly wanted it to be something stupid and dirty.
