I don’t know the answer to this, but there is all kind of special technology now. I have hearing aids (genetic hearing loss). And as a nurse, I can buy a special stethoscope that works through my hearing aids.

That Dude
I took notes. Good thing Billie had the lyrics written on the ceiling (at the 33 second mark). He's written about ceiling and written ON ceilings. DUH. Long lost WHAT? I don't think even Billie knows. He's a long lost hove. holoove. I dunno. The first go around, he wanted to sing that high "only the lonely and wasted" but decided against it......and then he did it! Not high, but still. I really need a Billie Joe solo career to just go ahead and kick things off. We can get Billie Joe albums on odd years and Green Day records on even ones. 2021: Billie Joe presents American Idiot. But without the cool Tre and Mike parts. 2022: Green Day XIV 2023: The Teal Billie Joe Album: Greatest Covers Collection 2024: Green Day XV: Apple Blossom Morons 2025: Billie Joe and Lady Cobra do the MMbop. 2026: Green Day drop an wild album called Pinhead Green Day Work. It's a combination of The Foxboro Hot Tubs and Rodeo Queen. 2027: Billie Joe makes a releases one song a day for the rest of time. Some are him. Some are Green Day. Slave To The Network
I know a lot of people are saying that this sounded pretty rough, but that just makes me love it even more. It's Billie's pure, raw, unfiltered voice and I think it's beautiful. He's singing from his heart. So what if it's not recording studio perfect? It still sounds outstanding. I'm so glad he's doing this.

His current raw, unfiltered voice sounds like absolute garbage. Let's not fangirl/boy over this. Let's perform an objective analysis of his vocal performance, which was shit by any musical metric. Listen to him sing during 21CB tour. Now listen to how he sounds currently. You simply cannot compare the two. Years of poor decision making and abuse of his body/mind has led to this. It was always going to catch up with him, sadly it has caught him now. I then see that he is still drinking and smoking and I feel extremely let down. The junkie has come down from his high and he could very well be the next Rock'n'Roll tragedy. What a waste of talent.

I don’t really take issue with his vocals as long as they’re in tune. Yeah, this sounds kind of raw and he’s definitely sounded smoother in the past, but it doesn’t bother me too much. That said, I like Bob Dylan and John Darnielle and lots of punk singers, so it’s not like I insist on perfect vocals. Calling this a waste of talent is a big exaggeration. Plus if this is how it caught up to him, he could do a lot worse.

Thatsername
What I love even more than the fact that he performed my favourite song of the new album is the fact that he looks so happy and positive doing it. I'm struggling with that concept myself right now, so happy Billie and positive energy is just what I need 🙏
That Dude
I am loving these Billie Joe songs, and hope they keep coming. It takes the length of a song to do something like that. But now would be a good time for some more FOAM singles too! There are so many ways to make a Green Day music video without getting people together. Make it appear as if the band is together. Or just have shots of each one playing in isolation. Videos of the guys as teenage teenagers teenaging would be cool for one of the songs. Take the Money and Crawl, perhaps? Six more singles and we can call this era good. Oh yeah, and then RE-release Fire Ready Aim and Meet me on the Roof again with alternate videos. I'm not asking a lot. OH! and due to the corona virus and delays, all Hella Mega seats should now be 15 bucks. I'm talking VIP booth, dinner with Mike Dirnt. 15 bucks. And if you want dinner with all the guys, it is EVEN CHEAPER. 2 dollas. oh and Green Day XIV, XV and XVI all should come out earlier than planned. They'll be a trilogy for a new decade. After the 37 singles from THAT are released, we can start looking at a 2021 release for a sextet of album called the Booga Booga Booga Bombastic Boogie Woogie Punk Selection: American Morons. Later in 2021, we can get GREEN DAY XXII. It will be called Stupid People who Can't Sleep.

You're absolutely right about his voice but I think the reason is very different and simple really. I think Billie thinks too much about how he sings and he's abusing his vocal chords to the point that he sings unnecessary high and strains them a lot and the lack of depth is a result of that. I think it started when he was writting 21st Century Breakdown when he decided to sing higher. If you compare AI and 21st Century Breakdown you can hear it how he kinda lost the low end and that signature attitude. It's almost like two different voices. He sung higher in Warning and Nimrod too which I hope proves my point. The difference between 21st CB and later albums is that his higher vocals kinda suited the epicness of 21st CB. That tour was absolutely stunning and he sounded like a master class for the most part. Everytime I listen to Before the Lobotomy or 21 Guns I'm amazed how effortless it seems and how great he actually can be. So the conclusion is that I think it's a conscious effort but it doesn't sound very good.

It seems he’s decided to use higher registers of his voice, but it often results in having to strain too much. He sounds more natural and smoother using his lower voice. (It’s like 40% of his voice is gone due to low pass or something even when he’s not using filters lol) I don’t know much about singing but I’d say it’s more about his vocal technique than the songs he writes because he played Graffitia a third lower (in G instead of Bb) and it still has that “BJ high-pitched voice” sound

I wonder why he thinks it’s good. There’s also a thing about anxiety that tightens vocal chords and causes voice changes. I think that it plays a role in his higher voice too. dannygreen
I can't really understand the fuss about his voice, he's great very skilled and very on point on vocals He developed a great technique through the years, that's why he can sing higher than before; probably this is his natural range as a tenor. The sound is often thin or high pitched because maybe he sings with higher larynx, maybe because he's more comfortable, maybe for an artistic choice. The sound is this way thinner but sweeter and soft. Otherwise he should shout and i think now he's approaching a more beatlesque way of singing. Singing style changes through the years, an artist experiment new ways of playing his instrument. The voice is also bound to your body but if he wasn't very skilled i can assure you that he would be like Axel rose nowadays. For those complaining about Graffitia: it's great, he sounds awesome for a living room performance, he's not standing while playing and this makes it harder for a singer. On live he can be sometimes off key with some notes, he can have a bad day but also Freddie mercury had them. We're human not robots
