It can be live singing, or a tour of his house, or an introduction of his dogs, or messing with his sons or Adrienne. Just something more personal.  NFM has been wonderful, but I think it’s run it’s course. And I would really like to see something in which he connects with the fans more.

for me, its cool to see the dogs and stuff here and there and the occasional glimpse into the private life.. but id much rather have cool songs than lame videos. i can connect just fine through that. let him keep his personal spaces.

Personal connection with fans is important to me, and that has definitely decreased. Probably because he’s busy recording. And I’ve really enjoyed NFM. But for me, and of course this is opinion, the songs are starting to sound the same. Because they are very similar for the last few. If he does continue, I hope he goes in a different direction as far as songs he chooses to cover.

I agree that the songs could be more varied. I enjoy them, but I’d prefer if he chose different genres or played with the sound a little like at the Longshot EPs. I guess he’s sticking to power pop so he can make a coherent album out of it. However, over the course of NFM I caught myself thinking I’m glad that he lets the art speak for itself. I enjoyed FOAM, but if something cooled the excitement for me it was the band appearing listless most of the time, so I don’t really miss this personal aspect.

Billie Joe solo records could come out on odd years, and Green Day on even years.   Most of theirs have been even years so let's just set that in stone.

Given how poorly FOAM sold, I don't see a solo covers album doing well.

Completely different thing. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. There would be a major curiosity factor, and a familiarity and comfort with a lot of the songs.

Also, FOAM was unpopular from the first single because it was a very different sound, and some might argue the sound didn’t work for them. Also the image they projected was off-putting. NFM has been very well received from the beginning and people are clamoring for all of the songs to be on streaming. Also, it all seems very natural and not forced.

Exactly. It’s feelgood familiar songs from a well-known musician who’s never released a high profile solo album, so it would likely get some interest just because of that. ITWAN is doing good on the charts too.

I would says it speaks volumes about the way they communicated the FOAM release that NFM is getting an overall more positive reaction because the band and their marketing team all keep their mouths shut.

To be honest, it wouldn’t surprise me if FOAM was their last album, and Hella Mega is their big goodbye, riding off into the sunset. 
 

I don’t ‘think’ it will be their last album (I’m pretty sure they said they are making new music already) but even as a huge fan, I would be happy with this! They are approaching their 50’s, and Billie seems to be in a good place at home.. so as long as Billie keeps doing solo stuff, or the odd side projects, I will be satisfied. This could be a great opportunity for them to go out on top if they announce their retirement on this tour.

As a huge fan, I would honestly be happy with this! They are approaching their 50’s, and as long as Billie keeps doing solo stuff, or the odd side projects, I will be satisfied. This could be a great opportunity for them to go out on top if they announce their retirement on this tour.
