I know, my stepbrother is stuck in Italy right now with his girlfriend. We Skype every day. It's not that big a deal lol. He's gonna take the next plane to Canada and we're gonna have a nice diner and everything will be fine.

As far as I know you can't leave the country until the 3rd April. And most of other countries say if you're returning from Italy you have to stay in quarantine for 15 days.

This is fucking scary

If more than a few European dates get cancelled I can't see the tour going ahead. Hella Mega has actually done me a favour because for the first time ever I've only bought tickets to one show :P

I'm actually more sick of hearing "CoRoNaViRuS iS jUsT a CoLd" than I am of the scaremongering at this point. People don't really believe or care if it's "just a cold." They just know they'll recover and think protecting old or sick people is inconvenient, so everyone is having to deal with lockdowns.

I agree. I thought people were exaggerating at first too, but I changed my mind a couple of days ago. Italy is bad and things are spinning out of control here in Germany and in other countries too. I just cancelled my trip to the UK for a The Who show this weekend because it just wouldn't be the right thing to do right now. What I don't understand is that the promotor or government hasn't cancelled it yet because it's a big event with ten thousands of people in a closed arena, the UK still seems to be very hesitant (like Germany was a couple of days ago but things have changed very quickly). Hella Mega is not going to happen. And no, I'm not running around in panic and not buying toilet paper either. There's a difference between legitimate precaution and blind hysteria, but this situation right now is serious.

"Don't worry unless you're 80!"
Well, italian doctors said that you can find also 18/20/30 year-old-guy in intensive units care with bad pneumonia. Okay, if you're young and health your body reacts in a different way but why I have to risk? Being intubated doesn't look fun.

My mum is mad because my nonna this morning went out to buy a couple of things and she said "I'm feeling good, I haven't got flu. Why I can't go out?" lol

Tour is still two and half months away. Those bands who cancelled their tour (Pearl Jam, Santana etc.) were starting their tour in March, in a few days. The situation right now isn't good at all, but I'm still trying to be optimistic about European tour.

Here's a one list of bands and artists who have cancelled or postponed their gigs or tours. All of those were taking a place in February or March and couple in April. Some of them were cancelled just a few days before.

The situation with the virus in China is going to better direction at the moment. Yesterday there was only 19 new knwon infection cases.

I really hope that it's going to get better in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully those strict quarantines and limitations are starting to show some positive results soon.

I'm just sick of the mass hysteria ( :shifty: ). I think it's clear that this is something that should be treated seriously. But I think people need to calm the hell down. If you are at high risk, yes absolutely do what you have to to protect yourself. If you're not at high risk, still be cautious and do the things you're supposed to do to stay healthy anyway, like washing your damn hands. Bottom line, everyone stay safe! I just hate hearing about every event being canceled, stores running out of supplies, and the news acting like everyone should just stayed locked up in their homes.

I'm really baffled by how careless the UK is being. People stopped flying to China and South Korea and most events there have been cancelled, yet there were no restrictions on flights to/from Italy. Heathrow Airport hasn't even been temperature checking. We'll end up in lockdown soon. I get that the government didn't want to encourage hysteria, but the way they've handled it is only going to make things worse.

Yeah, to be honest I don't want it either! Swine flu was bad enough so I don't want to know what this is like. Young and healthy people developing complications is rare but it is still happening.

I get that it's inconvenient, I really do. I can't really go anywhere, let alone do my job (because I come into contact with so many people as a photographer) in case I bring germs home to my mum. I can't see my partner either because they can't risk flying right now. There are lots of events I'd love to attend (including Green Day in Asia :() but I can't. Most of the things I usually buy are unavailable. It's incredibly frustrating, but then the sooner we all take precautions, the sooner this will be over.

The cases maybe going down in China but the reality is when it started there it was contained to just one country we are now talking about about many different governments, healthcare systems, reactions etc all over the world. The chances of this slowing down in Europe anytime soon are slim at best.

PS: those regions in Northern Italy that are now risking to collapse have one of the best healthcare systems in the world, with some the highest hospital beds and acute care units per 100k people numbers, if you think this is about Italy you are sadly wrong.

Ignore him.

Temperature checks are pretty useless with COVID-19. There is a two week incubation period where people can be completely asymptomatic so checking temps at airports is pointless...though I do agree the UK is being pretty relaxed about it which is worrying considering they have just had their highest increase in cases in one day. Ireland is the same at the moment not testing people who havent travelled from certain areas i.e China or italy which is ridiculous as weve already had 4 community cases (ones which havent travelled and have had no known contact with already diagnosed patients). This is what makes it way more on a knife edge than China we now have multiple countries doing different things which clearly isint working

That's the rule here at the moment.
There's also a social campaign "I stay at home". You can go out for just essential things. 5 people were reported today in my town because they were at the gym.
The mayor has also closed the cementery and decided to avoid the open air market (thanks god)
Yesterday in Codogno - which is the town where the italian patient 0 was found  and one of the first places from the red zone -  the number of cases was zero.
Because everything is locked down.

That's the point. Some italians just don't understand that if we stay at home until the 3rd the situation will change.
If we keep living our "normal life" and not giving a fuck, we will go on forever.

Lighter topic.
My brother works in a restaurant which closed today. He went to collect his things and he came back with this

Fair point. I guess I'm more talking about the states and the fear mongering in the media about the virus. It just really bothers me. Of course if this is a rule, I would hope people would do their best to follow it. I guess I'm just trying to be cautious, but not freak the fuck out. There's so much happening in my life I don't need something else to increase my anxiety. I just think it's important that if you're not at high risk, if you're not in a place that's been on lockdown, to be careful but keep living your life as best as you can, if that makes sense.

But on a serious note, the university I work for sent out an email today stating "it's not if but when" campus is closed, all classes are delivered via online and staff will be working remotely for at least 2 weeks. My university is currently on spring break (the students anyway), so I'm not expecting any change for me until Monday, at least. Also, the World Health Organization just declared this a pandemic.

I do think the U.S tour could be going on, after all, it is within their own country, the traveling is a lot less, the distances and touring time a lot shorter. I guess that could be one of the few things we have to hold on. I doubt it about Europe though.

Here in Mexico and Central/South America everything is fine and for once I'm glad to be on this side of the pond 🥴 Nothing has gotten cancelled, festivals and shows are going as normal and more have been announced but most are American bands so that makes a difference. I really hope it works out for Europe but imma tell you, the difference between the continents IS HUGE.

Great people are going to freak out a whole lot more now.

Everyone, stay safe out there. Wash your hands. And please, try to not let the panic of this whole thing consume you. I know it's tough with the constant news, especially in places that are on lockdown and what not, but stay strong and be well.

H1N1 was a pandemic too. But it's now considerated as a typical seasonal flu. It's gonna be the same for the Covid-19.

Difference is: in 2009 social media wasn't popular so it was more difficult for the media to scare the world.

Very very true. It hit HARD in Mexico (I think one of the most affected countries, if not the most) then and while we did get to stay inside, only a few massive events and shows got cancelled over the span of the most "dangerous" months. It didn't last the whole year, I can assure you, and let me tell you, it was bad. And that is true about social media. Government told what they wanted and there weren't many different opinions we could hear or read from. That is bad already but now everyone can say anything they want and post it online, let's be careful about what we consume.

I'm not either I actually contracted it.

I fainted in the morning from it. Luckily it wasn't so bad after that so I didn't require any hospital visits to be monitored.

If I have certain symptoms that persist for 48 hours I need to be monitored and on IV due to my other issues.

You know, that's actually a great point I hadn't thought of. Social media wasn't as prevalent when swine flu hit. And yeah people were definitely still worried and afraid, but it didn't feel like this mass panic (at least not where I am) that it feels now and that's what bugs me about all this.
