FreeBird
Oh. My. Stars. I LOVE this album. Is it perfect? Nah. Does it have songs that I will probably skip in a few weeks? Sure. But does it *feel* like what I wanted after RevRad? YES. IWATT, MMOTR, Graffitia, all stuck in my head.

stories and songs
Hmm. I really like Junkies on a High (the “watch the world BURN” part is so cool) and Graffitia. But on a whole it sounds like a mix of Youngblood-like songs mixed with some alt-rock band. I’m not a fan of the use of vocal filters, and I still really don’t like the songs chosen for the singles. The second half is definitely stronger than the first half, though.

I can totally picture the band playing on top of a mountain as the last survivors of the apocalypse while the whole world burns down in front of them, very similar to the band of the Titanic that kept playing until the ship sank. Definitely one of my favourite moments on the album. Same! Upon first listen, this was the moment that really stuck out to me and felt very atmospheric. I’m seeing a lot of people not loving this song, but it’s one of the few I love on this album.

ANTI
The album has been on repeat literally all day for me, it's amazing how many details were missed with the vinyl rip. At first, I kinda wrote off Stab You in the Heart for being a little derivative, but the production totally lifts the song up, like the details of the Beatlemania crowd (love the self-aware wink), the lasers sounds and the harmonies at the end, great song to crank out on the highway in my non-existent Ferrari with the windows rolled down. The same is the case with Take the Money and Crawl, I think the cut-off effect of the "craaa-wwl" totally makes the song and Junkies on a High was definitely a highlight since my first listen, I think the gritty yet groovy instrumental complement so well with the omnious lyrics without falling into the overly-dramatic cliché. Also, kinda controversial, but FOA might be my favorite GD album opener ever along with 21CB. My favorites are still Meet Me on the Roof (what a gorgeous song, the quirky contrast between the doo-wop harmonies and the dark lyrics work so well), I was a Teenage Teenager (a review described it as a play on 50's monster movie tropes and I agree, I totally see the lyrics as a tribute to the silly horror punk from groups like Misfits, and for a song called like that, so many people are taking it at face-value) and Grafittia (the fact that they still have it in them to write a song like this in their 13th album... this group, I swear to God...) I'm loving this album so much I'm even growing fond of the album cover and that stupid unicorn, ugly little thing he is 💖
Platypus2000
If the pre-chorus in Graffitia was repeated more I’d like it more, the chorus and sparkly verses don’t really do it for me.

Popular Post Platypus2000
Okay. Here we go. Junkies On A High and Teenage Teenager are only the truly horrific songs. Meet Me On the Roof is a close third worst. I’m not coming round, just accepting this Is all we’re getting. A mix of forcing myself to like it and the fact it’s Green Day, I cant truly hate anything they do. I fucking hate it 😂😂😂😂😂

Train27
Okay... so my Whisky intake is really good... let’s start with “Father of All...” first Billies voice is incredible in this song. The highs and lows and even the mix of both is incredible and gives it a sweet sugar sound. The chorus is incredibly amazing and catchy and his low “ah-ah’s” mixed with his high pitched ones are on point. The bass groove and drums are out of this world. So kudos to Mike and Tre for that shit. ”Fire, Ready, Aim” sorry I really respect their decision to do the whole hockey thing with it but I just see it as a hockey (sports) song. But let’s get down to how it sounds in the album... the lyrics to this song is very deep and I can tell... but there are deeper in this album. I really love the play on the “Ready, Aim, Fire” slogan in the chorus and you cheeky mofos know what I’m talking about. But it sucks that this song is so short... but I get that they just wanted to make a fun album and that’s alright... I love them ”Oh Yeah!” Okay now I get the whole touring with Fall Out Boy thing but I was very, very, VERY ecstatic when I found out they sampled Joan Jett like holy shit... and they did a good job at it. The lyrics about it being about the world in a state that it’s in with phones, YouTube, instagram, ALL SOCIAL MEDIA, I am TOTALLY on board with it. I don’t even have Facebook and I have like 3 followers on Instagram... so the lyrics stood out to me the most on this song... the music makes it even more amazing... sounds very 80’s pop to me and I LOVE IT! Green Day meets that band that does “Take On Me.” I love this song. ”Meet Me On The Roof” HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I love this song! It’s incredible on every level. Billie’s voice!!! The bass line in this song and Tre on those drums killing it! It’s such a good toe tapping song and I really don’t even think they changed their sound THAT much since all we heard were the first three songs... I think they are still Green Day just trying to have fun and make a good album. The little rocking part in the “Bridge” like Rock Lobster up in this bitch. I think they are definitely just losing it in the studio and having fun and I like that... a lot. ”I Was A Teenage Teenager” okay so I love it! The first part of this song grabbed me a lot! And that chorus as rocking as it is, it’s just soothing to hear them still doing what they do. If this was on Dookie I think it still would have made sense... I’m just being honest, please someone agree? Because I want to know if anyone else feels the same. i feel like this whole review is just me fan-boying because I love every song! But I’ll keep going because I’m this far... “Stab You In The Heart” FULL ON GREEN DAY! And not “the fuck time riff...” the CLASSIC ROCK RIFF!! I am in love with it and BILLIE FUCKING KILLING IT IN THIS SONG ON SO MANY LEVELS!! They did so much in 2 minutes and 11 seconds to make my fucking brain melt! THE LYRICS GAHHHH!!! ”Sugar Youth” okay... so how do I say this... I really think the verse is just so weird but I like it... but that “high school loser” part got me. I don’t think this one stuck out to me as the rest did but I still bop my head when I listen to this! ”Junkies On A High” EVER ELEMENT OF THIS SONG IS LEGENDARY! The sound is just giving me a fucking hard on in my heart (a heart on if you will) Billie got deep with this one and it’s making me scared but I’ll just pretend like he’s not leaving us anytime soon... when “Burn” comes in its like a punch right to the face that I would love to take any day of the week... the kool aid part is still a mystery to me... maybe they’d drink that when they get high and this song really has a futuristic song... that futuristic bass slide is like making me think they are aliens haha. ”Take The Money And Crawl” let’s be honest western sound to rock really fucking works! I love how the guitar matches Billies voice! That cra-a-awl part sounds AMAZING to me! But let’s be honest his “fuck”’s part in this song is AMAZING! But let’s be honest here... as fans... “so you can take a walk or you can suck my cock.” Billie be fucking straight to the core and dirty as all hell... and it’s kind of nice to hear him be in everyone’s face since Nimrod (IMO DONT HATE ME) I’ve never heard him say “suck my cock...” ”Grafittia” my favorite song... once again I get the Fall Out Boy thing but also this sounds very Green Day-esque. But what sticks out the most is the part right after the chorus? It sounds so soothing to listen to and is a perfect part to kick right back into the verse. His voice with that effect works so well... the piano that comes in in the second post-chorus? And kicks back in the chorus with that guitar effect sounds so good and once again Mike is killing it and Tre is doing his fucking thing and I love it. The fade out is perfect for the end of this album. The album ended so perfectly with this song. All in all 9/10 for me...
dannygreen
Fine album, if fun is the purpose they achieved it The only songs that really work for me are graffitia and sugar Meet me, junkie and take are funny but nothing more I understand what they did and happy they did it but I don't like it for the most Hope in the future they will set the bar higher and give people something deeper

paperlanterns22
I love the the little things I’m catching in these songs! Like that little sound (guitar maybe?) at the very end of Graffitia as it’s fading out (with 9 seconds left).

The Grohl
Third listen and I love this album! It's just fun, refreshing, and different for Green Day. I was dancing the whole time I was listening to it! It's not a masterpiece, but it doesn't need to be. It's a good fucking time and I'm here for it!

Lenny
I'm not happy with how the Green Day Store execution has gone No vinyl on the day of. I made the order in like September and you ship it the night before? Wouldn't you just be better off getting it a day early? The album leaked anyways. But whatever, it happens with physical goods right? Where in the world is my download link?

Several people pre-ordered this when it first went up...why aren't people getting it day of? And why are people getting the wrong items? And their customer service is pretty terrible. Even though I was lucky enough to receive mine, it was a hassle getting any answers about my other order via their support lines.

In the end they'll make it right for you cause I had an issue during Rev Rad. This is why I continue to buy from them. If there's an issue they just send a new one no questions asked. It does take up to 6 weeks but it's no hassle.
