Clockwise
2 hours ago, Christian's Inferno! said: I think something can be a fun party album while still being very dark. Dos and Stop Drop & Roll both have dark qualities to them. Songs like Lazy Bones and Amy really show that dark side of partying. Even Ashley does this, especially in verse 2 "I taste the cigarettes and liquor on your breath We used to call it speed, but now it's crystal meth Back when I loved you, but you're scaring me to death This careless memory, and now I could care less" Whereas on SD&R, 27th Ave. Shuffle is the most notable song as it deals with issues of alcohol/drugs and depression/suicide. I think that song is very well written. While FOAMF is not an album I enjoy for the most part, I think all of these "party" albums that they do are supposed to be dark and act as a sort of warning about what this kind of lifestyle can result in. Yes, which is why calling them "party albums" is an oversimiplification imo.

I mean, I really wouldn't call any of the songs party songs, there's a darkness underneath all of them that I think elevates them beyond that. The only song that might fit that description is Meet Me on the Roof? I also wouldn’t call FOAM a fun party album, mostly because there is no consistent theme, or direction, or even tone. If I had to stretch, maybe decadence?
Popular Post Saviour
It certainly makes me want to hit the bottle when I hear it, but not because it’s a party album. 2
Saviour
Having heard absolute banger Dilemma I’ve started to reappraise FOAMF. I now think it’s even worse than I ever did. Edited December 8, 2023 by Saviour

Then you listen to something like Dilemma and it’s like THEY MOST CERTAINLY STILL GOT IT, so WHAT WAS THAT FOAM NONSENSE. 😅 More generously, perhaps we can thank FOAM for preparing them to make Saviors lol.

That’s how I felt comparing FOAM to The Longshot. If he could write songs like Chasing A Ghost, Cult Hero and Turn Me Loose still, why are they releasing FOAM under Green Day instead of this? 3

Absolutely. FOAMF has probably one, two at a stretch acceptable songs on it and even then they're WAAAAY down the list of songs in their entire discography. Sorry, but the rest is just garbage and if it wasn't Green Day we'd all think the same. Title? Terrible. Production? Horrible. The artwork? Unforgivable. Then you get utterly woeful nonsense like Here Comes The Shock and I'm going "these guys are finished, they've properly lost it" Then they drop the Saviors singles. Maybe they just needed to get something middle aged out of their system, but I can't say I'm not annoyed about having to experience it. 😆 4
stories and songs
I’ll never forget my friend (who is a very casual fan) texting me right after this album dropped saying, “Yeah sorry, they phoned it in on this one.” I know they always care about their output, but when you compare that entire album to these three new songs, you can just tell that a certain fire and passion and drive has returned to them that was missing from FOAM.
Thatsername
The whole FOAM era felt so wrong and out of character, not only musically, but also the way they talked and behaved in interviews etc. I still can't help but think that FOAM was some kind of a joke or a big "f*ck you" to whomever, we don't know what was going on behind the scenes back then. All I know is that I'm so happy that this era is over and that our boys are back😄
Yosuke Hanamura
I never realized just how much I appreciated this era until I listened to "Father of All..." and "The American Dream Is Killing Me" back to back. That feeling of bewilderment when I heard "Father of All..." for the first time just crept back. Mind you, I'm someone who will defend this album, but I just wanted to cry to the heavens when I heard American Dream afterwards.
Spike
I was firmly in the anti-FOAM camp since it first came out, I didn't like a single thing about it other than Graffitia being quite good. But I recently went back and listened to it for the first time in a couple of years and was shocked to find I actually really enjoyed it. Sure, it's by no means a masterpiece. But it's high energy and a lot of fun, even if it is nonsensical and baffling. Take The Money And Crawl sucks, but other than that it's just dumb fun. Definitely significantly better than Dos, if nothing else. I think the fact it's a Green Day album is to its detriment, because it will always be compared to Dookie and American Idiot, which of course it'll never stand up to. Still I'm very glad they're back to their best now, the three new singles are exactly what we all want to hear and I get why this album was panned so much.
That Dude
The word "party" is not mentioned at all on Father of All. Uno - has one party. Dos - has two parties. Holy Toledo - has three parties. Rock N Roll All Nite - 13 parties. Will Saviors have any Party at all? I don't think so. All your anti-party rhetoric has scared the poor boys. Now all they can do is fake party for a music video. Your obsession is the band's dilemma. Haha

I’m on the fence, he didn’t have to be such a yes man but also the band are his customer and he’s responsible for delivering what they want. I like when he name dropped Trex, ELO and other like bands but not sure I’m hearing the sounds they captured from that. I think if that was executed better it could have been a better record. He didn’t mention what happened after FOAM because from my understanding he was ready to work on the 1972 project or maybe I’m confused and that was The Network? I wonder if our feedback about the album led the band to go in a different direction.

I quite enjoy the trilogy, always have, and I remember how much shit it got from fans when it came out. Then once FOAM came out I was like "Oh shitttttttt..........I bet all the trilogy haters are gonna be eating their words now, cause now this truly IS awful" LOL I guess that's what makes the world go round.......we all have different tastes. 🙂
Flashback
What still shocks me about the FOAM era is, that they used Billie - someone who is struggeling with alcohol addiction for decades - to play beer pong with Post Malone just for promotion. I mean, shouldn't the management also try to protect the musicians and not just look for possibilities to earn money?

The music industry has never protected musicians with regards to substances, they’ve provided and encouraged it as part of the lifestyle and to endure the demands of touring etc. But I don’t know if I would call the Post Malone thing promotion, you have to give Billie some responsibility for his choices there. There’s no evidence he was “used” in any way. Personally I put greater responsibility on management and label for the use of cocaine imagery in their advertising.
J-Rem
In a recent interview about Dilemma he talked about being 17 months sober currently which means he was using or drinking again post Revrad and I fully believe now that FOAM was a relapse album and influenced by his state at the time. Popular Post JardyOfSuburbia
Happy 4th, motherfuckers! Father of All Motherfuckers was released four years ago today! I will always appreciate Green Day for pushing boundaries and zigging when everyone expects them to zag. I know this was a polarizing album for the fan base, but I always look for the good in everything and there are some bangers on here. My top 3: - Sugar Youth - Graffitia - Father of All… (you know you love singing that falsetto!) Give this a spin today! You know you’ve got 26 minutes and 12 seconds of free time today! 🦄 🤮 🤘 5
The Grohl
What a wild, wild time to be in the Green Day fandom. The FOAM era was certainly...memorable. But hey, I at least had a good time. I still hold that it has some bangers on there: TTMAC, MMOTR, Sugar Youth. At places it's a really fun album, others it's just questionable. No it doesn't have the best songwriting and the album is dreadfully short, but I still enjoy it. If anything I like that Green Day just went for it. And I like that when the look back at it now, they have no regrets. I appreciate them acknowledging its divisiveness, but I like that they're not backtracking or putting it down.
Little Boy Named Booze
Wow 4 years already. 26 minutes long... that's nothing. I haven't been revisiting this album since 2021. It's been a long time.
