Father of all Motherfuckers - What are your thoughts on the new album?

I took some time away from the album.

My detours were Eminem, other Green Day records, Scars on Broadway and my own recordings.

Now I'm back and the album hasn't lost any of it's charm; It's still a fun listen and I even give my least favorites spins.   After playing Sugar Youth at least twice of course.

At home now, blasting ZZ Top and about to go on the prowl for new music to listen to.

I agree with most of what you are saying, but this album and it's terrible marketing is getting absolutely butchered by the general public to the point where even I don't understand why people hate it so much.

The Trilogy had it's fair share of haters, so did RevRad (for some reason I still don't understand) but I have NEVER seen as many people hate a GD record as I have with this one, so yeah, I think they notice there's something slightly off 😂.

True, I have looked past it  I guess a part of it is the cringy promo and another is the fact that the album sounds different than what people are used to, but yeah you’re right - I can’t dispute with that.

This is probably going to sound technical and boring but it also feels like the vocal mix is being interpreted as poppy because of the glossy layered sound - I think those are actually 60’s effects that just happen to resemble modern pop sounds. It sounds like there’s an ADT on his voice in all the songs, which was an effect George Martin & The Beatles invented because John Lennon hated doubling his voice. It basically took the single vocal track and created fake doubles by playing the original vocal at a slightly different but randomized speed and pitch at the same time. Listen to Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds and you’ll for sure hear the FOAM vocal sound. It almost feels like a totally different album when ya start finding these little Easter eggs

George Martin did a lot of stuff with the vocals when producing The Beatles. I know Butch Vig has studied a lot of similar techniques which he used on Nevermind. He actually used that John Lennon thing you mentioned in his argument with Kurt to get him to buy into the vision.

I wish I had the technical knowledge to appreciate these little details because just reading about that is very cool

I am super loving Sugar Youth. It's my favorite FOAM song right now. Such an awesome track! It came on while I was driving the other day and I replayed it because I just really needed to hear it again. I'm sad that it's so short. I'm pretty sure the "and it's dangerous" line is the exact same tune as "and she's dangerous" from She's A Rebel which is kinda cool and funny because it's just one word different.

Went from "she" to "it" because he doesn't want to be a Romeo.

He wants to do yeyo.

I was a session drummer on Magnum Opus. Never had the chance to get to meet the band.

It's more like a hooker. Get in and get out. Except I get paid.

Things I absolutely love about Sugar Youth:
- The lyric Like a high school loser that will never ever, ever, ever fuck the prom queen
- Billies voice when he sings All hell is breaking loose and heaven only knooooooows
- The I'm hearing voices up inside my head Oh, what you thinkin'? I need a sugar fix, it's making me sick Oh, what you drinkin'? part
- The sound effect on the yayo and the fact that it's basically just an excuse for Billie to sing HEYOOOH
- Ok every single thing

I can't stress enough how much I love that song. I can't get enough of it.

Mad props for the visual representation of Billie's singing

And the way he sings "Gonna dance/ to something wiiiiiiiilllld"  ❤️

There's just a lighthearted feel to it. I get chaotic vibes from it but at the same time feel peaceful while listening to it. Oxymoronic, sure, but there you go.

I agree! It's a song that that somehow always fits my mood, whatever it may be.

This.

Something that you should never, ever try is to drastically increase the volume while playing it in the car just in the second before BJ says "yayo" [which I have always heard as heyyy ohhh and nothing will convince me otherwise haha] and it will sound like the car's speakers have exploded. :P Gave me a scare!

Quarantine, smocking on the balcony, a desert world in shutdown in front of me, Junkies on a high in my headphones.

Sadly, a terribly appropriate song for these terrible and sad times 13.gif

For me, it starts with Troubled Times on RevRad, then after that when I want to feel slightly less shit about what the world has come to, it's Junkies on a High as I watch the world...

BUUUUURRRRNNNNN!!!

i can’t believe someone who wrote all of nimrod wrote FOAMF. just pisses me off at this point. this midlife crisis has to end. and to only play the hits during hella mega too smh.

Totally agree. FOAMF Just sucks, But to be fair I like four songs of the album, but no so much. What a incredible discography ruined by this "midlife crisis" record as you said. Also the cover of the album man, can't be worse.

The third Roman Empire is yet to come. Except this time it will rise from the place where the most Italian citizens live outside of Italy.
