Father of all Motherfuckers - What are your thoughts on the new album?

After multiple listen, I only dislike the fade out ending of Meet Me On The Roof and Graffitia.

BTW, I'm the only one who didn't heard "pictures" at the start of the 2nd verse of Stab You In The Heart?

I personally don't even care that melodies from non Green Day songs are used, it's when he recycles used Green Day songs that disappoints me, I don't mind when it's older albums, but on the same album multiple times? Yeah that's a little much.

I have said in the past that I'd give it a 7, but I am pretty happy with a final score of 6.
I would have rated this album higher than a 6 if it:

1: Wasn't filled with repetitive melodies.
2: Was a little longer, maybe 3 tracks or so would have done it.
3: Didn't have such god-awful fan insulting cover art, I don't care if it's a troll album or not, there's just no excuse here.
4: Didn't have those stupid pew pew laser sounds on some of the best bangers (This is a Rock 'n' Roll album, I don't wanna hear that shit).

Keep in mind that 6 isn't bad, most of the songs here are quite solid, but to me it's still only slightly above average. When compared to even the trilogy albums this just doesn't cut it musically, and the overall presentation of the album along with its terrible marketing certainly doesn't help give a good impression (Billie, try to at least be somewhat sober next time you are going to announce a freaking album).

I am interested to see what the leftover songs are since they "didn't really fit on the album", from what I understand it's probably going to be an EP right? "Son of the Father of all Motherfuckers" is what I am gonna use as a placeholder name for this.

O...k? The artwork was a joke as they joked about calling it American idiot part 2. It’s a fun silly album, short and snappy . Billie isn’t sober anymore as if 2017 he has said in Q and kerrang. Said he wanted to have fun again. Maybe that’s contributed.

That’s cool you don’t like it, opinions are what makes us humans and not robots.

The reasoning as to why BJ writes depressing songs even when intending to make a "party record" is because... he doesn't wanna freak you out, but he cannot li-i-i-ie

lol ok but we all know he's a notorious liar, full of piss! (and vinegar :ga: )

En EP with 7 (non fit) songs is almost like this LP... it could be longer if they have a suite in that 7 songs

And there are plenty of 7 to 10 songs LPs that are shorter as long as this record.

The fade away part in graffitia is my most favorite.

In preparation for writing a story based on Father of All, I've just discovered what could possibly be a big part of the story arc.

The album is about Billie Joe traveling through time.   That's why the songs sound like they are from different time periods - THEY ARE.   Billie travels to these time periods, records these songs with whatever band he can get together (Mike and Tre help him in the times they exist in.   In 1959 and 1960 he enlisted some mystery musicians of the famous ilk....)

Billie travels first to the 70s, then returns home.  He then goes to the year 3000, all the way back to 1959, takes a detour through 2002., back to the 60s, then to 2004, 2015 and finally 2009, where we leave our time-weary traveler.

Just Billie.  And he's always running into himself as he makes music with Tre and Mike from different time periods.

We also learn that the Network are actually from the past but use Billies powers to go the future and live for a long time before travelling BACK to 2003. They were trying to be normal but were in the wrong decade than they thought.

Oh, and they are related to Green Day.

That new Swmmrs song is good, and I really don't like Emily's Army.

I just can't get into Stab You in the Heart. I feel like it's a good song but it just doesn't interest me. It might just be the done-to-death riff.

It's my least favorite for certain.

Haven't ranked in among other Green Day songs I'm not crazy about, but within FOAM it's the bottom of the party.

Time traveling travelers you mean?

I don't know. English isn't my first language. I just put words in a lot of my post and sometime people are laughing. Sometime they just don't understand a single thing.

They covered People with Fidlar recently I guess, that song is really great but didn't listen to their cover yet. IWATT really could be a SWMRS song and which is cool imo

Have I already mentioned how much I love Graffitia?

So overall, I think it's a really good record with songs I like a lot. And now that I got over the shock of how dark, depressing and even suicidal some of the lyrics are, I can even dance to the songs (after the first few listens, I felt more like crying to be honest because some lyrics are truly shocking).

I'm so glad to see someone else is as deeply in love with Graffitia as I am! I've been keeping the song on repeat in the past week so much that I woke up with it stuck in my head this morning. 😁

Absolutely agree with you on the lyrics too! Your opinions match mine pretty closely. I looooove how dark Junkies is.

I never said I don't like it. The only song I dont like is Oh Yeah and even that was warming on me till they started playing it live and now I hate it again.

I gave the album a 6, 6 being above average which is what 5 would have been.

It's simply just not the quality I have come to expect from the band but that doesn't mean I don't like it. In fact I still don't understand where some of the hatred for the album comes from.

And yes, the art was done as a fuck you to people asking for another American Idiot, that's where the word insult comes in. It was cheap and in no way a creative or even good move, and now the album doesn't even get to have its own identity because of a cheap joke which isn't even funny in my opinion.

The cover is pretty good trolling, but it makes it look like they're not taking it seriously which is a shame considering the album is great. However, it's "we won't play the new songs" that pisses me off.

Someone please tell Billie that it’s not “self indulgent” as long as your fans want to hear them

Yes, please. It's okay if he doesn't want to indulge himself, but he can indulge us. Maybe we do need the petition.

Exactly! They dont give a shit about the album enough to even give it proper cover art so why should I give enough of a shit to think its an overall package worthy of the Green Day name?

It simply isn't imo, it's 90% reused Green Day songs, 50% of which are the same melodies on the same damn album, and on a 10 song album, there just isn't any room for fuck ups.

I said I don't get the hate for the album, and I don't, but I don't know how anyone could regard this as the band's best work, but if that's someone's opinion, good for you I am glad you enjoy it more than the other 12 albums where the band actually gave a shit about what they were doing 😝

If I was to say something negative about this album (that I thoroughly enjoy), it would be that it's derivative and there are reused melodies. That said, Billie has been doing this for years and in a way, the way he keeps working with some of these ideas is pretty cool. He's like a frantic artist painting the same thing over and over trying to get it right and at times, I'd say he accomplished. Sugar Youth is easily the best She's A Rebel he's written :P

True, he's been doing it for years but never to the extent used here. Coming straight from RevRad there is a HUGE difference on the amount of reused vs original melodies. If there were more songs on this album, it certainly would have helped with the situation but theres not, so here we are.
